MorphOS: Web browser Wayfarer 7.0
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek has released version 7.0 of his Wayfarer web browser for MorphOS. As the author writes, this is the seventh time Wayfarer has been upgraded to the latest stable WebKitGTK. At the same time, this release also marks the fourth anniversary of the project.

Version 7.0 has been the most challenging update so far: "Several new endian issues have crept into WebKit, with one of them causing an immediate crash when running JavaScript on big endian CPUs. The removal of some of the WinCairo port has also made it more difficult to maintain the MorphOS port. Many of the code paths that the MorphOS port is using aren't being used by the officially supported ports, which requires additional testing and bug fixing." Furthermore, support for the clipboard and the editor for saved passwords have been improved.

The developer appreciates every donation that supports the project.

Video series: Turning an Amiga 600 into a Classic Gaming Console
In a three-part series, two episodes have been published so far ((part 1, part 2), Wolfgang Kierdorf shows on his YouTube channel "RETRO is the new black" how he transforms an Amiga 600 into a retro game console for 4 players. As he told us, this project actually came about by chance, as he didn't want to have a bare Amiga 600 board lying around. All the components used are linked in the second video.

A third part of the video series will be published next week, in which HDMI will be added. In the meantime, there is also a version for the Amiga 500 (same case, only wider and deeper), as some users had asked for it, and the MiSTer/Raspberry Pi. The whole thing was designed in TinkerCad. (dr)

Game development: IFF/ILBM exporter v1.2 for Aseprite
Recently We introduced a script written by Prismatic Realms for the image editor Aseprite that converts graphics into an IFF/ILBM file. Version 1.2 has now been released with the following changes:
  • Dialog button shortcuts have been added.
  • Added a new checkbox option to export just the sprite's palette (CMAP). This is useful for Deluxe Paint users and Amiga game developers that work in Blitz Basic 2 and any other tools that allow you to load in an IFF palette file. The file essentially consists of just the IFF CMAP chunk.
  • Miscellaneous code cleanup.

Emulation: BBoot boot loader v0.5 now supports AmigaOne in QEMU (update)
In our Simplified installation guide for AmigaOS 4.1 under QEMU published in mid-August and written by Rene Engel (in German), the bootloader "BBoot" written by QEMU developer Balaton Zoltan was already used, which can now load the AmigaOne as well as the Pegasos 2 model in version 0.5.

Balaton Zoltan wrote: "BBoot is replacing the second level boot loader (amigaboot.of on pegasos2 and slb_v2 on amigaone) and makes booting AmigaOS on QEMU simpler and without needing a firmware ROM. Because BBoot runs without firmware it does not load files from disk but expects an initrd with the kickstart files in zip format loaded in memory and boots from that. This not only allows BBoot to remain simple but may also be more convenient to work with in an emulated environment and boot faster. The initrd should be a zip archive of all boot files within a Kickstart directory that can be created with "zip -r Kickstart.zip Kickstart/" for example. BBoot will look for Kickstart/Kicklayout file in the zip and boot the first config (LABEL) found in it. Currently BBoot takes no input and does not provide a boot menu so other than 1st config defined in Kicklayout cannot be chosen, but one could have different zip files for different configs and choose on the QEMU command line by using different Kickstart.zip.

BBoot can also configure PCI devices that is normally done by the firmware. Linux and MorphOS don't need this as they scan and configure PCI devices themselves during boot but AmigaOS relies on the firmware to do this so BBoot implements this too. While configuring PCI, BBoot prints debug messages that can be useful to check how these devices are configured, which can help in debugging PCI pass through or even when using newer graphics cards on a real PegasosII as BBoot can also patch 64 bit BARs that the Pegasos2 version of AmigaOS kernel cannot handle."

Balaton Zoltan has published a little guide on how to use BBoot. At least QEMU 8.1 is needed for the -initrd option on Pegasos 2 and QEMU 8.2 for the AmigaOne machine. (dr)

Text adventure: The Ghosts of Blackwood Manor
After The Curse of Rabenstein and Hibernated 1 (Director's Cut), Stefan Vogt has published another text adventure with graphics: "The Ghosts of Blackwood Manor" (YouTube video). Here, the player takes on the role of writer Thomas King and his wife Cora, who move into a remote Scottish manor house a few days before Christmas 1986. In search of inspiration for his next book, Thomas begins to research the history of Blackwood Manor and discovers a dark secret that goes back to the time of the great Scottish witch hunts.

The Ghosts of Blackwood Manor was written in Infocom's Z-machine format XZIP. The game has three different endings, a bad ending, a neutral ending and a good ending, depending on the player's choices. It is very likely that the player will not reach the good ending on the first playthrough, even though it is possible. Reaching the bad or neutral ending is part of the experience and helps the player to understand the true intentions of some of the protagonists and the consequences of the decisions made, so that these can be reconsidered.

A physical version will be available soon and can be pre-ordered from poly.play. The box will resemble Infocom's original packaging from back then. (dr)

AmigaOS 4: Extended audio emulator "Nallepuh" 1.7
"Nallepuh" or "Nalle Puh" is the Swedish name for Winnie the Pooh and is a hack that intercepts some custom chip register accesses and converts them into AHI function calls. The project, originally started by Martin Blom and now continued by Kjetil Hvalstrand and Damian, initially only emulated the Paula chip, which is responsible for audio and disc control.

With the resumption of development, the emulation of the Complex Interface Adapter (CIA-Chip), which manages serial, parallel, keyboard and other Amiga input and output activities, and the Blitter, an Amiga coprocessor with its own DMA channel, which is responsible for copying data and line drawing and can manipulate images, have also been added. The latter is based on Peter Gordon's Blitzen project: a blitter emulator for AmigaOS 4, which attempts to implement enough of the functionality of the classic Amiga blitter to allow more old programs to run on OS4 systems without the classic chipset. Blitzen has been integrated into the project by converting it into an Amiga library, libblitter.library. The following is currently being emulated:

Ascending and descending copy operations with shift
  • Descending mode fill operations with shift
  • Line mode (not tested)
  • End of DMA interrupt for apps using SetIntVector()
  • The 68k "WaitBlit" function is patched to wait for the emulated blitter
As Kjetil Hvalstrand tells us, the additions were necessary because some audio players use so-called "scanline synthesis" (see Marko Ciciliani's essay (PDF file) or the example FORMULA MINUS ONE): a translation of pixel data from a digital image or film into a graphic waveform.

Basically, the Nallepuh project tries to support system-friendly 68k software by "hijacking" the exception handler and thus giving it a higher priority than the OS exception handler. The following software has currently been successfully tested:
  • HippoPlayer
  • Dpaint4 (starts, you can do simple drawings, most of the tools are broken)
  • Payback (game sound now works)
  • SamplitudeOpus Light 3.5
  • Myst playable demo (CGX)
  • Symphonie Pro player (Some sound quality issues, 15bit playback not supported.)
  • Symphonie Pro Editor (works partially can be unstable, some sound issues.)
  • Electric Ocean - (use NewMode to set correct screen), Ignore DSI error, and it starts, crashes after.
  • ASnake - Workbench game
  • MiniArcanoid - Workbench game
The ptreplay.library, powerpacker.library and reqtools.library are required.
The author assumes that the problems can be solved with DPaint. There are many other interesting programmes and he is always happy to receive small unit tests: small programmes that test a function in the chipset. Bug report are highly appreciated. (dr)

Image and PDF converter: Image2PDF 2.4 for all Amiga systems
At the end of August, we reported on Bernd Assenmacher's PDF2JPG tool, which can be used to convert the images contained in PDFs into JPG images. As the author has developed further tools, Image2PDF (converts images into PDFs) and PDF2PDF (converts PDFs into copy-protected PDFs), there was a request in the subsequent comments to the news article to bundle these tools into one. This has been realised with the present Image2PDF version 2.4, which is available for AmigaOS 3, 4, AROS and MorphOS. The author has kindly provided us with a few explanations of the new version:

"The new version can do even more, such as "PDF2Image" (i.e. convert PDF not only into JPG or PDF format, but also into other formats such as PNG, BMP, GIF or ILBM/IFF). PDF2Image" also includes options such as "scaling" and "PDF2JPG" allows you to set the compression quality of the JPG image.

As another feature I have added an image scaling function "Image2NewSize", which can scale images to the desired resolution while maintaining the aspect ratio. (The result is of course highly dependent on the source image used). All other functions known from "Image2PDF V2.3" are of course still available. With "Image2PDF", you can now also scale the images at the same time by setting "ImageSize" as the format. I am already working on "Image2PDF V2.5", where the whole thing should be a bit more intuitive and where a function for converting images into other image formats will be added.

The beta versions can be downloaded from my my website and tried out. I am well aware that there are good tools that offer such functions, but since "Image2PDF" is all about images and PDFs, I try to include as much as possible.

I hope that many people will enjoy the tool and that it can help with tasks involving scans, images and PDFs.

I would be delighted to receive feedback by e-mail. Everyone who writes to me will receive his/her personal key." (dr)

Pseudo chunky screens on AGA Amigas: PED81C updated
With PED81C ("Pixel Elements Dots, 81 Colors") by Simone 'saimo' Bevilacqua there is an approach to work on AGA Amigas with pseudo-native chunky screens without performing the known chunky-to-planar conversions when displaying 3D graphics or any other slowing down additional calculations by CPU or custom chips (Copper, Blitter) at all (amiga-news.de reported). Now he has added a Voxel engine to his project and demonstrates it in a YouTube video. Other changes:
  • Fixed some palette values in a table in the documentation.
  • Added formulas for calculating DIWSTRT, DIWSTOP, DIWHIGH, DDFSTRT and DDFSTOP to documentation.
  • Replaced fixed values with the aforementioned formulas in the AMOS Professional source code example.

Game development: Color Palette Mixer for Aseprite
Two weeks ago, we reported on a script that converts graphics created using Aseprite into an IFF/ILBM file. In the German comments, Thomas 'imagodespira' Claus pointed out that "Aseprite always works in 24 bit." As a result, "Prismatic Realms" has now published a second script with which you only have 4096 colours to choose from.

When executed, a dialogue window presents a retro colour palette and a mixer, an RGB slider known from the Amiga with 4-bit granularity (i.e. values from 0 to 15 for each colour component). The palette mixer supports 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 (Extra HalfBrite) colour palettes without alpha channels and ensures that all colours on the palette conform to the Amiga's 16-bit colour palette restrictions. There is also a button that resets the colour palette to Deluxe Paint V's default palette. (dr)

Mod player: HippoPlayer 2.59
Kari-Pekka Koljonen, the developer of the Amiga-MOD players HippoPlayer, has released an update to version 2.59. Changes:

Fixes:
  • Patternscope and AHX modules: Fix bug which caused track 0 sometimes not being displayed.
  • Info window: Fix PSID song speed information sometimes showing wrong values.
  • Prevent jam when receiving no results from recent stations search.
  • Allow MS-DOS line changes in playlist/module program files.
  • Info window: Allow mousewheel to work with scrolling the content.
  • Commandline parameters: If started with "QUIT" and there is no existing HiP instance running, do not start a new one.
  • Keep list on exit: when starting HiP with commandline/icon modules as parameters do not lose the kept list, instead append to the end.
New features:
  • Scopes: When paused display the paused contents instead of the Hippo gfx.
  • MED/OctaMED: Display song length and channel count for multichannel modules.
  • Patternscope now supports MED and OctaMED modules, up to 18 channels visible. "mini4" font is needed to display more than 8 channels as before.
  • STIL support added for use with the High Voltage Sid Collection.
  • PSID improvements with the updated playsid.library v1.6:
    • SIDBlaster support upgraded by Erique, now faster and much less likely to cause jams. A 68020 should be enough for normal playback, previously a faster CPU was needed.
    • reSID mode now supports playsid-style digisamples, as heard for example in tunes like "Skate Or Die" and "Arkanoid".
    • "Prefs/Play-2/reSID boost" can be used to boost the volume in reSID mode.
    • The library also now works on kickstart 1.3 in the original playback mode, no need to have a separate kick1.3 lib version.
    • Improved configuration with environment variables, if not using with Hippo.
  • MIDI file playback support:
    • "Prefs/Play-2/MIDI mode" setting chooses which mode is active.
    • Serial output mode using Alastair M. Robinson's "delimidi" player. This will use MIDI equipment connected to the serial port for playing.
    • Paula/AHI output mode using either Timidity Amiga port by Philipp Grosswiler or GMPlay by Christian Buchner.
    • Scopes, song end detection, AHI output supported.
  • Console music playback support using the "vgm2wav" application

PDF magazine: Commodore Free, issue 97
After a break of more than six years (issue 96), the English-language PDF magazine "Commodore Free" is back: as editor Nigel Parker reports, the original website was hacked via a PHP script and all files were deleted. "Scopperdive LTD" has restored the original website and updated it so that it is easier to read on mobile devices and smaller screens. Even though he suffered numerous strokes of fate during the long hiatus, he decided to revive the magazine, also encouraged by countless emails, and offers a colourful bouquet of topics on Commodore and Amiga computers in this issue. AROS: Irritating bug of the month November
Around a month ago, AROS developer Krzysztof 'deadwood' Śmiechowicz launched a new initiative including a survey: every month, a bug can be selected from a list of bugs that bother the community and have been reported in the bug tracker, which he then fixes. For the month of November, a bug that did not occur 14 years ago was fixed with 40% of the votes: Wanderer can now run CLI programmes with an argument again, so that it behaves like OS3.9. He has released an updated workbench.library V45.4 for this purpose. (dr)

Floppy disk images on PC and Mac: Greaseweazle Tools 1.16.2
Keir Fraser's "Greaseweazle" does - similar to Kryoflux - read the magnetic information on a floppy disk independently from the format used and saves as much information as possible to generate a so-called "Flux Level Image" in Supercard format (SCP), which enables reading and back-writing of copy-protected disks (amiga-news.de reported)

The adapter gets connected between a floppy disk drive - e.g. a standard 3.5" PC one - and a USB port of the PC or Mac. Version 1.16.2 of the Greaseweazle Tools provide the following changes:
  • DCP, DIM: Fix image import
  • Flux: Emit one revolution of flux where possible, rather than two

Amiga Kit: A600GS Wiki updated
In addition to the launch of a dedicated, albeit currently still empty, A600GS website for the planned games console, which will be available in the first quarter of 2024, the Wiki under the title link has also been updated. According to this, there will be two versions available: "A600GS" will be equipped with 2GB system memory and 64 GB total memory and the "A600GS+" with 4GB system memory and 128 GB total memory. The official joypad will be standard equipment, while the mouse will only be supplied with the A600GS+ or as an additional purchase. This will be required for the standard applications such as Personal Paint (PPaint) and OctaMED. Furthermore, Amibench V46 and Directory Opus 4 GPL are included in the software package. Three screenshots of the Amibench user interface are now also available, showing which icons are used.

As Matthew Leaman from AmigaKit Ltd. informs us, an agreement has also been concluded with Markus "Captain" Kaarlonen. The A600GS contains his original Amiga music tracks "Space Debris" and "Beyond Music" as well as their newer MP3 remasters and remixes. (dr)

Developer log: Platform game "Robot Jet Action"
Ten days ago we reported about Tomasz 'Carrion' Mielnik's start to port his platformer "Robot Jet Action" for the Amiga. Now he has published a first developer update (YouTube video) and describes the progress as follows:
  • Working on the first tileset for the first world of the game. What you see on the video is going to be one of the world’s graphics. Still a lot things to do, but at least the idea is here.
  • Reimplemented the fuel gauge on the bottom panel. It’s more accurate and animates smoother… and it looks cooler
  • Implemented my own fonts routine. I did that mainly to not use any workbench libraries of Amiga system.
  • Also implemented my hex to decimal conversion routine that is used to show score and (later) also lifes left
  • First initial Implementation of up-down scroll. It needs some tuning but it works.
  • The copper colors in the background started to look like some parallax effect which, most likely I will keep in the game in this form
  • sprites collisions implemented but turned off as for now
  • collisions for collecting diamonds needs tuning as they are not accurate in all cases.
  • For the copper colors I’ve implemented set of scripts to convert them from png files. This way I can simply draw them in gfx program and convert to Amiga OCS compliant copper colors. I needed this as there will be a lot of copper colors needed for levels.
  • I also have set of scripts that convert tilemaps that I create in Tiled to my own format that I use in the game.
  • Some code optimization was done because the game started to slow down on Amiga 500 configs
  • some concept works on the overall gfx and design, like for example some experiments with the panel at the bottom
  • Regarding the gfx, I usually work iteratively on it so please keep in mind that gfx is going to evolve during the development.

Turn-based strategy game: Developer version for "Settle the World"
As Christian 'TheoTheoderich' Wiegel writes, from now on the latest development version of "Settle the World" can be downloaded from the project page. The author asks that these versions not be used for public reviews or similar, as they are often poorly tested and contain features that have not yet been fully implemented. However, as updates for the stable branch of the game can only be released at longer intervals, the author hopes to receive feedback for planned or already partially implemented features by testing the developer versions. CLI command: sysvars V0.11
The sysvars command creates environment variables with system information in order to make it dependent on these, for example, in the startup sequence, which patches are included. So far there is information on the CPU and FPU, the chipset, the vertical frame rate (PAL/NTSC), Kickstart version and revision, version and revision of bsdsocket.library as well as whether the emulator UAE is used - and if so, in which version.

Die Version 0.11 provides the following changes:
  • Added the tiny tool KSGE36 to the distribution
    • Stands for KickStart greater or equal 36
    • Tests if the current OS is at least version 36 (i.e., OS 2.0)
    • Used in the test script to decide if an ENV: assign is necessary (which is for OS below 2.0) and commands have to be made resident (see below)
    • It is more or less equivalent to calling Version 36 from Workbench, with the difference that it can be freely distributed (unlike the Version command) and also works below OS 1.3
  • Improved the speed of the test script in OS1.2 and OS1.3 by putting the ECHO, IF, ELSE, and ENDIF commands into RAM (via resident if in shell)
  • The test (in test/echo-test) can be run from workbench or deployed on a bootable floppy for real Amigas. The script CreateTestDisk can be called with a device name (e.g., df1:) to create such a disk
  • Fix for AROS (here, SetVar cannot access the bsdsocket.library id string)
  • Code builds with most ASM-One flavors again.
  • Added version information so you can call Version sysvars
  • Code/comment cleanup

Web browser: IBrowse 3.0
Press release: IBrowse 3 has arrived. It's finally time to move on from IBrowse 2, which has been developed for over 20 years! IBrowse 3 makes available the previously unreleased features that were originally being worked on alongside IBrowse 2.4 (on a completely separate development branch), whilst retaining everything from IBrowse 2.5.9 and all the new developments since its release. The IBrowse 2 and 3 development branches are now fully merged, which was a complex and time-consuming task, due to considerable divergence. The process was completed methodically and carefully, in order to not compromise stability or lose any functionality. Development can now move forward without being restricted to the limitations of the IBrowse 2 framework, allowing for more substantial changes.

See the new What's new? and "History Log for full details of all the changes, but a brief summary follows:
  • IBrowse 2 and IBrowse 3 Unification
  • New Reimagined HTML Parser
  • Improved HTML Engine
  • The HTML engine has been improved with numerous layout and rendering enhancements, including tables, lists and superscript + subscript text.
  • Hotlist Multi-aliasing
  • Early Data / Zero Round Trip Time Resumption (0-RTT)
  • Better GIF Animation Playback
  • AmigaOS 3.2 Context Sensitive Mouse Pointers
  • NList GUI Consistency
  • Improved Preferences Window
  • Decompression and Image Decoding Libraries Upgraded
  • Space Saving Improve Efficiency
We hope you enjoy the new version and we look forward to adding new features and improving the HTML engine much further over the coming months.

IBrowse 3 is a free upgrade for those who registered IBrowse 2.5 (or upgraded) at the full 68K/PPC rate - existing key can be used with IBrowse 3. Users of the 68K only version of IBrowse 2.5 and older IBrowse versions will need to upgrade to unlock full functionality.

To celebrate the release of IBrowse 3, we are offering registration at reduced rates for new users (25-30% off) and upgrades (30-35% off) compared to the previous IBrowse 2.5 pricing. (dr)

Game development: IFF/ILBM exporter for Aseprite
Aseprite is an image editor that is primarily intended for drawing and animating pixel graphics for games. However, as already mentioned in our article about the dungeon crawler "The CTHUHLU Project", it is not possible to export graphics in IFF/ILBM format. To solve this problem, Prismatic Realms has now released a script to convert graphics into an IFF/ILBM file. This makes the use of additional programmes or online conversion tools unnecessary.

The project is in development. Although it should work well in most cases, it currently has no options. If anyone encounters problems or has suggestions, please contact the author for feedback. Currently there are the following limitations:
  • Images exported with this script do not currently support compression. If problems occur or the file size is too large, the author recommends loading the exported file into Deluxe Paint V and saving it again from there.
  • To be able to export an image from Aseprite, the colour mode of the sprite must be set to "Indexed" and the colour palette must consist of exactly 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 or 256 colours.
The script can be added via the menu File --> Scripts --> Open Scripts Folder. A registered version is required. (dr)

Alinea Computer: New products and firmware updates
Press release: Alinea Computer presents three new products:

Joyport Power-Adapter (power thief)

With the Joyport Power-Adapter (power thief), external 5V devices can be operated via the Amiga. The joystick port of the Amiga is looped through. A USB socket is available as an interface via which, for example, the Wodem or the KickRom-Progger can be supplied with Storm via a MicroUSB cable. According to the specification, a maximum of 50 mA current can be drawn via the joystick port of the Amiga, so no power-hungry devices such as mobile phones etc. should be connected there. The Joyport Power-Adapter is available for 9,99 Euro.

Fan power adapter

With the fan power adapter, 5V/12V fans can be supplied with power internally via the Amiga on the disc drive power cable. Available for 4,99 Euro.

Flash adapter for classic programming devices

With the flash adapter (48 pin), the KickRom flash modules can also be programmed with a classic programming device. Here, all connections are passed through 1:1. The adapter was successfully tested on a Batronix Battego II BX48. An optional zero-force base can be ordered in addition to the adapter. Available for 14,95 Euro.

Additionally, the firmware of the KickRom-Progger was updated to version 1.0.9 (changelog) and of the Amega 32 Adapter to v1.4.5 (changelog). (dr)

Floppy disk images on PC and Mac: Greaseweazle V4.1
Keir Fraser's "Greaseweazle" reads the magnetic layers of the disks independently of the used disk format and saves as much information as possible in a so called "Flux Level Image" in the Supercard-Format (SCP) which enables reading and writing copy-protected disks. Greaseweazle consists of a mikro controller board that costs only a few euros which is connected to a disks drive and then via USB to the PC. V4.1 is the very latest version, updating the V4 design with new features:
  • Larger form factor with stronger mounting holes
  • Modern USB-C connector
  • Input protections (ESD, over-current)
  • USB power isolation, allows Greaseweazle to be powered by external PSU along with drive(s)
The new version is already available in his eBay shop and should also be listed in other stores in the next few days. (dr)

Module player: NostalgicPlayer 2.1.0 for Windows
NostalgicPlayer is a program for playing Amiga music modules under Windows, based on APlayer. The development of the player had been started by the author Thomas Neumann in 1993 on the Amiga, later continued on BeOS and now on Windows (amiga-news.de reported). Changes of version 2.1.0:
  • Some synthesis sounds in StarTrekker did not play.
  • Made the SidSongLength reader in SidPlay more robust for syntax errors in the file.
  • When some agents was marked as disabled in the settings, they was not disabled again the next time NostalgicPlayer starts.
  • If double buffering is on and you have the settings open and showing either Formats or Players tab, then the previous module agents will not be black again when NostalgicPlayer automatically switch to the next module.
  • The sample visualizers, e.g. Oscilloscope and Spectrum Analyzer, only shows 20 ms of sample data each frame. The audio core output agent have a latency of 200 ms, which means the visualizers only show the last 20 ms. That could be visible sometimes, depending on the music playing. Now the audio core agent latency has been decreased to 20 ms, so all samples are visible in the visualizers now. If you experience that the sound stutters and you do not mind the scopes are not that precisely, you can try to increase the latency in the Core Audio settings.
  • Added new option in the Core Audio output agent to set the latency between 20 and 200 ms.
  • Can now show pictures if available in the module information window. The following formats supports this at the moment: MP3, Ogg Vorbis and FLAC.
  • Wrote my own control to display comments and lyrics in the module information window. Now each line is right under each other and special characters are displayed correctly. This makes graphics made in e.g. comments look as they should.
  • Moved some of the options in the settings window into its own Modules tab.
  • Added a new option telling the order on how to activate tabs in Module Information window.
  • Updated libFLAC to version 1.4.3, which now support 32-bit formats for both decoding and encoding.
  • Updated Ancient to version 2.1.1.
  • Updated NAudio to version 2.2.0.
  • Updated SharpCompress to version 0.34.0.
  • Added these new module formats: Audio Sculpture and OggMod.
  • Added Xmp player, which uses the libXmp library. Then moved these formats from MikMod to Xmp, which should play them more correctly: Asylum, Composer 669, Digital Sound And Music Interface, Digital Sound Interface Kit, Farandole Composer, FastTracker II, General DigiMusic, Imago Orpheus, Impulse Tracker, Scream Tracker 2, Scream Tracker 3, Scream Tracker Music Interface Kit, UltraTracker, Unis 669 and Unreal Music File.
  • Renamed Asylum to Asylum Music Format.
  • Renamed Unreal Music File to Epic Games UMX.
  • Renamed Digital Sound Interface Kit to Digital Sound Interface Kit RIFF.
  • Removed MikMod converter and player. This also removes support for UniMod modules. They couldn't be played correctly anyway, so I guess no harm is done by that.
An installation package can be found on Microsoft Store. (dr)

Development tool: vasm 1.9f
Frank Wille has published an update of the modular assembler vasm. Changes of version 1.9f:
  • Fix relative section offset directives, which must be unsigned to work correctly over the whole target's address space.
  • Fixed a few issues with named macro arguments.
  • Do not warn about missing references to Common or Weak symbols.
  • Binary output modules allow addresses outside of the backend's address space.
  • m68k: MOVEM (An),An/Am must not be optimized into two MOVE instructions. This was a new bug in V1.9e.
  • std-syntax: Fixed binary constant 0b...., which was erroneously mistaken for a one-digit temporary label destination since V1.9a.

Creating Amiga Reaction GUIs: ReBuild 0.10 (alpha version)
Darren 'dmcoles' Coles is in the process of writing a remake of ClassMate called "ReBuild", which should make it possible to write graphical user interfaces for ReAction, the evolution of ClassAct.

When asked about the motivation behind this project, the developer explained that ClassMate is only available in a demo version without a save function and with very limited options. He had asked around and could not find a registered version, so it seems to be lost. He had therefore decided to develop a new tool based on the original design.

This version is completely written in Amiga E and already has more functions than the original, for example:
  • multiple window capability
  • C and E code generation
  • temporary copy buffer
  • menus are shown on the preview window
  • much more flexible system of reordering the gadgets
In the past, he continues, he has used MUIBuilder to help create MUI code, and he felt that something similar for ReAction would be useful for himself as well as other developers. Currently, his tool does not yet support the newer Reaction gadgets, but there are plans to add them.

The next steps involve first reviewing all the current code to ensure that the application runs correctly on the standard Amiga screen resolution as currently some settings pages do not fit. Then the gadgets not supported in ClassAct will be added. The developer would appreciate help to test the generated C code with different compilers (currently only with SAS C). An icon is also needed, which he would like to put in the hands of capable graphic designers/artists.

Dungeon Crawler: "The Cthulhu Project" (DevLog 1)
Maurice Doerr is not only a photographer, but has also been a passionate Amiga user since 1987. Over the years he has owned several models such as the A500, A600, A1200 and the CD32 and programmed in Assembler, AMOS, Amiga E and Blitz Basic. After a long break and separation from all hardware, he returned to the Amiga about a year ago and started programming his first "Dungeon Crawler Oldschool" game based on the Lovecraft universe in AMOS PRO.

Since then, he has provided insights into the current state of development in numerous YouTube videos. Yesterday, he published the first part of a DevLog series under the title link, in which he provides general information about the project.

As he explained to us, he chose AMOS PRO because it was the perfect tool to develop these kinds of games on the Amiga. He uses Aseprite on the PC for pixel art graphics. The only weak point is that it can't handle IFF, which is why he wrote a BMP -> IFF converter to allow a smoother and faster workflow. Basically, his game engine is already very advanced, but features such as sound, which he does not compose himself, are still missing. (dr)

MorphOS: Web browser Wayfarer 6.6
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek has released version 6.6 of his Wayfarer web browser for MorphOS. Do it yourself: Revision 4.0.1 of N2630 expansion board for Amiga 2000
Parallel to his project of a replica of the A2000 motherboard in ATX form factor, "Amiga-2000-ATX" (amiga-news.de reported), the developer Jason 'jasonsbeer' Neus has another one : the N2630 is a further development of the original Commodore A2630 expansion card, offering an Amiga 2000 a 50MHz Motorola 68030 CPU card with additional RAM and IDE device connector, and is installed in the CPU slot (amiga-news.de reported).

The now published documents of the new production revision 4.0.1a/b offer two interesting changes: on the one hand revision 4.0.1b supports the 68882 PGA footprint and revision 4.0.1a the PLCC footprint. On the other hand, the new revision supports the original German A2000 computer (the left side of the board should be marked with "Made In Germany" and "(C) 1986 Commodore"; then it is not a cost-reduced Amiga 2000 board), but this could not be tested yet.

New firmware has also been released. Some bugs have been fixed and the latest firmware is faster and more stable. The following hardware has been tested and works well with the latest firmware:
  • A2000 Rev 4.x
  • A2000 Rev. 6.x
  • A2000 EATX
  • A2088
  • A2286
  • A2091
  • RIPPEL
  • Oktagon SCSI
  • WordSync
  • GottaGoFastRam
  • Freeway Pro
  • XSurf 100
  • Ariadne
  • GBAPII+
  • Opal Vision
  • Picasso
  • ACE2b Chip-Erweiterung
