Textanzeiger: EvenMore 0.84
EvenMore ist ein mit ECX in Amiga E geschriebener Textanzeiger von Chris Perver. Zu den Änderungen in der Version 0.84 zählt, dass der Text auf Systemen mit Grafikkarte in Echtfarben gerendert wird, was zu einer Beschleunigung führt.

AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition wird ausgeliefert
Pressemitteilung: Brüssel, 18. Emulator: WinUAE 3.0.0 mit PowerPC-Emulation
Der bekannte Amiga-Emulator WinUAE liegt jetzt in der Version 3.0.0 vor. Die herausragendste Neuerung ist die zuvor bereits in Betaversionen bereitgestellte Emulation einer PowerPC-Turbokarte.
New emulated hardware:
- PPC CPU emulation. CyberStorm PPC and Blizzard PPC boards emulated
using QEMU PPC core, on-board SCSI supported
- Other accelerator boards emulated (Blizzards, CyberStorms, Warp
Engine, TekMagic, A2630), including on-board SCSI if available

Bugs fixed:
- 68060 with "Unimplemented CPU emu" checkbox ticked: 68060 only unimplemented instructions were not emulated normally
- Screenshot with D3D shader filter enabled always took filtered screenshot
- SCSI CD READ CD command only worked if audio track was first track of CD
- Hard reset didn't reset map rom loaded KS ROM data
- AGA sprites in borders were clipped incorrectly in some situations (2.8.0)
- Autofire always on mode crashed
- PCMCIA IDE emulation was broken long time ago
- uanet.device + slirp combination was unusable
- Directory filesystem statesave support open file path handling fixed
- AVI audio recording always used PCM mode

AROS: AEROS für Amiqube erhältlich
Für den amiqube ist nun auch die Linux-gehostete AROS-Distribution AEROS erhältlich - entweder direkt beim Hardware-Anbieter unter dem Titellink oder über den indieGO!-Appstore.
Beim amiqube handelt es sich um die CuBox-i (Wikipedia), einen ARM-basierten Minicomputer. Der Prozessor ist ein i.MX6 Dual Lite. Der amiqube wird nach eigenen Angaben von Amidore Inc. vermarktet, auch über drei Läden in Florida, USA. Dahinter steht das italienische Unternehmen Formato Media SRL mit Sitz in Rom. (snx)

ACube Systems: L2-Cache-Programm für den Sam460/AmigaOne 500
Bereits vor einer Woche hat ACube Systems ein kleines Programm für Besitzer eines Sam460ex- oder Sam460cr-Boards veröffentlicht, mit dem sich das Schreiben in den L2-Cache ein- und wieder ausschalten lässt.
Standardmäßig schaltet AmigaOS 4 das Schreiben in den L2-Cache des Sam460-Prozessors aus, um eine Inkohärenz zwischen L2-Cache und Hauptspeicher zu vermeiden. Auf eigene Gefahr kann das Schreiben in den L2-Cache aktiviert werden, es wird jedoch empfohlen, dies bloß vor dem Start leistungsintensiver Anwendungen (z.B. dem Anschauen eines Films) zu tun und es danach wieder abzuschalten.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass das Aktivieren des L2-Schreibzugriffs zur Systeminstabilität und/oder Datenverlusten führen kann. Andererseits meldet Ragemem mit dem Programm einen Geschwindigkeitszuwachs von rund 35 % bei den L2-WRITE32/WRITE64-Tests, und manche Anwendungen können ebenfalls schneller werden (bei MPLayer beispielsweise sind es bei manchen Videos drei bis fünf Prozent).

A-EON Technology erwirbt Aladdin 4D
A-EON Technology hat für die AmigaOS-Version des Raytracing- und Animationsprogramms Aladdin 4D den Quellkode und die Rechte zur Weiterentwicklung erworben. Versionen für MorphOS und AROS werden nicht ausgeschlossen, die Rechte für Nicht-Amiga-Betriebssysteme verbleiben bei DiscreetFX.
Nach Bemühungen, den Quellkode von Greg Gorbys Programm offenzulegen, hatte 2007 stattdessen DiscreetFX die Rechte von Nova Design gekauft. (snx)

AmigaOS 4/MorphOS: Bounty zur Altivec-Optimierung von MPlayer
Konstantinos 'feanor' Margaritis wäre bereit, die PPC-Portierung von MPlayer für die in den G4-, G5- und PA6T-Prozessoren verbaute Altivec-Einheit zu optimieren, falls 1000 Euro an Spenden gesammelt werden. Ein entsprechendes Bounty wurde jetzt bei bountysource.com eröffnet.
Ziel der Optimierung ist es, den mit h264 kodierten Trailer des Kinofilms Prometheus in einer Auflösung von 1920x1080 Punkten ruckelfrei auf einem X1000 abzuspielen - derzeit werden bei höchster Bildqualität rund 18 statt der benötigten 24 Bilder pro Sekunde erreicht. Ob eine Altivec-Optimierung die Performance um 33% steigern kann und wie viel Effekt sie auf schwächeren Prozessoren hätte, kann der Programmierer derzeit nicht abschätzen.
Für welche Systeme lauffähige Versionen abgeliefert werden müssen wird in der Bounty-Beschreibung nicht erwähnt. Margaritis besitzt keine OS4-kompatiblen Rechner, an echter Hardware steht ihm lediglich ein Powerbook G4 zur Verfügung. (cg)

AROS: Icaros Desktop Update 2.0.1
In Version 2.0.1 von Paolo Bessers AROS-Distribution Icaros Desktop wurden diverse Fehler bereinigt, außerdem kann "AmiBridge" den Emulator Janus-UAE jetzt wahlweise mit AmigaOS 3.X (aus einer Amiga Forever-Distribution) oder AROS-m68k betrieben werden.
Die Änderungen im Detail:

Mit InstallerGen können Entwickler für ihre Programme auf einfache Weise Installationsskripte für den Commodore-Installer erstellen. Das Programm verfügt über eine MUI-Oberfläche. Vorausgesetzt werden AmigaOS 3.0 sowie die MUI-Klasse NList.mcc.

Retro-Gaming: WHDLoad 18.0
Mit WHDLoad lassen sich Spiele und Szene-Demos, die nur für den Diskettenbetrieb gedacht waren, auf einer Festplatte installieren. Außerdem werden zahlreiche Inkompatibilitäten mit neueren Amiga-Modellen beseitigt.
Änderungen in Version 18.0:
- fix:WHDLoad lock up happen when FullChip/S is used and
exec.MaxLocMem is equal to BaseMemSize fixed
- fix:ExpChip/S and FullChip/S cannot be enabled together, if both
are set FullChip/S will be silently disabled (Psygore)
- chg:option NoTrapHandler/S has been removed
- fix:race condition fixed which sometimes caused a 'Privilege
Violation Exception' when a Resload function was called from
Usermode and got interrupted during the internal switch to
Supervisor mode and then trace exception was used from the
installed program, seen especially in installs using kick13
emu and performing a lot of disk io, fixes issue #2094 and
connected ones
- chg:the log file created by the FileLog/S facility has been
renamed from .whdl_filelog to .whdl_log
- new:function resload_Log which puts custom messages into the log
file .whdl_log, uses the same file as the FileLog/S facility
and requires that FileLog/S option is set so that messages
will be written
this function is intended to make it easier to debug/follow
alien code by adding trace messages to dump the execution
state at useful places
- new:option LogBuffer/K/N to control the size of the internal

implementation was planned since years, it was a lot of work
becausethe handling is very different to the 68030 und 68060,
although I'm unsure if this feature will be used much, I'm
happy to have it completed now
- chg:option ChkAudPt/S is also supported on the 68030 and 68040 now
- chg:the interrupt redirect feature of ACA500/Zeus is not used when
option NoVBRMove/S is set
- chg:PreloadSize/N will also be set by WHDLoad if ws_DontCache is
used in the Slave
some more end user related improvements are planned for the next
release :-)
