Game announcement: "Super Metal Hero" (AGA)
For 2020 Double Sided Games has not only announced some C64 releases on its website but also an Amiga game: "Super Metal Hero" will be written by Michael Gibs and 'Tenshu' and "is a shooting action platformer with side scrolling combined with shoot'em up levels". Some screenshots are already available - the game is supposed to be available Q4 2020 and requires an AGA-Amiga with 68030 processor and 4 MB Fast-RAM.

PDF magazine: REV'n'GE 107 (Italian/English)
The PDF magazine REV'n'GE ("Retro Emulator Vision and Game") is available in Italian as well as in an English-language translation. REV'n'GE compares and reviews games and programs on vintage computers.
Among others the latest issue includes an article about the Amiga sports game "Super Ski II", the educational game "Rody & Mastico II" and the multimedia software "Scala IC400".

Shoot'em Up: Preview video of RESHOOT PROXIMA 3
The former "Amiga Joker" editor Richard Löwenstein is working on his third shoot'em up game. After RESHOOT and RESHOOT R currently "RESHOOT PROXIMA 3" he is writing. A preview video was released a few weeks ago. On his Patreon website Löwenstein publishes updates and background information.

C65: Cloanto license for Mega65 project
The Mega65 project is going to make the C65 based on FPGA adding "some 21st century improvements" (like network and HDMI ports).
According to an announcement on Facebook since the Amiga30 in Neuss an "agreement has been in place" that "every MEGA65 computer will be bundled with the original C65 ROMs to ensure full C65 compatibility".

Preview video: Doom clone for Amiga 500
KK/Altair is working on a Doom clone for an A500 equipped with 1 MB RAM which can ply real Doom-WAD files. In a video he demonstrates how he uses a Doom editor for creating a part of a level for his engine. Afterwards he tested it (from about 10:20) in an emulated Amiga 500.
The programmer has pointed out that his port has required some fundamental improvements which could cause cause problems, e.g. detecting possible collisions. Therefore levels have to be adapted to his engine and tested.

A1222: Production of "Early Adopter Edition" maybe starts in the third quarter
In the latest entry on his blog, Trevor Dickinson has focused on the negative aspects of the coronavirus outbreak with respect to A-EON and Amigakit: "Matthew Leaman informed me that, due to factory shutdowns, several of his new classic Amiga hardware products have not been shipped or are now greatly behind schedule. A-EON Technology's A1222 early Adopter development and release schedule has similarly been affected and Matthew thinks the delays could push production into the third quarter of this year."

MorphOS 3.13: Hotfix for ixemul.library
The release of MorphOS 3.13 about two weeks ago detected a bug ixemul.library: By default a wrong FPU rounding mode was used. As the developers wrote, "the bug can manifest itself in various ways, one example is "tinny" audio output in various games" like the demo version of Wings Remastered.
The hotfix for the ixemul.library can be downloaded under the title link. After unarchiving it, simply copy it to the WBStartup drawer. If in future a bug fixed version of the ixemul.library will be released the hotfix would not affect it.

AmigaOS 4: Role playing game SoulFu, diverse 3D games updated
Hugues 'HunoPPC' Nouvel has ported the RPG 'SoulFu' to AmigaOS. It requires his updated EGL-Wrapper. Furthermore some older ports have been updated and adapted to the EGL-Wrapper which mostly improves the performance. Therefore it is possible to run the games in higher screen modes. The updated games are 'Pacman Arena', 'Pingus', 'Reborn to Castle Wolfenstein', 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein' and 'ZAZ'.

AmigaOS 4: libegl_wrap 0.7.16 (beta)
Hugues 'HunoPPC' Nouvel is working on an EGL-OpenGL-Wrapper which is based on Warp 3D Nova/OpenGL-ES combination sold by A-EON. The wrapper is supposed to simplify porting modern OpenGL based games (Youtube video).
A new beta version now is available under the title link. According to the developer the update provides several improvements and bug fixes.

Arcade game: AMiner 2020-2-20
AMiner (video) is a simple arcade game for one or two players which originally was developed for the game competetion Retrokomp under time pressure. Since the original release the author provides updates and is working on the game.

Print magazine: Amiga Future, issue 143 - preview and excerpts

Among other things, this issue features an interview with Thomas Meiertoberens (Magic Bytes), reviews of 'Black Strawberry Cake', 'Black Dawn Rebirth' and 'Insanity Fight Construction Set' as well as the fourth part of the 'AmigaOS 3.1.4' special.

ISA Power processor: OpenPower Foundation introduced open license model
In August the OpenPower Foundation had announced the release of the Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) of the POWER processors of IBM as open source. Now the license model was introduced: In future chip manufacturers are allowed to build and sell their own Power kernels under the free license (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0, CC BY 4.0) without having to pay license fees to the OpenPower Foundation. Two example implementations called "Microwatt" and "Chiselwatt" are also provided.

Game project: New preview video of 'Scourge of the Underkind'
"Scourge of the Underkind" is a tribute to games like Gods, Chaos Engine and Alien Breed, is written in assembler and will offer 16 levels devided into four worlds. After a longer break - the first previews were released four years ago - now the developers are working on the game again. Today a new preview video has been released.

Web browser: IBrowse 2.5.2
An update for the web browser IBrowse 2.5 has been released which mainly provides support for AmiSSL 4.4 and fixes some enforcer hits:
- AmiSSL 4.4 now required for HTTPS connections, which brings the latest OpenSSL 1.1.1d with improved TLSv1.3 support, improved performance on 68k (particularly 68060) and no longer crashes on 68020/030 without FPU (see full list of AmiSSL 4.4 changes)
- OS4: AmiUpdate will update installed catalog files
- Attempts to clean the disk cache now correctly ignored when the disk cache is completely off, fixing possible enforcer hits
- Fixed disk cache from only ever caching small files
- 68k: Fixed enforcer hits in PNG decoder when CyberGraphX is not in use

Encryption: AmiSSL 4.4 (AmigaOS 3/4)
The AmiSSL library has been updated and now is compatible to the latest OpenSSL version 1.1.1d. Additionally the root certificates has been updated and diverse bug fixes and optimizations provided. The developer ask for support for porting AmiSSL to MorphOS and AROS - programmers are needed for those platforms. That's the reason AmiSSL currently is only available for AmigaOS.
Changes:
- Updated OpenSSL backend to full compatibility to latest OpenSSL 1.1.1d (10.09.2019) version.
- Applications compiled with the AmiSSL 4.3 SDK will need to be recompiled to use this release (if the AmiSSL 4.0-4.2 SDK was used, those applications do not need recompiling and will automatically use AmiSSL 4.4).
- Updated root certificates to latest Mozilla-based bundle provided by https://curl.haxx.se/ca/
- Now includes separate 68020-40 and 68060 optimised versions.
- Fixed poor 64-bit integer math performance (including erratic mouse movement) specific to 68060 processors, caused by software emulation of instructions not present on 68060 processors.
- Added 68060 optimised 64-bit multiplication routine from vbcc with permission by Frank Wille.
- Improved BN performance for 68060 (disabled m68k asm replacement as it's slower due to the above).
- Improved elliptic curve performance for all m68k processors.
- Fixed the OS3 target from crashing on systems with a 68020/030, but without an FPU (#37).
- Disabled Poly1305 FPU algorithm on Tabor A1222 (#38).

New orders in legal dispute between Cloanto and Hyperion
In the last two trials between (among others) Cloanto and Hyperion, which both are tried by the same judge, new orders have been given. Die the action for infringement of trade mark rights C-A Acquisition Corp and Cloanto against Hyperion, in which both plaintiffs could obtain a default judgement due to Hyperion's inactivity, is suspended until a previous dispute has been solved.
In the previous dispute, between Amino, Itec, Amiga Inc. and Cloanto on the one hand and Hyperion on ther other hand, Cloanto obviously has requested the court - the relevant document is not publicly available - for an alternative dispute resolution. But the judge denied: "The Court does not believe that such is required at this point, as the parties have recently participated in settlement discussions (we reported) and can continue to do so voluntarily."

AmigaOS-4-Cross compiler: GCC 8.3.0 for MacOS X
Costel 'Cyborg' Mincea has compiled GCC 8.3.0 as AmigaOS-4-Cross compiler for MacOS. After extracting the archive you have to edit the PATH so Mac OS will find binary file in /usr/local/amiga/bin. The SDK-53.30 includes have to be copied to /usr/local/amiga/ppc-amigaos/SDK. Mincea did successfully a short test but a proper practical test is still pending.
Linking C++ code is a little bit special due to the beta status of the used compiler from the adtools project.

Workbench distribution: AmiKit XE 11.2 (gaming update)
Press release: Today's update brings a number of legendary games to your AmiKit! One of them is premiering on Amiga, actually. It's an action role-playing hack and slash game called Diablo (shareware). Yes, that's right! And you can play it in a window on your Workbench too!
The same with Dune II - you can play it in a window thanks to OpenDUNE port which enhances the original version as well (note that you need the original 1.07eu game files). We've also included a DOS emulator called DOSBox with several shareware games pre-installed like Prince of Persia 1 & 2, Wolfenstein3D and SuperMario. Nice, right? If you have kids, they will love Elfie the Unicorn! We've also included a special easy peasy version for them :-)

Settlement discussions between Cloanto and Hyperion aborted
As amiga-news.de has been told by several sources, the settlement discussions between Cloanto and Hyperion regarding a settlement agreement have been aborted without tangible results last week. As far as we know, the next step to avoid a lengthy and costly trial would be mediation involving a neutral mediator - but we don't know if both parties are actually working towards that option right now. Leu 0.08: Opening Excel and ODS files
Version 0.08 of Marcus 'ALB42' Sackrow's FreePascal program for loading and editing Excel- (xlsx), Open- and LibreOffice- (ods) as well as TurboCalc- (tcd) and ASCII files (csv), called Leu, has been released for AmigaOS, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS (ARM, x86, x64).
Regarding the chnages the author wrote: "Implemented basic sorting and search function including replace, very basic but working, also the sorting close to the LibreOffice sorting, multi key sorting (up to 3 but in principle could make more, but is more than 3 really useful?)."

Advance booking: Flashback 20/20 featuring Amiga 35 (Netherlands)
It has been announced that in 2020 again there will be an Amiga event in the Netherlands. Meanwhile information are available on the planned concept. Additionally advance booking has been started for a few days. The "Amiga 35" (27. and 28. June, Hilversum) will be embedded in a major event called "Flashback 20/20".
Flashback 20/20 is going to celebrate computer systems of the 80s and 90s, arcade and flipper machines will be presented as well. Additionally a major 35th anniversary party is planned. Among others speakers will be Dave Haynie, RJ Mical as well as game developers like Annie and David Fox (Lucasfilm) or Al Lowe (Leisure Suit Larry) and famous Youtuber like "The 8-bit guy" or "Modern Vintage Gamer".
A day ticket is available for 35 Euro, an entrance pass for both days costs 60 Euro. You can also reserve a "VIP Event" which is available for 100 to 350 Euro.

Commercial puzzle game: MATCHIC Collector's Edition (Update)
In the puzzle game MATCHIC you have to place tokens of the same colour next to each other to make them disappear. The game was already commercially released in 1991 but only available only for a short time due to the bankruptcy of the publisher. The British publisher Psytronik is going to relaunch the game in a big box.
The box contains the following items:
- MATCHIC game on 3.5" disk presented with a vinyl disk label.
- A3 game artwork poster.
- Glossy instruction manual.
- Glossy art card.
- Badges.
- Stickers.
- Keyring.
The game will be delivered in March. Everyone who pays in advance will get a discount of 10 percent on the selling price of about 47 Euro.

AmigaOS 4: SSHTerm 1.2
Fredrik 'salass00' Wikstrom has released version 1.2 of an Amiga spezific SSH solution called SSHTerm.
It requires AmiSSL 4.3.
Changes in version 1.2:
- Specifying the KEYFILE argument now implies that public key authentication should be used instead of any other method (same as in ssh2-handler).
- Now uses an offscreen buffer for text rendering which should speed up anti-aliased text rendering on most platforms.
- Increased read and write buffers in main loop from 256 to 1024 bytes.

Screenshot.sbar for Ambient written by #amigazeux can save screenshots and offers a lot of options - e.g. the tool "can grab windows, entire screens or just a freely selectable portion of the screen", "can grab the mouse pointer too" and "can superimpose an editable text over taken screenshots".
Changes in version 1.1:
- Fixed a serious bug that freed hotkeys twice and led to crashes when changing f.e. the MUI theme.
- Images are saved using Reggae now, so screenshots can be saved in either PNG, JPEG, TIFF, IFF, IFFDEEP, SunRaster and RAW.
- Added %x keyword which gets replaced by the suffix of the set image format (without the dot) for building the filename of a screenshot.
- Added a corresponding menu item to "Quick Options" menu to select the image format for saving.
- Added flat icons for Prefs and title bar to distribution. They can be found in Copy_To_Sys/Data/Screenbar/Screenshot.
- Added an option to resize a taken screenshots using selectable image filters.
- Will not block the audio hardware any longer in case some other program needs exclusive access to it.

- Opacity of grabbed mouse-pointer is setable now.
- Success/Error window now has a title.
- Displays the dimension of the screen in "Grab Screen" menu item for the screen.
- Displays positions and dimensions of windows in the corresponding menu for windows of a screen.
- TestPaint: Fixed a bug in Dot tool that only drew the first mouse down event.

Press release: The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the immediate availability of MorphOS 3.13. This new version offers more sophisticated text rendering including new font hinting and anti-aliasing modes to choose from. These include subpixel anti-aliasing for sharper and more detailed text on most LCD displays for any applications that allow text output via TTEngine. For those interested in testing this new feature, go to the Fonts section of System Preferences, enable "LCD" anti-aliasing, save your changes and then reboot. Next, run our integrated development environment Flow Studio, go to Editor Settings and switch on TTEngine mode.
In addition to general stability, performance, and security improvements, MorphOS 3.13 also brings important bug fixes for Pegasos I, Pegasos II, and Sam 460 systems as well as a driver for the on-board Gigabit ethernet controller found on A-EON P50x0 mainboards. For owners of Apple PowerMac7.x computers, there is a new shell tool for controlling the fan speed along with inspecting fan status and system sensor temperatures on these systems.
Existing users who have kept the built-in 'Default' choice for window skins will notice an altered appearance after upgrading. Anybody who prefers the previous look is advised to switch from "Default" to "Ferox" in the Screens section of System Preferences. Likewise, if your window skin was changed and you would like the rest of the user interface to look similar, please open MUI Preferences, click on the Settings button and choose the "Origo" theme. Please note that this step may overwrite personalized settings unless you choose to save them as a custom theme beforehand.
We strongly urge new users to carefully read our installation and troubleshooting guides before they attempt to install MorphOS for the first time. Existing users can upgrade via the familiar procedure but are encouraged to read the guides as well. MorphOS 3.13 is available for download in our files section.

French webshop Amedia sells personalized WHDLoad keyfiles
Amedia sells keyfiles for WHDLoad. The WHDLoad system has been freeware for four years and does not require any keyfile - the Amedia keyfiles obviously are personalized having the name of the customer in the WHDLoad requester.
We have asked Bernd Jahn if the offer is valid which he confirmed. Requesting if there has not been any option for donating money he points out to the official donation site of WHDLoad, which is not promoted.

Amiga comeback: Game developer and mailorder publisher 'Mutation Software'
The programmer Adrian Cummings is going to reactivate his old label 'Mutation Software' which in the 90ies he used to release and sell some games for the Amiga and PC. Now new editions of three former games are planned.
Tin Toy Adventure, Tommy Gun and Castle Kingdoms will be available again in spring - all of them in a box in a limited edition inclusive an autograph of the developer. For autumn a new platform game "Wiz" has been announced.
At the beginning of the year Cummings has released the assembler sourcecode of his game Cyberpunks originally published by Core Design as well as an archive with several graphics. Due to a hard disk failure the source code is slightly damaged at two points. Besides some informationen on level data are missing.

Working with adf images: GoADF! 2.2
The shareware programm (7 Euro) "GoADF!" can read and write ADF files and, among others, can mount them as virtual drives. New in version 2.2:
- a new Antivirus module - now GoADF! will detect any virus hidden in the image bootblock that is in the XVS library database.
- added full support for HFE files, now you can create images for your HxC Floppy Emulator.
- A lot of patches, improvements and optimizations, like when you create a new image from diskette, GoADF! now can use the name of the source volume as default filename and checks if the file extension '.adf' is present, if not it automatically append.

New demo version of Wings Remastered for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS
In autumn of 2015 the rights holder Cinemaware Retro announced an Amiga port of its Wings remake "Wings Remastered". A first playable preview was released in November of 2015. As a condition for completing the game was to get sufficient preorders (55 Euro) - approximately about 300 preorders were placed. After releasing a pre-version of the game at the Amiga 32 in 2017, nothing has happened about Wings Remastered.
What about Cinemaware Retro at all? The appearances in the social media have not been maintained, several paid orders of the "Collector's Editions" of 'Defender of the Crown' and 'Rocket Ranger' have been only delivered after the process was outsourced to another shop.
Daniel 'Daytona675x' Müßener, who was originally in charge of writing the Amiga port, is occasionally working on the game. About a year ago a short status report was published. In a post on amigans.net he now has announced the release of new demo versions for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS (x86).
The developer who according to his own statement has not been paid at all is asking for your patience. He is going to complete the game in any case even if there will be problems regarding the payment because he has invested so much work in the project. His motivation is low because the mount of work is much higher than expected and he is also working on other projects.

Shoot'em Up: Playable demo of Inviyya
In October 2018 preview videos of the shoot'em up game 'Inviyya' were available. At this time it was said that the engine was completed and the final release would be supposed to be available before Christmas 2018. Meanwhile a playable demo version has been released for the first time.
The "world premiere" of the game which the developer still classifies as "pre beta" took place in a live video stream on twitch.tv last Sunday. Inviyya was inspired by the classic game R-Type, requires an Amiga 500 and according to the developer "features 6 levels, couple of special weapons, 3 layer parallax scrolling and nice music and sfx". A commercial release will be available at Poly.play.
