Wget 1.12 Rev. 2
Wget is a free command line program of the GNU-projects for downloading files from the Internet. Diego Casorran has ported updated versions for AmigaOS 3.x and AmigaOS 4.

Changes:
  • src/connect.c: Fixed connect_to_ip() function to report correct message on failed connections.

  • src/host.c: Reworked gethostbyname_with_timeout() to directly handle our TCP/IP Stack's gethostbyname() disabling C linklib SIGINT signal in the meanwhile and using Exec's way
  • src/openssl.c: Changed close() by CloseSocket()
  • src/log.c: avoid fclose() over stderr
  • OS3 Build Compiled using OpenSSL 1.0.0a (Rev#2)
  • Fixed CTRL+C handling under OS4 - Thanks to Corto for the fix!

OpenSSL 1.0.0a Rev#2
The OpenSSL Project is a collaborative effort to develop a robust, commercial-grade, full-featured, and Open Source toolkit implementing the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL v2/v3) and Transport Layer Security (TLS v1) protocols as well as a full-strength general purpose cryptography library.

The AmigaOS-port is completely native, the ixemul.library is not required. Developer documenations are part of the distribution. The latest version "Rev#2" includes some minor improvements:
  • Compiled using GCC 3.4.0 for better speed (please report any issue, i didn't trust so much this compiler)
  • Optimized bzero/bcopy/memmove/memcpy functions to achieve a somewhat faster speed. (libnix)
  • Implemented alarm() to perform the tests, we'll no longer have to wait those long times
  • Time spent on speed tests are now calculated using ReadEClock()
  • OPENSSL_assert() will now open a ReAction/Intuition requester (usefull for WB-only progs)
  • Enabled MD2 and RC5 which was disabled by default..
  • Added 68040 build (user and dev)
  • Added new set of root certificates
  • Included Installation script

AmigaOS 4: ffmpeg 0.6
The latest version 0.6 of the program ffmpeg is now available as common and Altivec-optimized version (as gpatch-file) for AmigaOS 4.

Sine the last version for AmigaOS 4 the following formats were added: Deluxe-Paint-animationa, CD-graphics, Apple Core Audio, Chinese AVS-video, Adobe film strip, Dolby TrueHD, Sony Wave64, Psygnosis YOP, VP8-Video, WMA 9 Professional, Blu-Ray-Audio, DivX-subtitle, the WebM file format, RTMP-stream support and many more.

According to the author Michael Trebilcock ffmpeg could run under AmigaOS 4.0. But ffplay requires a fast processor as well as probably AmigaOS 4.1 Update 1.

x264 encoding is broken and has bad quality, but has been included anyway. It may work properly on machines with Altivec support. This is yet to be tested..

ffmpeg 0.6 and libx264 revision 100 have incompatible default settings. Due to this, .ffpreset files can be used and are included. libx264 encoding was not available in the previous OS4 port. No functionality has been lost.

Software-News: EvenMore 0.68, Amiga Media Center Preview-Video

Text viewer: EvenMore 0.68 (5.7.10)

Chris Perver's EvenMore is a text viewer written in AmigaE. Changes since our last message:
  • Amended EvenMore executable to allow you to pass an extra filename on to the plugins. If you click on a link beginning with a #, EvenMore will pass this link on to the plugins along with the path to the currently opened file. This will allow EvenMore plugins to browse inside archives while still keeping a note of the actual file being accessed.
  • Amended Arc2Text.plugin to browse LHA files, although there are still some bugs, the code needs to be optomised and files cannot yet be extracted.
  • Fixed bug in filetypes plugin. Was incorrectly using pattern string as the buffer as well for the pattern parsing function.
  • Created a basic LHA viewing plugin and preferences. You will need to delete the #?.lha filetype from the filtypes.txt file in order for this plugin to work.
  • Hyperlinks to files no longer needs full path to be specified. EvenMore will append the path of the currently viewed file to any linked files. Also amended Dir2Text plugin so that it does not use full paths any more. This should speed things up.
  • Mariusz Danilewicz of the ATO team has kindly updated the Polish catalog.
  • Removed patternStringF module and replaced with my own RawDoFmt() code.

XPro Software: Interested in Amiga-version of texture collections? (Update)
The Italian developer XPro Software is thinking about an Amiga version of his texture libraries about materials, sky, trees and trees from the bird's-eye view if there is sufficient interest.

By request of amiga-news.de, XPro Software told that such a Amiga version would not only include IFF-conversions and a "cover in Amiga style" but would also do not cost so much money in order to promote applications on Amiga systems.

The company tries to find out if there is a demand of professional applications in the sections graphics, construction, architecture and 3D.

If you are interested in such an Amiga version of the texture collection of XPro Software then please use the following contact form.

Update: (19:14, 04.07.10, snx)
As XPro Software told us, in case of sufficient interest in the Amiga market for their products also porting of their applications GeniuX Photo EFX and GeniuX Arch EFX (without DWG support) as well as two further programs currently in development might be possible. 3D GeniuX, however, would be too big to be ported to AmigaOS, MorphOS or AROS currently. AmigaOS 4: Aquaria ported (beta version)
Aquaria (screenshot) is a commercial 2d-action-adventure published by Bit Blot for Windows, Mac OS and Linux. Andrea Palmatè has ported this game also to AmigaOS 4 which can be downloaded as beta version under the title link.

The archive includes the demo version of the game. The complete version must be bought from Bit Blot.

System requirements:
  • An Amiga NG (SAM, micro-A1, A1, Pegasos 2)
  • 512 MB of RAM (1 GB reccomended)
  • A video card with at least 64 MB of RAM (128 MB recommended to play the game correctly)
  • Latest SDL library (included in the package)
  • OpenAL (the included one does cause an error at exit of the program)
  • MiniGL 2.2 (included in the package)
Known problems:
  • If you have a system with 512 MB and 64 MB video RAM, it is better to close all programs before running Aquaria. Use also a 16 Bit Workbench screen with compositing effects off to save Video RAM
  • You could get trashed textures in the menu (and also during the game). This means that you are out of memory (video and/or system). The game is still playable but you should free something before continuing to play. A video card with 128 MB of RAM should cure all problems. Otherwise, if this happens you can close the game and restart from a saved location
  • When you push escape key during the game the machine could freeze. I don't know why but i have nothing on the serial debug output and I don't know why it does freeze

Videos and pictures of VCF, AmigaOne X1000 Status
On Saturday in Bletchley (Great Britain) the 25th anniversary of the Amiga was celebrated. Meanwhile some pictures (1, 2, 3, 4) and videos (Youtube: 1, 2, 3, 4) were published which focus on Sam460 and AmigaOne X1000 computers. On both computers AmigaOS 4 was demonstrated.

According to Trevor Dickinson of A-EON during his presentation of the AmigaOne X1000 (Youtube: part 1, part 2), AmigaOS 4 runs on the computers for a while but only as of recently the computer boots from a harddrive. The price of the complete system will be about 1800 Euro.

On pictures and videos it is to be seen that the graphic output is very slow and that PCI-based model is used. According to Stéphane "sg2" Guillard from the AmigaOS 4-team on amigaworld.net this is not a general driver problem: his X1000 has a PCIe-Radeon graphic board and SATA-drives. (cg) (Translation: dr)

A-EON Technology: Varisys hardware partner
Press release:

A-EON and Varisys announce partnership

London, 17th June 2010 - A-EON Technology CVBA and Varisys Ltd., are pleased to announce their partnership in the development of the AmigaOne X1000 hardware platform for AmigaOS.

Varisys Ltd. were identified as the ideal hardware partner for the ambitious project to create a new, genuinely modern computer system to run AmigaOS 4.x in late 2008, even before the formal creation of A-EON Technology. In early 2009, Varisys Ltd. began work on developing a new PowerPC based motherboard, codenamed Nemo, which would form the heart of the new AmigaOne X1000 computer.

After months of design and testing, Varisys delivered the first Nemo prototypes in late 2009 and have now completed a Revision 2 design, which will be supplied to beta testers under the recently announced Extended Beta Test Program.

A-EON Technology director Trevor Dickinson said: "We are very pleased to reveal Varisys as our AmigaOne X1000 hardware partner. They have a proven track record for delivering high quality products on time and to budget. Their extensive experience with PowerPC and parallel processing solutions makes them our ideal technical partners, and with their help we can revitalise the AmigaOne platform".

Varisys Managing Director Paul Gentle said: "We are equally pleased to be working with A-EON Technology and we believe our previous background and experience will prove vital in helping to make the AmigaOne X1000 a success." Adam Barnes, Varisys co-founder, added: "The Nemo motherboard design introduced some new and interesting technical challenges but we are extremely pleased with the results. Revision 2 of the Nemo board has recently been completed and will form a solid foundation for the A1-X1000 and beyond."

Visitors to the VCF Exhibition at Bletchley Park on Saturday, June the 19th, will be able to meet some of the Varisys team on the joint A-EON Technology / Hyperion Entertainment stand.

About Varisys Ltd.
Varisys is a producer of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products and provider of bespoke hardware design and manufacturing services for industrial and embedded computing applications. The High Wycombe, UK, based company was founded in 2000 by Paul Gentle and Adam Barnes, and since then has earned a reputation for delivering high-quality products with a specialisation in PowerPC and FPGA hardware. Varisys have customers in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, military applications and telecommunications, and are perhaps best known for their development of the PowerPC G4 motherboard used in the immensely popular WholeHog III lighting control console. Firefox port: Timberwolf Alpha 1 for AmigaOS 4
Hans-Jörg and Thomas Frieden have published a first alpha version of the Firefox port. The authors point out that that this alpha version "crashes very often" and is very slow.

The first launch of the application takes a lot of time. Besides the window is much bigger than screen - in order to make it smaller you can use the keyboard shortcut CTRAL-ALT and the mouse.

Known bugs: Mostly menus are shown properly but the entries cannot be chosen with the mouse. With "Alt" and the a character you can open a certain menu. With the cursors and Return you can choose a menu. "Boxes" on websites are not shown properly and may destroy the graphical user-interface of the browser. (cg) (Translation: dr)
