Warp3D and PCI Graphics Boards
Recently Hans-Jörg Frieden has expressed himself in our
forum regarding the topic driver
software for PCI graphics boards under Warp3D:
«Unfortunately the number of e-mails regarding Warp3D and PCI cards
accumulates for Thomas and me. Almost every time it is "I have purchased a card
of the brand XXX, when will you have 3D drivers ready?"...
Regarding this I want to say the following: Warp3D is and will continue to be a hobby project
that is cooking on smaller flame as for now, because of the time consumption
of Hyperion. If possible we'll write drivers. Nevertheless I will explicitly
point out, that the buying of a graphics card is no cogent reason for us to produce a
driver for it - as that takes quite some time. There will probably be no
driver for Voodoo 5 (V4 is questionable but more likely), none for GeForce, Riva TNT,
ATI Rage or whatever else, especially when there exists no chip documentation.
Neither we will attempt to recycle a Linux driver.
In the case that somebody could get some chip documentation (legal!) and make it
available for us the chances for a driver increase but this is no guarantee
either.»
Via email Hans-Joerg adds that this is no kind of arbitrariness but only a
hint that people shouldn't waste their money for graphics cards that can't be
supported simply because of the lack of time or documentation...
We are getting mails all the time from people asking for GeForce support or
Voodoo 5 but for those documentation isn't accessible. We have tried it even at
NVidia, without success, even not against NDA... :-(

A question concerning this subject: Is there interest to buy the Mediator-PCI

drivers? If you are interested please send an email to
martin@coolbits.de. If there is enough
interest I will contact the makers of the drivers to ask for the price of such
a deal.
By the way, here is a tip for all those who own EXODUS in combination with a

Amiga Sound Standards and How to Destroy Them (Part 1)
Joern Plewka wrote:
In the past Katodev had to fight the fact that internally there wasn't enough
menpower available. That's why it was impossible for us to participate in
certain discussions. The things that head towards us now (criticism about
AMPlifier) is from our point of view hard and "generated".
Katodev and others are trying to support all of the existing standards those
usable from concept. We'd like to point out that the mpeg.device has been
released 1993 by Commodore (picture and sound). All cards with hardware
MPEG-support that were released after that have used this driver. CD32-FMV,
Peggy+, Melody-Z2, Melody1200 series and also the Delfina series.
For the later even the source code is available on Aminet. Those who are
now still not capable of writing a correct driver for their hardware should
simply ask for help or make their hardware layout available for everyone!
AMPlifier supports this standard. Those who create a driver for their hardware
can use this software unlicensed. AMPlifier is part of OS3.9 or available on
our homepage (unrestricted shareware) in Rev. 2.21. Those who don't like the
software should write their own, but please support the standards!

Silversurfer does NOT Work with Melody1200
Joern Plewka wrote:
Since the Cologne fair previous to this year's fair the Silversurfer in it's
original state doesn't work correctly with Melody1200 since the complete
clockport is blocked, which is in contradiction with what the manufacturer
states at his homepage. This information isn't even available to users when
they ask for support. Katodev is fed up with fixing Silversurfers without
complaining, by now. Currently it seems that even the software does NOT work
with Melody1200 anymore.
If Silversurfer and Melody1200 can't work together simultaneoulsy it means
that Melody can die from bus-collisions, sooner or later. Please get a guaranty
on purchase that Silversurfer does the things you require or use Twister1200.
This makes you preventing a lot of anger, port and time for you and us.
We have reconstructed the layout of the Silversurfer now. This shows that the
IRQ runs over a diode. Those having problems due to this "trick" should
replace the diode by a transistor (e.g. BS170).

VirusHelp Denmark: New Informationen on New Trojan
I have received some new info about the new trojan that was found
on the 27'th of December. It is spread in an archive with the name
"dcs-4k.lha". But the demo group have nothing to do with this new
trojan. We have also been told that it is a guy from England and
that he also made the "dkg-blum.lha" trojan, his name and address is
known to Virus Help Denmmark. Thanks to Mikko for the new info.
Here once more the full information on the new archive (we had posted
these on 12/27/2000 already):
Today we received a new 'lame' trojan. This trojan will delete your
"sys:" if you run the program. At this time non of the anti-virus
programs can detect this trojan, but in the next update they will
be known.
The cure right now (If you have lost your SYS: to bad......), then
you will have to try and get the files back with eg. DiskSalv,
AB-Tools or VT-Schutz.
Here is some info about the infected archive:
Virus Type.... : Trojan
Trojan name....: 4KIntro.exe
Trojan size....: 4096 bytes (packed with StoneCracker 4.04)
: 6072 bytes (un-packed)
Archive name.. : dcs-4k.lha
Archive size.. : ? (Not known yet)
This archive has been send to all the antivirus programers.....
Thanx to Ryben Kozlak for the info and sending the archive to us..

Visitor #2,000,000 on amiga-news.de
Last night, the 2,000,000th visitor came to our website. Joe has sent us a
screenshot of the 'event'. A proud number for 27 months. This
turns out about 74,074 visitors per month, with rising tendency.
Currently, between 6,000 and 8,000 readers visit us per day!
This is the opportunity to thank you for this great acceptance. We are
very happy, especially about the fact that more and more programmers,
developers, and readers take the chance to enter news in our
Amiga News Forum (ANF) themselves.
As you certainly know, we are a team of Amiga users
who invest a large amount of their spare time in this project. That's exactly
why we are happy about your feedback and of course most of all about every support, as without all your
help, amiga-news.de wouldn't have emerged to what it is today: one of the best news services
