PC-Welt: Transmeta unveiled: Patent for cheap CPU
PC-Welt writes:
The mysterious company Transmeta, having Linux developer Linus Thorvalds on their payroll, has filed a patent for a processor emulating an Intel chip. As US news service CNet reports, it is a combination of CPU and software behaving like a X86 CPU. The software translates Pentium commands in a way that the chip can parse them.
The Patent is available online. (ps)

COOL bits Newsticker
Martin Strobl writes:
- first, despite the latest news from America (Gateway, Amiga Inc., Collas, etc.) we will of course continue to support the Amiga :-)). If our business can remain "Amiga only" (well, and a little bit Casablanca :-) ), is very uncertain currently, however :-(. No matter what might be our new business, it won't be PC :-)))).
All in all, I think the future for the Amiga (or whatever it will be called) lies in the PowerPC (603/604 - G3/G4). I don't believe anything usable will come from Amiga Inc. any more :-(. I'd like to be convinced otherwise.
I recommend all Amiga users join the PPC movement, or at least wait until the Amiga show (Home Electronics World) in November before deciding to change platforms.
- our homepage is undergoing a complete restructuring right now, so there are no updates for now. I home the new homepage to be online in about two weeks.
I'm on holiday this week, and won't be answering emails before it's over. Our shop remains open, of course :-) (ps)

Screens

Screens: Now more than ever
Due to the unfortunate decissions of Gateway, the Screens development team will work harder than ever for this project (Amiga PPC operating system) to become reality. A beta version is not yet available, but it's worked upon. (ps)

Camouflage

Latest info about CamX/Camouflage project
Amiga development has been put on hold, sadly. We no longer sell to customers. The decission of Gateway / Amiga Inc. has been accepted with great regret - really disappointing. CamX will be developed for BeOS and Linux - with unclear priorities so far. Registered Amiga / Camouflage users can cross-update. (ps)

EasyPlayer
"EasyPlayer" is a configurable GUI for all shell based music players. Be it "mpega", "SIDPLAY" or "GMPlay" or any recently released shell-based player - with "EasyPlayer", you get a unified interface with playlist (load, save, append, shuffle...) and all eytras. It's a totally free software ("open source" style).
You will be able to get EasyPlayer form Aminet soon, or at the title link. (ps)

Eyelight development
Jochen Abitz writes:
Mage for AmigaPPC has been canceled. :(
Eyelight has released a demo of Gamma on their website: www.eyelight-it.com. The development has been put on hold, and will only be continued if 500 people preorder Gamma.
Here's the original text from the demo:
Gamedemo for CGX3Drave, (c)1999 Eyelight
This is a rather old "game-like" demo for CGX3Drave that showed off the basics of Gamma, the 3D games construction kit from Eyelight. It requires a CVPPC since the software engine we developed for CGX3D rave is not available to the public.
Being completly unoptimized and running on 68K only, it still shows off nicely what could have been possible with Gamma. Source code (in C but is actually a direct translation from Golem, Eyelight's scripting language used in Tornado3D) that creates the whole game is provided. As you can see it is rather simple, and the scripting environment made Gamma easy to use even for people with no 3D graphics programming experience.
Unfortunately Gamma has been canceled for the Amiga, due to the many shakes the market suffered. If there is enough interest and at least 500 Amigans pre-order Gamma for as low as 50.00 EURO/ US Dollars, we'll still produce it both in 68K and PPC versions.
(ps)

Version Watch: We'll be back!
The Amiga Version Watch, which has recently been put on hold, will be continued. The software, which automatically offers the versions of numerous programs as a website, will be reworked and improved by Martin Baute and Lucas von Stockhausen as project within their studies. We will report as soon as the Version Watch returns to functionality. (ps)
