Preview video: 'Scourge of the Underkind'
At the end of 2020, we reported for the last time about "Scourge of the Underkind", which was actually announced for 2021 and which sees itself as a tribute to games like Gods, Chaos Engine and Alien Breed. On the project's Facebook page, there have been regular reports about the development status over the last year: at the end of September it was reported that the music was finished and the last level was started, while at the beginning of October the game instructions were proofread.

oday, a new preview video was released on YouTube, showing the first 13 minutes of the game, including the loading screen and intro. The authir pointed out that he "was using a bezel in WinUAE and a screen filter which has caused some noise in this video." The game would look much better for real.
There would still be a few small changes made to the game, but basically the finished version would be shown.

Additionally, an other video shows how the intro screen was drawn, with Scourge's music. (dr)

Video documentary on Trackers: 'The Sound of 16-Bit'
Stuart Brow regularly posts documentary-style videos on his YouTube channel Ahoy about video games and their impact on culture. As a one-man team, he is responsible for all aspects of production: script, graphics, voiceover, gameplay recording, editing, and music.

In his last video documentary he takes the audience back to around 1984 - the dawn of 16-bit computing, and the emergence of a new style of computer music. And he also wrote:
"Ever since I did 'A Brief History of Graphics', I wanted to do a similar treatment for sound & music - but rather than attempt to cover everything in a single video, I thought it would be better to focus on a single topic. This time it's trackers - a format dear to me as it was my introduction to computer music."

And so his tracker time travel touches among other things also the Amiga programs "The Ultimate Soundtracker", "OctaMED Soundstudio" or "Digibooster".

Whereas he had previously financed his productions with advertising revenue, he now relies entirely on his audience and is happy to receive financial support on his Patreon page. (dr)

FS-UAE Webseite

Emulation: FS-UAE & Launcher 3.1.66 for Windows
Frode Solheim's Amiga emulator FS-UAE makes the innovations from WinUAE available in a platform-independent UAE variant for Windows, Mac OS X and numerous Linux or BSD variants. The "FS-UAE Launcher" is responsible for the configuration and the start of the Amiga emulator. The maintenance update of the 3.1.x series already released in December for Windows (possibly the last one) contains the updated SDL version 2.0.18 as well as updated controller mappings. (dr)

Amiga emulator for MacOS: vAmiga 1.1 Beta 7
Dirk Hoffmann has released a new beta version of his Amiga emulator for macOS which is currently under development. The changes of beta version 7 are as follows:
  • Features:
    • Added support for remote connections. Three remote servers have been implemented:
      • A serial port server emulating a null modem cable on the serial port of the Amiga.
      • A retro shell server that allows the user to connect to retro shell via telnet.
      • An experimental GDB server implementing parts of the GDB serial remote protocol.
  • Compatibility:
    • Writes to DMA pointer registers are sometimes dropped on a real Amiga. The old code for checking if a write has to be dropped didn’t work correctly in all cases.
  • Bug fixes:
    • In the video configuration panel, the color palette couldn’t be changed any more. This has been fixed.
    • OCS detection failed in some scenarios.
    • On startup, some CPU registers were initialised with wrong values.
  • Code quality:
    • The code has been migrated to Cmake and is now compatible with all three major C++ compilers (clang, gcc, msvc).

Thomas Wenzel (ANF)

Audio player: AmigaAMP 3.31 for AmigaOS 3.9 released
Thomas Wenzel wrote: Unfortunately, a piece of old code was left over in 3.30 when the MHI handling was revised. This leftover caused the playback not to recover after a dropout due to briefly high system load (e.g. CVPPC screen switching at very high resolution).
This should now be fixed in 3.31. There are no other changes. The PPC version is not affected and remains at version 3.30 for now. The next update will then carry the version number 3.32 for both architectures. (dr)
