Icon-Designer for DirectDos wanted
Marius Schwarz is searching a graphician who could 'just' paint about 1,200 icons.
Those Icons shall be used to identify datatypes in DirectDos, so it isn't really about
1,200 icons, but might be only 300 to 400 - so it's an absolutely practicable task :-).
At this time 166 (more or less good) icons exist. If you are interested, please mail
to Marius Schwarz.

Survey on the Airsoft Softwair Homepage
Andreas Falkenhahn wrote:

people out there who want this method of payment. If you do not
order any of my programs or the The Best Of Airsoft Softwair Gold

vote now on the Airsoft Softwair homepage.
But please vote honestly! Thank you!

GFX-BASE: Test of 'WordHunt', Search, Links
Kevin Hansen has released an English
test
of the think-game 'WordHunt' by Robert/Bob Dickow on
GFX-BASE.
'WordHunt' is about finding words hidden in a box full of characters.
Moreover the website was extended at other areas:
the search function has been strongly enhanced, so among other things
searching inside of the scene demo database is now possible, too.
New links as well as game and scene demo entries were added and some days
ago the GFX-Base introduced the last week's Aminet highlights.

PCI: Matay and Elbox (Update)
Matay published an official statement about the letter Elbox Computer
sent to Fabio Trotta. The letter by Elbox bears on Fabio Trotta's test
of the Prometheus board on NoRiscNoFun and
is part of the statement.
Supplement 27 May 2001
Elbox accused Matay to use graphics board drivers by Elbox without permission,
whereas Matay refers to an existing contract with the Picasso96 team.
(Desiatox)
(sd)
Supplement 28 May 2001
Today also the Picasso96 team piped up to definitively invalidate the accusation,
"we, the Picasso96 team, just want to straighten out that the Voodoo
boards driver utilized for the test was written by ourself. After all we have
experiences with this chip-set since the MacPicasso850. Furthermore Matay are
respectable business partners of ours. From our point of view all of the accusations
launched by Elbox are completely weak and of unbelievable bad style".

MPEG player: Frogger 1.65rc5 for PowerPC released
A new version of the Amiga MPEG animation player ´Frogger´ for PowerPC
computers has been released. With this it is now possible to select several
animations at once that are then played one after another.
The graphical user interface (GUI) has been revised and causes less often a
system crash. The speed was also part of the revision and much has been improved.
In case that the original Frogger website (title link) is too slow, you can use
this mirror site for
downloading, too. The program is shareware and can be registered either directly
at the author Sebastian Jëdruszkiewicz in Poland or for German readers at

New pictures and report from the 'Japanese Business Show 2001'
As already reported,
Sharp Corporation presented the Sharp Zaurus pocket computer with AmigaDE as application
for the first time at their booth at the 'Japanese Business Show 2001' in Tokyo. Ralph
Ewers, an amiga-news.de reader currently living in Tokyo, has visited the show for us
and sent us more pictures and a small report.
Ralph Ewers had the chance to talk to Sharp's planning manager and obtain the following
information:
The Zaurus is supposed to be available in America this autumn running Linux (in English) instead
of the Japanese ZaurusOS. The American version will most likely contain some improvements:
in the same case, a faster CPU may be built into (the current CPU was at times indeed
slow running the DE), a battery with longer life and a keyboard with larger keys is planned
as well. Whether AmigaDE will be included depends on the licence fees which are currently
not decided yet. A first prototype of the English Zaurus may be seen at the Java-One taking
place in early June in America.
At least, Bill McEwen (here only called "Mister Bill" since it's easier to pronounce for
the Japanese) has had some successful meetings with a Sharp manager (these personal
meetings are very important!). He's at least in e-mail contact with the "planning manager"
I spoke to.
Amiga is definitely seen "only" as "content provider". A native DE hasn't been
thought about so far. (At least that's the official reply!)
Other "highlights":
The color display of the Palm m505 is at least in the default configuration
rather ugly and strongly reminds of the PalmIIIc. It also reflects awfully
(it has that - sadly - in common with the Zaurus). Regarding this, the
Cassiopeia s700 (or was it i700) impressed me very much. Subjectively not
any heavier than a Palm V (slightly deeper) and a great display with higher
resolution.
Logitec plans to release a DVD-R/RW (yes, "R") drive with FireWire in June,
the price is interesting: 120,000 Yen (plus 5% tax here in Japan).
Bluetooth was a big topic. Panasonic for example has presented miscellaneous
hardware; some kind of Gameboy, headphones, expansion cards for the
memory card slot and so on, and there's also a lot of choice for the Zaurus.
