Alinea Computer: TV-Port and OmniPort EX available
Press release: Alinea Computer is very pleased to present two versions of the TV-Port and the OmniPort EX. Both products are port expansion boards that can be easily combined with each other.

TV-Port

The TV port is an interface board for every Amiga 600/1200 from which the TV modulator has been removed. The free space allows a hardware interface on the Amiga 600/1200 desktop case to be neatly routed to the outside. The following interfaces are available: 1x USB, 1 x HDMI FFC, HDMI Indivision MK2cr/MK3 or 1x Micro-SD. The TV port can be easily installed in the Amiga 600/1200 using the mounting block supplied.
The basic version of the TV port can be purchased for between ¤9.99 and ¤14.99, depending on the variant.

OminPort EX and OminPort EX for Vampire 2

The OmniPort EX is an extended version of the OmniPort multiport adapter - as reported earlier - which leads various hardware interfaces on the Amiga 1200 desktop case cleanly to the outside via the expansion port. The following interfaces are led out in the standard version: 2x USB (USB card), 1 x HDMI (IndivisonMK2cr/MK3) and 1x Micro-SD (SD2IDE).

The OmniPort EX for the Vampire 2 has the following interfaces: 2x USB (USB card), 1x HDMI (Vampire 2) and 1x network (Vampire 2).

The special feature of the EX version is that the motherboard can be equipped with an additional piggyback board. Boards for 1x USB, 1x Micro-SD, 1x HDMI for Indivision MK3 or 1x HDMI FFC with ribbon cable clamp connection are available here. The piggyback board can be easily installed in the Amiga 1200 together with the motherboard using the mounting block supplied.

In order to be able to use the respective interfaces on the TV port or OmniPort EX, the corresponding hardware must already be installed in the Amiga 600/1200.

Suitable cables and adapters are available as standard or as an option.

The basic version of the OmniPort EX can be purchased from 26.95 Euro. The optional piggyback boards range from 9.99 Euro to 14.95 Euro. The basic version of the OmniPort EX Vampire 2 can be purchased from 35.95 euros. The optional piggyback boards range from 9.99 euros to 14.95 euros. (dr)

Video tutorial: Creating a vertical scrolling demo with Scorpion Engine
Erik 'earok' Hogan has posted on YouTube a recording of a Twich stream showing how to create a vertically scrolling demo from scratch on the Amiga (and Sega Mega Drive) using the Scorpion Engine.

As the developer explains, the Amiga has no native support for column scrolling, but it does have the ability to display sprites with infinite height, which makes it possible to emulate the effect. The demo versions for the Amiga and the Sega Mega Drive look the same, but the setuo is fundamentally different. (dr)

Video tutorial: The Blitz Basic tool "Drawer Helper"
Rob 'daedalus2097' Cranley has streamed another part of his Blitz Basic tutorial on Twitch (amiga-news.de reported) and made it available on YouTube: this time he dedicates himself to his second contribution to the Amiga Tool Jam after Closer, the tool "Drawer Helper" which is currently under development.

The basic idea of the Commodity is to integrate a little of the functionality of Directory Opus into the Workbench. When a window is open, pressing F1 gives a small toolbar and thus the functionality to, for example, refresh the window, create/delete a folder or insert files. (dr)

AmigaOS 4: USB Audio 2 Recording and Playback with "USBAudio2
Lyle Hazelwood had already worked intensively on audio playback under AmigaOS 4 in the past: he had completed a USB-CAMD-MIDI driver, further developed the MIDI sequencer BarsnPipes for AmigaOS 4 or published various MIDI libraries and tools. Now he has written "USBAudio2", a small tool that supports USB devices with the "audio protocol 2" of the USB standard. It should now be possible to operate webcams, for example. The tool is controlled via the shell by means of three commands for playing and recording or displaying the input level. (dr)

Event: Further informationen on AmiWest 2023
From 12 to 15 October 2023, AmiWest 2023 will take place in Sacramento, California. Now the organisers have published further information:

"The AmiWest 2023 is coming fast! Going strong since 1998, this year will be the 26th year of the longest-running Amiga-focused show in the world. Set in Sacramento, CA, the Sacramento Amiga Computer Club and a dedicated group of volunteers host the event.

Kicking off on October 12th is the AmiWest Developer Conference. AmiWest has been hosting a DevCon for about a decade. This is two days of focused learning and sharing from experts worldwide on the latest AmigaOS developments, and this year will be no different. Hosted by Steven Solie, lead developer on the ExecSG team, the DevCon will cover various AmigaOS flavors, discussing topics like debugging, DMA routines, and more.

The main exhibition opens at 10:00 AM on Oct 14th. Trevor Dickinson of A-Eon will launch the show with A-Eon news and announcements. Following Trevor will be a full schedule of speakers from across the globe. Speakers include RJ Mical (original Amiga dev), Michal Schulz (author of EMU68k ), and more. For those who cannot make it, we will livestream the day on YouTube. All the details are on the AmiWest webpage.

The exhibit hall will feature over 10 exhibitors. Many returning friends of the show, like Doug Compton of 10 MARC and Mr. Toast. We also expect Matthew Leaman of AmigaKit to return to the show for the first time since 2017. Also joining us for the first time is Ricardo Quesada with his UniJoySticle2 product. A full list of exhibitors is posted on the AmiWest website.

The banquet starts at 7 PM on Saturday, October 14th, featuring Garry Hare, Ph.D. He was the CEO of Amiga Inc. from 2003 to 2005, directly following Bill McEwen. You can read more about Garry's involvement in the latest edition of "From Vultures to Vampires" volume two. Garry will provide unique insights into Amiga's history from a rarely heard voice.

The SACC Sales Table will be back, offering a variety of Amiga parts, books, and software. There will also be some complete Amiga classic systems for sale! We expect to have on sale an A2000 and an A500, possibly more.

The show will also have a raffle filled with cool gadgets for all your computers. After you grab your raffle tickets, be sure to stop by the game's competition table and give Knightmare a spin for a chance to win this year's trophy.

Keep an eye on the AmiWest blog for the latest update on the show. In 1994, folks said the Amiga was dead. Boy, were they wrong!" (dr)
