AmigaOS 4: New MPlayer port MickJT-MPlayer
Michael Trebilcock has ported the latest version 1.3.0 of the movie player MPlayer to AmigaOS. All Amiga related code was taken from previous ports of afxgroup (Workbench startup code) and LiveForIt (other Amiga related code). By default MickJT-MPlayer reduces the video quality in order to reduce cpu load - you can change that by editing the included configuration file.

A500 accelerator board: Wicher 500i (Ex) supports MP3 decoder Hardware
The accelerator boards of the Wicher 500i series now support MP3 decoder hardware based on the VS1003 chip. The decoder modules have to be bought and connected with the accelerator board with a self-made cable by the users themselves. Tutorials can be found on the product sites of the models Wicher 500i and Wicher 500i Ex.

Commercial games: Playable preview of AlarCity, teaser video of "Worthy"
The developers of Pixelglass have published news for two of their upcoming, commercial games: For AlarCity, which is a top-down-view-shooter for AGA computers, a new demo version is available. The game will be distributed by amiga.net.pl. Additional to the digital download, the sale of disks (with or without a box) and diverse "Gold Editions" is planned as well. The game is supposed to be released in the second quarter of 2018 but already can be paid.

AmigaOS 4: Preferences 1.60
Marko Seppänen's Preferences groups the prefs programs under AmigaOS 4 in six categories. The names of the groups can be localized, the program requires ARexx.

Trademark disputes: Cloanto sued Hyperion in USA
In the dispute about the rights of the trademark "Amiga" (amiga-news.de reported), this month Cloanto, for some years owner of the Commodore and Amiga copyrights, has sued Hyperion in the USA, where in January the company applied for this trademark. Reason for the law-suit is that Hyperion did appeal against this application because in their opinion the registration could cause confusion with their own trademarks "AmigaOS" and "AmigaOne".
According to the statement of claim (PDF file), Cloanto wants to be determined by court that they are the lawful owner of the trademark "Amiga" and that therefore Hyperion is not allowed to apply for trademarks like "AmigaOS" or "AmigaOne". Furthermore the court battle is about the distribution of AmigaOS 1.3 Kickstart ROMs by Hyperion; also the document notes that Hyperion would not have been allowed to market AmigaOS 3.1.
