Jump'n Run: Trap Runner
After Solid Gold, "Trap Runner" (Video) is the second game which the brothers Frank and Gerrit Wille has released. Again it is a Jump'n Run, this time based on the classic game Mario Brothers. Trap Runner offers 5 different worlds each with 4 and one bonus level, a boss at the end of the level as well as some hidden levels.

The player can jump and run but also duck and can activate special skills by collecting pills or magic potion. Besides there are many items to be collected for improving health, getting an extra life or finishing the level.

Trap Runner runs on each Amiga with at least one Megabyte RAM. The game has been developed over seven months and released last weekend at the Function party in Budapest. It is considered to release a commercial collector edition if there is sufficient interest. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Logos (Kommentar) AmigaOS 4: Enhancer Software 1.4 available
Version 1.4 of the AmigaOS-4.1 "Enhancer Software" (amiga-news.de reported) has been released. New features are a network driver for the AmigaOne models X5000 (written by Mark Olsen by the MorphOS team supported by Frank Mariaks) and A1222, a new SSH2-Handler as well as updates of e.g. Warp3D Nova and OpenGLES 2, MultiViewer, the sound datatypes, X-Dock and the updater tool itself. The English and German editions of Amiga Future 134 (September/October 2018) have been released today, they can be ordered from Amiga dealers or directly from the editorial office. This issue's topics include reviews of the 2017 edition of the processor card A3640, of the case Checkmate A1500 Plus and of the emulator WinUAE 4.0.1.

31.Aug.2018 A1200: Triple LED Adapter on Amigakit
On Amigakit a A1200 Triple LED adapter is available which can be used as replacement for the original component in the Amiga 1200. While purchasing it you can choose a colour for each of the three LEDs as well as for the replacement LED (red, green, yellow). The web browser Netsurf - and also Chris Young's Reaction-based Amiga port - is available in version 3.8. The (cross-platform) changes "feature some page layout improvements, stability and security improvements, and some minor additional features". The port for AmigaOS 4 is available on the official download site. Test builds for AmigaOS 3 are offered separately - but here the support for SSL/TLS is broken. Young asks for your help to fix it.

On request of amiga-news.de Artur Jarosik, who is developing the SDL version for AmigaOS3 (amiga-news.de reported), said that he also is going to release a new version soon. (cg) (Translation: dr)

30.Aug.2018 Free hardware: Replica of daughter board of A4000
Recently two projects were dealing with the replica of the mainboard of the Amiga 4000. Now documents are available on Github which provide all information for the self-construction of the daughter board carrying the Zorro slots.

The board layout was "made from ground using the A4000 original schematics". Compared to the original the replica has not any ISA slots but a VGA connector "to use with a VGA metal bracket". (cg) (Translation: dr)

Issues 11 to 26 were digitally scanned. All other editions are very high quality PDFs. Issue 11, way back in 1998, was the first German Amiga Future issue ever released. Issue 67, July/August 2007 was the first English edition of the Amiga Future magazine. So, our complete 20 years German Amiga Future story is available on this single DVD.

The Checkmate A1500 is a case for the Amiga 500 which transforms it into a desktop computer similar to the Amiga 2000 (amiga-news.de reported; a video about the historical backgrounds have been released two months ago). Stephen Jones has announced the crowdfunding of an updated edition of his product - on Tuesday 9 pm there will be a "launch party via live stream.

Besides the board of the Amiga 500/500+, the Checkmate-1500-Plus case will be also able to take an Amiga 600 or 1200 - or A-EON Technology's announced AmigaOne A1222 (Tabor), a Raspberry Pi or any other mainboard of the mini or micro-ATX format. Jump'n Run: Commercial edition of "Zerosphere" (Update)
In "Zerosphere" (Youtube video) the environment of the player is displayed distorted. Only if the player "blinks" briefly the real dimensionen can be recognized. The German publisher poly.play now offers the game which three years ago was released as Freeware in two different commercial editions.

The Collector's Edition will be provided in a box and includes diverse gimmicks like an A3 poster or a "Squinty-Jo-Jo" piece. The Budget Edition only includes the game (on disk) and the 16-page manual. The poster of the Collector's Edition can be also bought separately for two Euro plus shipping.

Following an enquiry of our editor Daniel Reimann, poly.play told us that this is not the same version that has been released three years ago. Instead the game would have been reworked completely, featuring new levels and elements now as well as the possibility to load further levels that are to be released in the future. Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.6.4 (alpha)
RedPill is a Game Construction Kit written in AmiBlitz2, which can help developing games of diverse genres - published videos show versions of Pacman and Mirror. RedPill is compatible to AGA and ECS, the "player" requires 1 MB Chip as well as some Fast RAM.

For the program currently there is only a closed Facebook group, but the authors also can be contacted via eMail. The latest alpha version can be downloaded using Dropbox.

Changes in version 0.6.4:

Added support for song modules compressed in PowerPacker
Added Fade In and Fade Out action trigggers
Added On Fade Out condition to trigger something when fade is complete
Fixed a graphics glitch at the start of the games
Some fixes in scroll routines
Small changes that could make the game unstable

7-bit: CD32 extension with RAM, IDE and clockport available soon
A year ago 7-bit (e.g. Wicher 500i) presented a working prototype of a CD32 extension. Meanwhile the "WicherCD32" as the project was called has almost completed. WicherCD32 offers a slot for a SIMM72-RAM module, a Gayle-based IDE-controller as well as a clovkport.

Equipped with a 16 MB RAM module (modules with 50 and 60 ns were tested), the CD32 then has 11.5 MB Fast-RAM - due to the memory map of the CD32 in combination with the 68EC020 processor this is the maximum value. But the Kickstart-ROM can be copied to the Fast-RAM using the MAPROM feature. An Ethernet port can be added on the clockport using 7-bit's SPI MasterBus CP.

The actual price for the WicherCD32 as well as a precise date for the availibilty the producer has not announced yet. (cg) (Translation: dr)

20.Aug.2018 Crowdfunding: Minskies Furball as CD version
The newcomer "BigBox Gaming" is going to offer games in big boxes as it used to be. The games which are delivered on CD are supposed to be compatible with Windows, Mac OS and "the later Amiga systems". The first game is the Tetris clone Minskies Furballs released in 1996.

Obviously the unchanged, 20 years old, original versions are repackaged: The version for Windows is the so far unreleased original MS-DOS game, which runs in the emulator DOSbox. According to BigBox Gaming the game unfortunately does not support joypads - but it was compatible with tools which emulate a keystroke of a joypad. (cg) (Translation: dr)

ReAmiga 1200: Replica of A1200 mainboard published
As announced, on weekend John 'Chucky' Hertell has published the documents of his A1200 mainboard "ReAmiga 1200" (video of test run). It is a clone of the revision 1D.4 of Commodore's last desktop computer which compared to the original one provides the following improvements:

Supports Round AND Square powerconnector. (round have 2 incoming +5V wires)
New reworked Composite logic, with additional S-Video Support
RF-Modulator removed and replaced with optional VGA Connector that is buffered, Still NO Scnadoubler
PCMCIA Reset fix so cardreset software is not needed
Resetheader
A500 Compatible Keyboard connector (actually not tested yet)
Extra powerconnectors for +12 and +5V fans. also extra powerconnector close to CPU slot to add power or fans.
Selectable SEL signals for floppy, you need to cut the traces and solder in a connector to select
Optional NMI (IRQ7) Possability
Support for the Ratteswitch with solderoles for required signals so no need of a socket on CIA
Optional onboard leds where LED and +5V are separated also optional “opt” led, with jumperwire for pcmcia activityled

All documents which are required for a production are available on Hertell's blog. Additionally there is also the unchanged replica of Commodore's revision 1D.4 which matches the original mainboard and therefore requires Commodore's jumpewire. This version so far has not been tested.

Hertell sells blank ReAmiga-1200 boards for about 60 Euro (5 Euro of this sum are donated to the Swedish children cancer fond) plus shipping. Hertell cannot help providing components because his project mainly is meant for repairing damaged Amiga 1200 computers.

R1200: Replica of A1200 motherboards almost completed
Since June John 'Chucky' Hertell, who already recreated Commmodore's processor board A3640, has been working on a replica of the Amiga-1200 motherboard of revision 1D4 which he named "R1200". Hertell will sell some of the self produced boards - but all documents can be downloaded so other users can also produce boards.

In the first process of priduction a working board without too many modifikations will be made:

instead of a RF modulator a VGA port (15 Khz) is available
one additional S-Video port
PCMCIA-Reset-Fix
Power ports for fans or the like next to the IDE port and to the expension port
A500 compatible keyboard port next to the Joystick port

30 of those boards already have been ordered. Documents for this version as well as for an unchanged A1200 motherboard are supposed to be published on Sunday.

Hertell does not exclude the possibility of reworking the design but first will change from the current board designer "Sprint Layout" to a more appropriate program like Eagle or KiCad. (cg) (Translation: dr)

MorphOS: E-Mail client Iris, beta version 36
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek's "Iris" is supposed to become the standard mail program for MorphOS. It supports IMAP and can read and create HTML mails. The program requires MorphOS 3.10. You can give feedback to the author using the corresponding discussion on Morphzone.

Andreas Magerl (ANF) APC&TCP and Amiga Future at Gamescom (August 22 to 25, Cologne)
Press release: APC&TCP and Amiga Future will once again have a booth at at Gamescom this year. On more than 70 m² we will be exhibiting about 20 Amiga models, hoping to win over some new users for our hobby. Around a dozen users, all volunteers, will be manning the booth and answer questions about the Amiga. Just in time for Gamescom, the Amiga Future Archive 4 DVD will be available to buy directly from us at the show.

You will find us in hall 10.2 in the retro area. Of course, we will keep you up to date on Gamescom via the Amiga Future Facebook and Instagram pages. There will certainly be many interesting photos from the event yet again. As we will be quite busy at Gamescom, the Amiga Future News page will only get updated regularly after we get back from Gamescom.

Of course, you can still leave your orders in our online shop, but we will only be dispatching them after the 28th of August (the same applies to online goods). Sonnet.library: Network card as PowerPC accelerator board
The SonnetAmiga project makes it possible to use PowerPC-based PCI cards as accelerator board for WarpOS programs in the Amiga by means of a mediator board (amiga-news.de reported). The Sonnet Crescendo 7200 included, already five PCI cards are supported:

Apocalypse G4 7410@450 MHz with 256 MB

Last mentioned card has few memory but with about 30 Euro should be the cheapest PowerPC extension for the Amiga. Actually it is a network card and its Network Processing Unit (NPU) is a PowerPC processor - a MPC8343E. It is said that the game Quake would run twice as fast as on a CyberStorm PPC.

Ragnarok is not officially supported but according to the SonnetAmiga-Wiki it already is running smoothly. Note that of each of the cards there are different versions and it is not clear if all of them work. Lists of compatible software can be found in the Wiki. (snx) (Translation: dr)

The AGA-A3000: Amiga fans equip boards of the Commodore prototype AA3000
The AA3000 and A3000+ have been further developments of the Amiga-3000 mainboard which for the first time should use the new AGA chipset. Additional to the AGA chipset, the revised board should contain a digital signal processor which was supposed to be used for 16-Bit audio and floating point operations. Altogether only few prototypes were produced before the project was abandoned in favour of the A4000.

In spring 2018 Matthias 'Matze' Heinrichs succeeded in getting five blank AA3000 boards. The boards looked pretty fine and the schematics were included as well. The source codes for the PALs can be found in the Dave Haynie archives - so the idea was born to equip the boards of their own. Both Heinrichs and Christian 'Scrat' Euler have succesfully equipped a board and thus have a working AA3000.

Euler - who points out that Heinrichs did the "pioneer work" and thus made his own project possible - has documented his work and took several pictures. He wrote:

"... so we invested time und used the soldering iron. Matze completed his board a little bit earlier therefore he could give me some hints. It took about two months for assembling and launching my board (including longer breaks), I had to reorder components three times and to steal the delayline of one of my two A3000 boards.

Unfortunately the DSP cannot be bought at reasonable prices any longer so we had to improvise. The Commodore guys used a different RTC component for this board which via I2C bus is connected to the DMAC chip. This feature is not available in any of the DMAC revisions so Matze made an adapter board for a common RTC.

Is it really working?

As I launched it for the first time nothing happened. After a lot of measuring it turned out that the CPU was active for a short time and then sank into a "long sleep". Clocks were active, the chipset produced SYNCs... then I recognised that an IC in the clock section was not properly equipped - instead of a F type, a LS type was installed.

I did exchange the IC, afterwards the CPU worked fine. Then I found out that the EPROMs with the Chucky-DiagROM were broken. New ROMs installed and then at least the Power-LED started flashing. Okay, the CPU lives!

But the screen kept dark...what else could be wrong? Eventually it turned out that the pins on the DAC did not properly got the tin...soldered again, first attempt:

Kickstart-ROMs installed, switched on, worked. Party!

Now CS Mk2 installed, Picasso IV installed, Deneb installed...worked! Starstruck had to be.

What's next...?

Currently the experimental setup is still standing on the table. Some components of the board are still missing...the parallel port and the SCSI port as well. I also have to build the RTC adapter. Afterwards the board will be tested in detail and then integrated into my main A3000. Matze is going to build a new busboard. Currently the daughterboard of the A3000 is used (the one from the A4000 does not fit). Therefore the video output only has 12 Bit RGB. So the AGA looks a little bit strange via the PIV-FliFi."

Scene World Magazine (ANF) Diskmag: Scene World #28 (Update)
Since 2001, 28 issues of the Commodore- and retro magazine "Scene World" have been published as well as 49 issues of the corresponding podcast. So far the magazine itself was only available as diskmag for the C64, but with issue 28 for the first time an Amiga port is available as well.

Scene World #28 provides information about meetings and parties, the fourth part of a "Let's Make a Game" tutorial including a game, an interview with Dennis Pauler (Amiga games developer) and David Pleasance (Commodore UK).

08.Aug.2018 Hyperion added back to Belgium's company register
In October 2017 Hyperion was forcibly removed from Belgium's official company register (KBO, Kruispuntbank van Ondernemingen) for failing to file annual reports for each fiscal year with the 'Central Balance Sheet Office' of the Belgian National Bank. Hyperion has now filed these missing reports, which means they're listed as a regular company again.

According to the reports now filed (PDF: 2015, 2016, 2017), Hyperion's main assets are unidentified "intangible assets" listed with a value of about 110.000 Euro in 2015. Due to write-downs of about 36.000 Euros in every fiscal year, this property will be valued slightly above 1000 Euros at the end of 2018.

The other side of the balance lists debts of nearly 600.000 Euro, of which about 90% are short term loans - "op ten hoogste één jaar", which translates to: "payable within a year". All three reports since Hyperion's temporary bankruptcy in February 2015 show a negative income.

06.Aug.2018 Trevor Dickinson accusing Ben Hermans of criminal behaviour (Update)
In April 2009, a company called A-EON Technology was established in Belgium, to develop PPC hardware for AmigaOS 4. Trevor Dickinson, Anthony Moorley and Ben Hermans were named directors for the new entity. This incarnation of A-EON didn't last long though - a new company called A-EON Technology Ltd. located in Wales took over in Spring 2012 and has been responsible for the "AmigaOne X1000" and other A-EON products ever since. This change was never communicated or explained to the public.

Behind the scenes, rumours started circulating years ago that the Belgium based A-EON was dismantled because one of the partners stole large parts of the company's funds and tried to hide that fact from the other directors by sending them faked bank statements.

An audio recording that has now been released on Youtube, allegedly featuring Trevor Dickinson, seems to confirm at least parts of this rumour: In what sounds like a private conversation, the narrator - his voice is the only one recorded - relates the following:

"[…] Money dissappearing to Hyperion and to Ben Hermans […] I mean, at the very least, you could put him out of business – I mean, with his law firm – cause I got the copies of the stuff he sent… faxed to me […] He was denying, denying, denying – and then it turned on a meeting where we were saying: 'This is it – you either sign this. Or we‘re going to the police'. So, I mean… and so we went through a whole bunch of things: free license, free this, free that, access to this, use of that, no royalties... so we got all out of it."

Parts of the recording have been obviously cut out, these cuts are marked with "[…]" in the above transscript. People who want to verify if the recorded voice really is that of Trevor Dicksinson can find quite some Youtube videos featuring the A-EON investor - like this 2017 speech.

The recording was released to the public by Generation Amiga, a site that has a tendency to publish badly researched, exaggerated or plain wrong news items. But amiga-news.de can confirm that this is not the original source, apparently the site's administrator was less concerned about keeping this under wraps than other parties we know about that also had access to the file.

Notes from the staff:

Assuming the person making these statements is indeed Trevor Dickinson, he's clearly accusing Ben Hermans of criminal behaviour. While the actual details of Hermans' actions are not explained in the part of the recording that has now been made public, Dickinson's wording about "calling the police" or the notion that Hermans could lose his job or his licence for practicing law make this quite clear.

But at the same time, Dickinson is incriminating himself: The statement that Ben Hermans was forced to sign a contract that gives Dickinson and his partners free access to a lot of Hyperion's property and licenses basically equals an admission of blackmailing Mr. Hermans. Not to mention that this contract presumably would mostly hurt the company Hyperion - by obliterating most of their sources of income, for example - while Dickinson's description suggests that only the person Ben Hermans seems to be responsible for A-EON's problems.

Amiga Future has approached both Trevor Dickinson und Ben Hermans for statements. Both parties stress that A-EON is paying the full price for each copy of AmigaOS 4 it ships:

Trevor Dickinson: "A-EON Technology does have a worldwide sub-license granted by Hyperion Entertainment to use the AmigaOne name, AmigaOS name and Boing Ball on products it develops for AmigaOS4. However, A-EON Technology has to make significant payments to Hyperion Entertainment to port AmigaOS4 to the AmigaOne hardware it produces.

This includes payments for porting the kernel, writing any necessary drivers and/or other special utilities that may be required to make OS4 run on A-EON's AmigaOne hardware. As Matthew Leaman wrote on AmigaWorld net, A-EON Technology also pre-pays (in batches) the significant cost of full software licence to Hyperion Entertainment for its AmigaOne machines (X1000, X5000 and the A1222 beta).

Every AmigaOne machine A-EON ships has an AmigaOS4 software license pre-paid to Hyperion Entertainment at the full license price, not the special reduced sales price which Hyperion charged customers for the AmigaOS4 Final Edition release. A-EON is prevented from disclosing the full license price by the terms of its Agreements with Hyperion Entertainment but suffice to say it is far greater that the special one-off AmigaOS4 Final Edition sales price."

WHDLoad: New installers until 04.08.2018
Using WHDLoad, you can install games, scene demos and intros from cracking groups to your harddisk that were only working from floppy disks previously. The following installers have been added until August 4th, 2018:

Helga Hansen (ANF) Replica of Amiga-4000 mainboard: First Boards being delivered
In spring Paul Rezendes started the crowdfunding of a reverse engineering of the Amiga-4000 revision-B mainboard (amiga-news.de reported), the first boards are being shipped to the initiator as some pictures document under the title link.

MorphZone (Webseite) MorphOS: WHDLOpener
WHDLOpener integrates WHDLoad based on E-UAE under MorphOS in its Workbench Ambient. WHDLoad games can be started by clicking the game icon or the its slave file. Under MorphOS, ADF images are mounted and executed using E-UAE.

AmigaOS 3.1 and the corresponding Kickstart-ROM file resp. the 1.3-ROM are required. More details are listed in the news item in the MorphZone.

Scene World Magazine (ANF) Scene World: Video interview with Mike Clarke (Psygnosis)
The composer Mike Clark has worked for Psygnosis and has written some famous soundtracks e.g. for Last Ninja 2 (Amiga) or the SNES port of Lemmings 2. Amiga Future (website) FPGA: Apollo core update Gold 2.10 / SAGA driver 1.4
Apollo core is an FPGA reimplementation of Motorola's m68k series that includes its own graphics called SAGA. The latter is available in version 1.4 now. The core is currently being used by Vampire turboboards 600 V2 and 500 V2(+).

Among other changes, version "Gold 2.10" of the core adds four different IDE speeds (V500) and improves CIA timings (V600). (snx)

MorphZone (forum) MorphOS: Test version of a Javascript JIT compiler for Odyssey
Mark 'bigfoot' Olsen released the test version of a PowerPC JIT compiler for Javascript to be used for Odyssey web browser. There is not much of a speed gain, though, since only the first level of the JIT is active for now. Instead the release is intended to test if there are any cases that do not work with the JIT while working without it. (snx)

Amigaworld.net (Forum) Andy Warhol museum shows Amiga 1000 mockups
Following discovery of 28 then-unknown computer graphics by Andy Warhol on his Amiga floppy disks four years ago (amiga-news.de reported), The Andy Warhol Museum commissioned the design studio Iontank to create an interactive exhibition of these pictures.

At the title link there is a description how they just re-used the cases of Amiga 1000 computers and monitors, utilising emulation instead. (snx)
