GFX-BASE: New version of AmiStart and some other news
As reported some time ago within our question & answer session with
Darius Brewka (German version
- English version)
there is a new start menu tool under development. The latest version
offers features no other start menu clone does: Among a freely
configurable surface (transparence, colours, patterns, position, etc.)
the latest version of AmiStart offers a taskbar with an integrated
quicklauch bar, a window manager and several other pluins e. g. a clock
or a transparent RAM display.
This new version will soon be published on Aminet. Everyone who cannot
wait might download it at the GFX-BASE.
News at the GFX-BASE: Our running poll will be finishd this weekend -
make your vote before! Most likely the GFX-BASE forum will be launched
this weekend. From now on there is the possibility to post suggestions
for categories for comments within the forum. (ps) (Translation: ub)

SixK SDL game ports: SDLInvaders 0.6.0 (Update)
SixK offers at the new website 'Amiga Community' ports of
SDL games for download. The SD library allows a
platform independent programming of games and other
multimedia products.
New at the site is the game SDLInvaders 0.6.0, an Amiga port of the
game from
Niels Weber.
The game works fine with both Amithlon and on Amiga with 68040/33 MHz but the latter seems to be quite slow.

Amiga, Inc. / Partners: Eyetech coments on developer board shipping
Eyetech have posted this update on the status of the developer boards on
the AmigaOne mailing list.
Angus (and others)
First, please do not forget that this is a public list and anything published on it gets read by non-A1 enthusiasts, misinterpreted, severely mangled and reposted to the gossip lists almost immediately. This then takes a disproportionate amount of our valuable business time to try to rectify.
We (I) have been open in the past and have learnt lessons the hard way!
Secondly anyone who ordered a developer board - dealer or end user - was subscribed to a closed list under NDA. This allows us all on the list to be very open, even democratic, in the way the boards are shipped and packaged. Several people on this list are on the closed a1g3dev list have boards and
some - but not all - of them have boards. I certainly have not had any adverse feedback from them either in private or public as to how things are
being handled from the dev board perspective.
What I will say is that inevitably some people on the list have far more experience than others when it comes to installing linux. Since the dev group voted to initially standardise on SuSE PPC Linux - and the A1 boards are NOT the same as the Teron CX boards (which run Turbo Linux) - the group decided to let a select few of the real experts to make an easily installable distribution of SuSE Linux PPC and UAE-PPC first.
Given this - and although the remaining dev boards have already been manufactured - it was/is in my view, unfair to ask the remaining, less Linux-centric developers to pay for their dev boards until this SuSE/UAE release is finalised. Progress has been very good and this is expected to take place - without fanfare - shortly.
In parallel with this Hyperion are making good progress with sorting out the OS4 boot process, and the help that they have received form the Linux
experts on the A1G3 dev list has been significant.
Oh yes, and the release by Gentle Eye was strictly speaking outside the A1G3dev list NDA, and I will be having a word with them about this today.
Cheers, Alan

Usenet: "comp.sys.amiga.announce" reactivated
According to the page under the
title link,
the Usenet group "comp.sys.amiga.announce" is active again.
This is an English language, moderated group for announcements from the Amiga
sector. This group is not meant for advertising but rather for product
information without puffing and comments about competing products.
The group has originally been set up by Dan Zerkle in December 1990, who also moderated
it till 1998. Now Brian Edmonds has taken over moderation.
The group's charter and further information are accessible through the title link.

Programming Language: PowerD V0.19 alpha7
On 16th June 2002, Martin Kuchinka published version 0.19 alpha 7 of his
programming language "PowerD".
This version contains an number of bugfixes. A debugger has been added.
The following changes have come into effect since the previous version:
- added a ddbg tool to debug Your sources
- fixed assembler error when EXCEPTDO without Raise() occured in ppc code generator
- fixed eight enforcer hits
- when compiling a library, the library is placed in source's directory
- a bit fixed line statement in error reporting
- prohibited JUMPing to another procedure
- renumbered warnings, now starts with 900
- fixed IF <constant> for ppc
- fixed some structure scanning, added new error messages
- debug file do at last support (not yet finished) debugger :)
- END do now check, if allocation (NEW) was successful
- added error message, when SUB is called and not found
- fixed [~CONST]:x (CONSTants with single operators in lists)
- and much much more
This publication is a very early alpha version. Please send references to
errors, suggestions and ideas to kuchinka@volny.cz.
The compiler runs from AmigaOS V3.0, CPU 68EC020, 4MB RAM and 3-4 MB free space
on the hard disk. The compiler itself doesn't require an FPU. The generated
programs, however, will require an FPU if they use floats.
The PPC binaries run with powerpc.library.
Apart from the compiler, "phxass" and "phxlnk" will be needed for generating
68K code, as well as "pasm" and "vlink" for PPC code.
These programs can be found on the homepage of Frank Wille.

AROS: Update of CD-ROM ISO, vote about Zune
From Matt Parson's AROS page:
"I have updated the CD-ROM ISO, sorry about the delay but my exams got
in the way. I'm moving house, so it is likely that I may not be able
update this site for about two weeks.
Adam is currently working on a Workbench... I will bring you an updated
AROS disk as soon as there is something to show.
I have a new vote on my Feature request page, we need to decide the
new name of our MUI clone (Zune), now that it has been chosen as the
standard GUI Manager for AROS."
The DNS entry for aros.org has not yet been updated. However, the
AROS homepage is accessible via its IP address:

Little Book of Amiga Software: 6 new games
6 games have been added to the "Little Book
of Amiga Software":
- Updated: Games list
- New entry: Bundesliga Manager professional
- New entry: Obsession
- New entry: Super Monaco G.P.
- New entry: FIFA International Soccer
- New entry: Rock'n Roll
- New entry: Battle Command
Further news from the Amiga Society website:
20 more entries are being prepared. But we want to fill the entries with
more life in the future.
So, in the future there will be more "updates" of existing entries than really
new ones, but for that there might be more interesting information about the
particular games and applications.
The updates for the hardware page can already be viewed at the English parent
site. Alas! a translation is still far off.
An update for the Schlachtfeld page will hopefully come into effect this weekend
- let's see if we'll have enough time.....
