Dock in Mac OS style: New version of MacLikeDock (update)
In a tutorial for beatifying Workbench, Stefan Egger has pointed out that an updated version of the dock MacLikeDock is available. The program which was originally written for AmigaOS 4 imitates the look and the performance of the dock of Mac OS X. There is an older port of the program to AmigaOS 3, which is also used in Amikit, but this is supposed to be quite bugged. The version of MacLikeDock which is available on his website still has the version string "Mac-Like Dock 3.2 (03.29.13)", but according to Egger includes diverse bug fixes. more ... Event: Update to Amiga32
Markus Tillmann wrote: One and a half week before the Amiga32 will start on 28. Oktober in Neuss, we want to announce some final information:
  • For about three month the event is sold out - 520 persons (exhibitors and honoured guests included) will attend the Amiga32. We could have sold about 150 additional ticktes. Therefore the Amiga32 is one the biggest Amiga events.
  • There will be no box office at the event! Therefore it will be useless trying to attend the event without a valid ticket. If you are still interested in a ticket, then we recommend to have a look at our facebook site and at the diverse Amiga forums.
  • 27 exhibitors as well as 12 users will be on spot presenting their products and (partly) offering them for sale.
  • Several honoured guests also will be participate and most of them will give a lecture. Jeff Porter, Dr. Tim King as well as Jürgen Haage surely can be considered as the most interesting guests.
  • All guests also can enjoy wonderful music performed by Blue Metal Rose, Chris Hülsbeck and Mark "TDK" Knight.
  • There will be also a draw for which already more than 30 attractive prices have been made available.
  • Cloanto will give a free full version of its Amiga emulator "Amiga Forever" of the latest version to each guest.
  • Of course everybody will be invited to use our catering service.
  • The comeback issue of the Amiga Joker will be available for 5,- Euro.
  • On Saturday 9:15 p.m. the Amiga documentation "From Bedrooms to Billions: The Amiga Years" will start in the Hitch cinema. The film will be shown in the original, English-language version. Tickets are available for 5,- Euro and can be ordered from info@amiga32.de or the Eventbrite ticket site.
The organizing team is looking forward to the Amiga32 and wants to give thanks to all supporters! (cg) (Translation: dr)

Latest installation ISOs for Debian Sid/m68k
Recently the latest installation CDs for Debian "Sid", which is the "unstable" developer branch of the Linux distribution, have been released on the official Debian server (Youtube video of the installation on an Atari Falcon). Experienced users who want to help debugging are very welcome to take part in the discussion on the Debian-68k mailing list or on the IRC (#debian-68k on OFTC). Debian at least requires a 68020 processor and a MMU. Due to the size the kernel image probably has to be extracted before it is booted. (cg) (Translation: dr)

FriendUP: François Lionet is working on an AMOS port
FriendUP is an Amiga inspired operating system which runs in the web browser (amiga-news.de reported). In a statement on Facebook, one of the developers, the French programmer François Lionet, has told that in his spare time he is working on a port for AMOS of FriendUP.

He wrote: "AMOS code (or ascii AMOS code) will be converted into Javascript calls to AMOS library, that will render the display in a Canvas. You will also be able to program directly in Javascript and call the AMOS library. It will accept real AMOS files, and convert images into PNGs, sounds into MPG or WAV etc. opening the door to the immense collection of AMOS PD games and apps." (snx) (Translation: dr)

SDL support for Hollywood: RebelSDL 1.0
Press release: Summer's over and Airsoft Softwair, the hardest working men in code business, are back on your screen with a brand-new plugin for Hollywood: RebelSDL. RebelSDL is a plugin for Hollywood that allows you to use SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer) from Hollywood. This makes it possible to write scripts that utilize the host system's graphics hardware to create high-performance, butter-smooth 2D animation that is produced completely in hardware by the GPU of your graphics board. This leads to a huge performance boost over the classic Hollywood graphics API which is mostly implemented in software for maximum portability and compatibility. Especially systems with slower CPUs (like the Raspberry Pi) will benefit greatly from hardware-accelerated drawing, scaling, and transformation offered by SDL. more ... (cg) (Translation: dr)

Emulation of Sam 460 using QEMU in development
According to a mail on the QEMU-PPC mailing list Zoltan Balaton is working on an emulation of a Sam-460 using QEMU. In the first status report (middle of August) he described that AROS as well as MorphOS could boot, but finally failed due to different problems. Balaton could not test AmigaOS, because he does not own a copy of AmigaOS 4.1 besitzt.

The emulator QEMU emulates or virtualizes alot of computers or processors. If the host system has a suitable processor, QEMU does not have to emulate it - so Balaton's project could succeed in emulating Sam 460 operating systems under different PPC hardware - e.g. Apple-Hardware .

On a common Windows-PC, QEMU would have to emulate the PPC-CPU, but would not have to emulate the complex custom chip emulation, which is currently required to run AmigaOS 4 "Classic" under WinUAE. (cg) (Translation: dr)
