Floppy disk images reading and writing on PC or Mac: Greaseweazle 0.31
Keir Fraser's "Greaseweazle" does - similar to Kryoflux - read the magnetic information on a floppy disk independently from the format used and saves as much information as possible to generate a so-called "Flux Level Image" in Supercard format (SCP), which enables reading and back-writing of copy-protected disks (amiga-news.de reported).
The adapter gets connected between a floppy disk drive - e.g. a standard 3.5" PC one - and a USB port of the PC or Mac. Now released version 0.31 increases USB buffer size from 16 to 64 KB. Greaseweazle is available at various dealers. (snx)

Graphics card ZZ9000: New firmware 1.9.1
Lukas F. Hartmann's ZZ9000 is a graphics card with additional features and ports (network, USB, SD cards), which can be preordered in different versions (amiga-news.de reported).
Yesterday the new firmware version 1.9.1 was released. It requires the new RTG driver 1.9 (can be downloaded under the title link) and includes the following changes:
- Fixes issues from 1.9:
- PAL/NTSC/Interlace switching was sometimes unreliable, leading to garbage states if loading monitor driver after loading Workbench
- Video formatter writes (esp. for sprites) could be interrupted with other video formatter writes by vblank/split interrupt, leading to undefined states and garbage or doubled screen when switching modes (esp. with RTG/native mode switching)
- ZZ9000Installer had a bug that would not rename the correct driver for Zorro 2 systems (A500/A2000)
- Improvements vs 1.8:
- zzusb.device now in ZZ9000 ROM (Remove Devs:ZZ9000USBStorage.device!)
- Automatic discovery and boot from USB stick partitions (currently OFS/FFS only)
- "Turbo" method of setting up drawing registers now the default (helps with CyberStorm MK1, for example)
- 2 different palettes supported for 8-bit P96 split screen (requires P96 3.1.4+)
- Support for new Multi Monitor feature of P96 by setting DISPLAYCHAIN ToolType of ZZ9000 to NO (requires P96 3.1.2+)
- Horizontal Panning support in RTG modes
- Ethernet negotiation doesn't block boot anymore
- Native Capture: Fix rare Column Swap Bug
- Native Capture: Optional "Non Standard Sync" modes that are closer to the original refresh rate, enabled by setting ENV:ZZ9000-NS-VSYNC. Needs a tolerant display
- Native Capture: Moved all switching (incl. NTSC/PAL) code to vblank interrupt, fixing some RTG/native switching bugs
- INT6/INT2 Interrupts reworked in ZZ9000Net.device to support interrupt sharing with other cards and ZZ9000AX.
- New Screen Modes: 2560x1440@30Hz, 1600x1200, 720x480
- Fixes compatibility with some displays vs 1.8
- Known Problems:
- 256 MB AutoConfig Memory enabled only after first reset
- Autoboot and AutoConfig Memory features can lead to problems with some special Amiga setups. Use alternative firmware versions to disable these. With Autoboot disabled, you can use zzusb.device from Extras drawer in the installer archive.
- USB storage can be crashy with CS MK1 accelerator

AmigaOS 4: MediaVault 1.4.1 (Update)
MediaVault is an open source application for AmigaOS 4 which can be used to discover online radio stations. An external player like AmigaAmp and the jansson.library v2.12.1 are required. For the first time now Podcasts also are supported. The author George Sokianos wrote:
"I just released the new version of MediaVault 1.4.0, which brings one of my favorite features, and I am talking about the podcasts support.
MediaVault uses PodcastIndex.org to get data for the listed podcasts and episodes. It has more than 4.2 million of podcasts in it's database, making it one of the biggest online sources. I am sure you will find your beloved podcasts in there, as well.
MediaVault is the first native application for AmigaOS 4 that brings podcasts at the tip of your fingers. And I am sure that you will love it as much as I did developing it.
For now, MediaVault returns only 100 podcasts based on your search criteria, and only the latest 100 episodes of the selected podcast, but I am sure, until you listen to all of this content, the next version will be ready, bringing unlimited access.
The new version can be downloaded from the project GitHub page. If you already use the previous version, there is a self-update process, which you can find at the application menu. This can be used to update to the latest available version automatically.
I would like to thank all of my supporters for helping me develop MediaVault, adding new features and making better and better."
Detailed changes:
- You can now search for podcasts based on their title, see info and their avatar and a list of the latest 100 episodes.
- By selecting an episode and clicking the play button the audio is loaded to the player and starts playing.
- Changed the way the avatar images are downloaded, which is now faster and solves a lot of errors with network access, which resulted connection error messages to appear.
Update: (05:01, 11.10.21, dr)
Meanwhile version 1.4.1 is available. You now can choose your favourite player. With regard to playing Podcasts it seems that the 'Emotion' media player developed by Entwickler-X is most suitable. It can be purchased directly from the developer or e.g. in the Alinea Computer Shop for 25 Euro. Detailed changes:
- Added an error message when podcast response is not a successful one
- Added scripts/start_player.sample script. This can be used to set the preferred player. This needs to be renamed as start_player to be used. The reason the file is named like that is to avoid replacements in future updates. The file includes configuration for different supported players, but more can be added.
- Added Trending Podcasts search based on category and/or language
- Added radio station bitrate and codec information in results list and at the right sidebar.
- Changed the about window to add more information.
- Fixed the error of not finding the texteditor.gadget on start

Programming: 'Rust'-Support for Motorola 68000 announced
As Golem reports, the Rust programming language has received experimental support for the Motorola 68000 CPU architecture and processor family for the first time, thanks to a LLVM port. The associated code has been contributed to the main branch of the language's open source repository.
Golem further points out, "Currently, the Rust port to the M68k architecture is still considered experimental and is arguably not complete. In addition, the compiler test suite is not tested by default and the team makes few guarantees that the port will work. For native builds, those involved currently recommend using Debian's M68k port in the documentation, as well as old machines with the CPU such as the Atari or Amiga.
Supported and mainly supervised the work on the LLVM port to the processor architecture, which is now about 40 years old, by a small team of volunteers. The most important goal of the work here is to support the retro computing scene with the work on the compiler. So, together with the Rust port, it will be possible in the future to run other modern software written in Rust on the cherished old computers." (dr)

m68k assembler support: Plugins for JetBrain and Visual Studio IDEs
Recently we reported, that Chris 'platon42' Hodges is developing a (e.g. USB-Stack Poseidon) Plugin for the integrated development environment (IDE) of Jetbrains (e.g. CLion and IntelliJ for Windows, Mac OS and Linux) providing support for m68k assembler. It equips the IDEs with syntax highlighting and code refactoring capability for Motorola's instruction set.
This project also is available on GitHub and meanwhile the plugin is available as version 0.7 providing the following changes:
- Bugfix: 'btst' with pc-relative and weird immediate mode was missing (courtesy of Yann).
- Bugfix: 'movem' with pc-relative mode was missing for weird immediate mode (courtesy of Yann).
- Bugfix: Special registers for address mode matching only worked with lower case register names (courtesy of Yann).
- Enhancement: Assembler syntax with implicit immediate 1 for shifts and rotations no longer cause syntax errors (courtesy of Yann).
- Enhancement: Documentation for instruction with special register shows specific register expected.
- New: Added documentation provider info for global labels. Shows directives and comments above.
- Bugfix: Fixed BNF for labels with preprocessor statements.
- Disabled: 'END' detection was breaking parsing, causing havoc.
- Full changelog available at Github project site.
There is also a second, similar approach of the JetBrains employee Yann Cébron. However, there is no public version yet.
For Microsoft's IDE Visual Studio (among other supporting Visual Basic.NET, C, C++, C++/CLI, C++/CX, C#, F#, SQL Server, TypeScript and Python as well as HTML, JavaScript and CSS), there is also an extension providing support for Amiga's assembler language. (dr)

Controlling Sonos speakers: SonosController 1.1 (OS3/4, MorphOS)
Known for his workbench simulation TAWS, Michael Rupp had released his first Amiga program at the beginning of August, which is used to control Sonos speakers: SonosController (amiga-news.de reported). Now he has released version 1.1 for his program written in the programming language Hollywood, which for the first time is available for AmigaOS 3 in addition to AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS and includes the following changes:
- NEW: first release for AmigaOS 3.x besides 4.1 and MorphOS
- NEW: lots of performance improvements to make it usable on a 68060 cpu, resulting in being blazingly fast on PPC-Amigas.
- NEW: MUI 3.8 compatibility (instead of 5.0)
- NEW: zones (= rooms) are now saved in the config file so when starting the app the next time no network scan is necessary, resulting in a much quicker startup.
- NEW: to save on network traffic and CPU load, loading of the current queue can now be deactivated in the Preferences.
- NEW: network scan can now be cancelled and it's no longer possible to start a second scan while one is already running (this led to speakers being listed multiple times in v1.0).
- NEW: queue lists are now cached in memory and are only reloaded if a change has been reported by the according UPNP event.
- NEW: various zone values are now cached in memory and are no longer reloaded when switching between zones.
- NEW: loading of album art for radio stations
- NEW: timeout for UPNP subscription has been increased from 10 minutes to 1 hour (same as with the original Sonos app).
- NEW: added progress in percent while loading a list in the music source
- NEW: added the possibility to cancel loading a list in the music source
- NEW: "Settings" menu to accomodate the menuitems "Preferences..." and "MUI..."
- NEW: "About MUI..." menuitem to follow the MUI styleguide
- CHANGED: shortcuts for "Next" / "Previous" from Ctrl-LEFT/RIGHT to Alt-LEFT/RIGHT because on an Amiga keyboard the Ctrl key is quite far away from the cursor keys.
- REMOVED: browsing the music library by song: it was useless and took ages, it's much better to use the search instead.
- FIXED: renewal of UPNP subscription as well as unsubscription
- FIXED: TV input is now handled correctly.
- FIXED: improved handling when clicking like mad into the track position slider.
- FIXED: disable play button if action "Play" is not available
- FIXED: lots of minor bugfixes
