aminetGUI is NOT offline
In some forums there is a rumor that says the aminetGUI and even the whole AmiNET were offline. This is not true. he AmiNET as well as the aminetGUI are online. Only the URL www.aminet.de is offline since the domainprovider has problems. The current URL is www.amiga-gateway.de/aminetgui/index.html. All services of the GUI can be reached under this URL.

Alexander Kurtz, webmaster of the Aminet-GUI wrote: "I do not intend to give up on this project. Currently I lack the time to make all the changes I imagined to make, but I am still working on it! I owe this to you, the Amiga community."

EASys! Update 4.8.4 and bugfix with OS 3.9
The update to version 4.8.4 of EASys! will be ready for 20.12.2000 at the latest. User who bought the 4.8.4 CD-R package at the fair in Cologne don't need that update anymore. But following things should be arranged with 4.8.4 CD-R package so OS 3.9 runs completely.
  • rename the file EASys!:config/OS39_with_toolsdaemon to OS39_with_rexxmenu
  • in file SYS:StartSys/e_WB/2_Toolbar (or 2_ToolManager_EASys) add one line before the startup of the toolmanager:
    wait 10
this is required because an asynchron simultaneous start of AmiDock and ToolManager causes a bug.

New Sample-Set for WormsDC
Since Hyperion are taking their time for "Worms Armageddon" for the Amiga, I have created a new sample-set with up to 90% of German samples for the old "Worms - The Directors Cut" (try the "Suizid-Oma" or atomic bomb;)). This puts the fun back into WormsDC :-). Caution: the set is approximately 3 MB large (you need a lot of Fast-Ram to use the samples).

Trouble with Defective Crusoe Processors
NEC calls back notebooks
Shortly after notebooks with the Transmeta processor went on sale, they make negative headlines. Because of defective chips, NEC calls back the sold notebooks.

NEC shipped the new notebooks La Vie XM. 284 in Japan for only a few days, now they were called back because of defective processors. According to Transmeta, the fault has already been fixed, the devices run without problem. Probably a reaction to the defective chips: the stock market value of the processor manufacturer dropped by 5.06 US$. Apparently, defective chips have also been built into the new Sony Picture Books Vaio PCGCi VE. Other than NEC, the Japanese company does not plan to call back the computers. An exact number of affected devices is not known yet. US media speak of about 13,000. Sony offers free exchange of the notebooks if difficulties with installing Windows appear.

SEGA in the red
(Irina Srebot) - Since the introduction of the Dreamcast console, the former hope becomes a millstone round the company's neck. The Japanese company faces a financial dilemma. Sega expects for the current financial year a loss of 193 million Euro. Despite price reductions to stay competitive with Sony's Playstation 2, there's no hope for a change. Analysts recommend Sega to concentrate on developing software. Since March 2000, Sega sold profitably 30.2 million games.

Supplement 12-16-2000:
Accidently we coughed an elder message. On 12-12-2000 Heise reported that contrary to what many experts expected Dreamcast sells very well after the release of Playstation 2. So according to the manufacturer around Thanksgiving sells increased of 85% percent compared to sells of the week before. Also Sega would profit from Sony's delivery problems in the case of Playstation 2, said Peter Moore, president of Sega USA, in an interview with the news service CNET on the Jupiter Entertainment Conference in Los Angeles, yesterday.
