Workbench replacement: X-bEnCH 0.81 (beta)
X-bEnCH is a graphical user-interface with up to 128 colours which replaces the Workbench for starting WHDLoad-games (.slave, .exe) and and uses low computer resources. According to the developer the programm works on all Amigas (OCS to AGA) with 68000 to 68060 processors and uses little virtual memory.
Changes in this release:
- Fixed the fade to black issue on init. (Should work now with highgfx mode)
- Fixed the refresh timing speed with fast cpu.
- Fixed the display redraw bug in the Prefs when switching tabs.
- Added the "Main Menu" prefs tab.
- Added an on/off switch for the main menu music.
- Added an on/off switch for the main menu starfield. (usefull if your migy is a bit too slow.)

Oliver Roberts ha updated his Warp-Datatype for PNG-graphics for AmigaOS, AmigaOS 4, WarpOS and MorphOS.
Changes:
- Fixed bug in the decoding of 32-bit RGBA interlaced images, when ALPHA_MODE was set to KEEP, which corrupted pixels down the left edge of the image
- Faster decoding of 32-bit RGBA interlaced images
- Updated with libpng 1.5.13 and zlib 1.2.7

AmigaOS 4: Dragon-/Tandy-Emulator XRoar 0.29.1
XRoar ported by Ventzislav Tzvetkov emulates the 8-Bit-systems Dragon and Tandy TRS-80 Color Computer. A minimal firmware is included in the archive but for real compatibility a ROM-image of the emulated computers is required.

- Fixed emulation of Dragon 32 with 64K

- black or white USB keyboard and all the screws, nuts, washers & spacers
- rubber feet
- on/off switch
- LEDs
- custom made steel DVD and 3.5" USB card reader brackets
- slim SATA DVD-RW drive with SATA cable
- 3.5" USB card reader (52in1)
- one 40mm silent fan

MorphOS 3.2 Software Development Kit (Beta)
The MorphOS-team has released version 3.2 of the Software Development Kit. The update includes an updated version of the compiler environment called "Geek Gadgets" (GCC, Bash and GNU-tools) and the latest MorphOS-includes with documentation. Additionally some minor bugs have been fixed.
This release is still a beta version. At least MorphOS 3.1 is required.

Curiosity: Rare A1000-keyboard developed by Cherry
At the British ebay an onknwon keyboard version for the Amiga 1000 has been turned up: A keyboard of the "G80"-production by Cherry which has a typical A1000 RJ-11-plug and which partly copies the special layout of the original keyboard.
Obvioulsy the offerer knows that he has curiosity: The bid starts with 200 US-Dollar. If you want to buy it now then 777 USD have to be paid.

AmigaOS 4: AbiWord 2.8.6 for AmiCygnix
For the X11-environment AmiCygnix an update of the word processing software AbiWord has been released (Screenshot). Most important changes in this version:
- New version 2.8.6 with many new features compared to the last version 2.6.2.
- Gnumeric spreadsheets can now be embedded into an AbiWord document. You can
load and edit existing spreadsheets or create new ones. Gnumeric 1.10.17 is
integrated into AbiWord for this. You don't need to install the standalone
package of Gnumeric!
- With the new plugin "OpenXML" you can now load and save documents in .docx
format (MS Word 2007+)..
- Compiled with GTK+ 2.24.
- Several bugfixes.
The Amiga version also loads ILBM-pictures, German and English catalogs for spell checking are included in the archive. AbiWord requires AmiCygnix 1.2.

AROS: Icaros Desktop 1.5
In version 1.5 of Paolo Besser's AROS-distribution Icaros Desktop the files layout, the installation process as well as the the emulation environment have been completely overhauled. The emulation environment now starts ADF-images as well as harddrive-based applications without requiring the original Kickstart-files.
Icaros 1.5 now is based on the latest AROS-kernel ("ABI v1 Backport") which is supposed to provide improved speed, compatibility and stability. For users who have problems with this kernel a "Legacy Kernel Edition" of Icaros is avilable.

TCP stack: full version of Roadshow on sale now
Press release: Starting today, the full version of the Roadshow TCP/IP stack is available to buy through the APC&TCP online store. Roadshow is an Amiga TCP/IP stack, that allows you to connect to the Internet, to access your e-mail, web pages, chat, etc. It can also be used to access and exchange files within your local home network.

- Now the listings fatters than 1920 files are working fines
- Xsetup code heavily reworked
- Startup tab added to the setup
- Added the Del key switch option

ACube Systems: Minimig and ARM-controllers available again
The Minimig which is a FPGA-reimplementation of an Amiga 500 and originally developed by Dennis van Weeren is available again at ACube Systems.
You can select between two boards with 2 or 4 MB RAM which are available with PIC (Peripheral Interface Controller) or without it (and then can be used with a ARM-controller which makes it possible having a writing access to disk and harddrive images).

GUI-development: MUI Royale 1.0 for Hollywood
Press release: This is it! Airsoft Softwair has saved their greatest firework for New Year's Day! MUI Royale is a plugin for Hollywood (screenshots: 1, 2, 3) that finally allows you to easily create MUI GUIs with Hollywood. MUI Royale supports over 40 MUI classes including popular third-party classes like TextEditor.mcc and TheBar.mcc. Creating and managing menustrips is also fully supported.
The plugin sets new standards concerning the ease of use because the GUI layout can be conveniently defined using an XML file that is converted into a MUI GUI by MUI Royale on the fly. GUI design has never been so easy! Of course, new features of MUI 3.9 (AmigaOS 4) and MUI 4.0 (MorphOS) are also supported.
The highlight of MUI Royale, however, is certainly its inbuilt Hollywood MUI class. This class allows dynamic embedding of complete Hollywood displays into MUI GUIs which can be used to combine the best of both worlds - MUI's proven GUI skills and Hollywood's unequalled multimedia capabilities - into one powerful application, limited by the scope of your creativity only.
MUI Royale requires at least Hollywood 5.2 and is provided free of charge for all users of Hollywood. It is available for AmigaOS 3 (m68k), AmigaOS 4 (PPC), MorphOS (PPC), and AROS (i386). The package comes with almost 20 example scripts, many of which are direct ports from the MUI 3.8 SDK by Stefan Stuntz, but there are also original developments like demonstrations of how to create a video player using the combined power of Hollywood and MUI. On top of that MUI Royale comes with extensive documentation as a 280 page PDF file which is also available in the HTML, AmigaGuide, and CHM formats thanks to the Hollywood documentation system.
All this makes MUI Royale the truly royal MUI experience, carefully crafted for you Kings and Queens of MUI!

AROS: Zod-Engine ported
Szilárd 'BSzili' Biró has ported the game engine Zod to AROS/x86 which is a remake of the game Z developed by the Bitmap Brothers in 1996. It is a SDL-based realtime online strategy game for single or multi players.

MorphOS: PowerSDL.library 15.9 (Update)
Ilkka 'itix' Lehtoranta has updated his SDL library for MorphOS. It is a bug fix release and now works also better with G5-computers.

Meanwhile by version 15.9 another update is available which fixes a bug in fullscreen mode of the game 1941 DX Dual Players.

AmigaOS 4: First adapted version of Directory Opus Magellan, mailing list
In a thread on amigans.net, Roman 'kas1e' Kargin has made available a first, to AmigaOS 4 adapted version of the file manager Directory Opus Magellan. It is still a 68k-build but which runs under PPC-operating systems.
Additionally at the Yahoogroups a mailing list for AmigaOS 4-users was established.

AmigaOS 4: Status-Updates for Warp3D and LibreOffice
According to A-EON on its website it was planned to release the Warp 3D-driver for Radeon HD-boards announced at the AmiWest this year "but circumstance beyond our control has caused some unforeseen delays."
Instead the developer Hans-Jörg Frieden has given a short status report on the development of the missing parts of the driver.
A-EON also has announced that "Thomas Frieden, the developer porting LibreOffice to AmigaOS 4, has also has made excellent progress." (cg) (Translation: dr)

MorphOS: Scriba 1.4.5 and Lector 1.0.0
Scriba is a text processing software which is still in development and written by Carsten Siegner. With the update 1.4.5 it is now possible to use the additional programm Lector which is a character recognition extension with MUI-user-interface based on GOCR 0.49.

AmigaOS 4 / MorphOS: AmiDARK-Engine 0.7
The AmiDARK-engine is described as "Game Development Kit" by Frédéric Cordier inspired by DarkGDK. It is a collection of macros and functions for C-programmers which is to make it easier to develop games.
The changes in version 0.7 for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS are listed under the title link. An AROS version will be released if the SDK will provide the necessary libraries.

Swedish magazine: Amiga Forum Nr. 3, issue 1 as PDF-download

1941 DX Dual Player 2.0 is a new port of the arcade classic 1941: Counter Attack. The SDL-based game is commercially sold, a licence key costs 1,70 Euro. Already registered users can copy their keys to the new version.

MorphOS: KwaKwa 1.1 and NVM 0.8
Filip 'widelec' Maryjañski has updated two of his MorphOS-programms. Version 1.1 of the Instant Messenger called KwaKwa supports the Gadu-Gadu-protocol and includes bug fixes and new keyboard commands. With NVM you can download YouTube-subtitles. In version 0.8 a bug in the graphical user-interface was fixed.

MorphOS: Odyssey Web Browser 1.18
Fabien 'Fab' Coeurjoly has released another update of the WebKit-engine based web browser Odyssey for MorphOS. Among others the HTML5-compatibility was increased and uploading documents to Google Docs and Drive was improved. All changes are listed in the Readme-file. As usual there is also a version without SVG-support which uses less memory.
Please note: If you have used instead of the version 1.17 from the website of the author the one from the MorphOS-CD 3.0/3.1, so please overwrite the file conf/font/fonts.conf during the installation.

MorphOS: Status report on G5-port
As a result of the bounty project two G5-PowerMacs as well as money have been donated for the port von MorphOS (amiga-news.de reported). Now there is also a first status report.

Basically the work so far has consisted of two major parts: Reorganising the Quark source code so that support for a second CPU architecture could be added and writing and testing all the code required to support the PPC64 architecture, and in particular the Powermac G5s.
The G5 is incompatible to regular PowerPC CPUs in a number of, for MorphOS, important aspects, both when it comes to the supervisor mode and the user mode. Unfortunately some of the supervisor mode incompatibilities have been done in such a way that executing code written for PPC32 on the G5 will run without errors, but subtle differences in the operation of some instructions caused problems with system stability which were hard to track down. The good news is that I believe that all of these problems have now been tracked down and the system is running stable. When it comes to user mode differences, the G5 is lacking CPU instructions which are widely used throughout MorphOS' 68k emulators. Luckily Piru did some changes there and the emulators should work fine on the G5 now, although I haven't really tested it.
So the status now is that the G5 boots to MorphOS and seems to run stable, however only USB and the on-board IDE interfaces are support by MorphOS drivers right now. The next things I will focus on is getting the on-board NIC and fan control working. Hopefully neither of those two will be particularly difficult, so that will likely be done some time this week."

MorphOS Team raffles CD-boxes on Google+
In order to advertise for the "Official MorphOS Community on Google+" the MorphOS-team raffles three MorphOS-CD-boxes with "Google+ Limited Edition"-motive. Everybody who contributes something to one of the "streams" of the MorphOS Community on Google+ until January 24th can participate. The winners will be drawn by lot and notified on January 25th.

EMail-client: YAM 2.8 for all Amiga-systems
The YAM-Open-Source-Team has released version 2.8 of the MUI-based mail programm. Among others a user now can create different "identities" and assign them to different SMTP-servers and signatures. Similar to other Mail-clients YAM now also has a folder "drafts".
You can find a detailed list of changes in the Readme-file which is included in the archive. YAM 2.8 is available for AmigaOS 3/4, MorphOS and several AROS-branches (x86, x64, PPC).

EMail-client: SimpleMail 0.39
For years in time for Christmas an update of the mail programm SimpleMail has been released, so in 2012 as well. Version 0.39 is available for Amiga 3/4, a MorphOS-port will be released soon. Changes:
- Enhancement: Filter rules may be created now from attributes common in multiple mails
- Enhancement: Supports ATTACHMENT/K/M argument for both the command line and the MAILWRITE ARexx command
- Enhancement: Included more translations
- Bug fix: Fixed memory leak
- Bug fix: Various multi selection problems

Javascript: Scripted Amiga Emulator 0.7
Rupert Hausberger's Scripted Amiga Emulator is written in Javascript and thus should run under all modern web browsers, but so far its completely supported by Chrome only.
Changes in version 0.7 (24.12.2012):
- Common:
- Chaned the project-name from 'Janus' to 'SAE' (Scripted Amiga Emulator)
- Separated the GUI form the core and rewrote most of it
- Simplified the whole code. This means, that functions are called faster
- Ported new Copper-, Blitter-, Audio-, Disk- and event-handling code from WinUAE 2.5.0
- Moved all "beam-functions" to events.js, for faster access
- Added "CPU usage" to the GUI
- Added "Hall of Fame"
- CPU:
- Added support for exact cycling. The CPU have now 7.09 MHz on PAL and 7.16 MHz on NTSC respectively
- Added option for "Original" and "Maximum" speed.
- Audio:
- Added a ring-buffer before output. No more "bagpipe"-like audio
- Added a option to just emulate the hardware, but not to play any sound, e.g. "Agony" was not starting, if audio was disabled
- Display:
- Switched from RGB to the 565 texture-format-encoding in WebGL, which gives a little more speed
- Added support and a option for 4x scaling
- Fixed screen-draging in lo-hires-modes
- Added a option to disable the output. Can be used to better play music-demos
- Disk:
- Added support for different speed-modes
- Added support for extended ADF-files
- Enabled write support (to memory)
- Input:
- The F-keys do work normaly now, i.e F5 doesn't reload the emulator, backspace doesn't go to the last page, etc.
- Fixed bug in the joystick-emulation
- New games in version 0.7:

AmigaOS 4: Gnumeric 1.10.17 for AmiCygnix
Edgar Schwan has ported a new version of the spreadsheet Gnumeric for his X11-environment AmiCygnix (Screenshot). Changes in this update:
- New version 1.10.17 with many changes compared to the previous version 1.8.4.
- A Python-package version 2.7.2 was added.
- Compiled with GTK+ 2.24.

AROS: Distribution Broadway 0.86 "redux"
Version 0.86 of Pascal Papara's AROS-distribution Broadway now is available and called "redux" (Screenshot, Video). 1 GB RAM is required (640 MB might be sufficient).
Changes since Broadway 0.8:
- Updated systemfiles including ABI v1 backports by Deadwood
- New Boot-Menu to choose from Live/Rescue-mode, Installation and Webinstaller
- Updated applications and games
- Added new wallpapers, video and music
- Added some c64 music disc to be used with Vice
- IconScale allows to choose from 64x64, 32x32 and 48x48 Iconssets, so you change iconsize depending on your device/screensize
- Games G.E.M.Z and BOH added
- UI changes: Renamed "otherOS" submenu in quickstater to "Emulation" and splitted it into "computers" and "consoles"
- Standard-Iconsize is now 48x48 pixels
- Removed all gory games. Up2date will offer from January some optional App/Game packs and a development Environment
- Upd2date (the live-updater of Broadway) isn't active at the moment because of server changes. It will be reactivated for the first update

Windows: WinUAE game management Amigula 1.5.10.2 (beta version)
The game management Amigula (Amiga Games UAE Launcher, which was iGame for Windows before) is insipred by the WHDLoad-complement iGame and allows you to directly start games with WinUAE (Screenshot).
With version 1.5 it is possible to download additional information like date of release and screenshots and to delete single games from the database.

Emulator: WinUAE 2.5.1
Version 2.5.1 of the well-known Amiga emulator WinUAE was released.
2.5.0 bugs fixed:
- 1G RTG RAM size was rejected
- Windows mouse cursor becoming visible in windowed modes
- 2.4.x and older versions allowed higher Z3/RTG total memory under 32-bit Windows
- Maprom feature crashed in JIT mode
- CDTV emulation didn't work
- Power led state was incorrect
Other bugs fixed:
- Inserting or ejecting USB game controller or mouse deleted all custom Game Ports panel configurations
- Fixed DirectDraw fullscreen mode problems if using secondary monitor positioned on left side of primary monitor
- SCSI emulation read commands returned wrong data if CD/CD image had more than one track
- Fixed mouse cursor jumping to opposite direction if it was moved to same direction long enough
- File comments and protection flags wasn't read correctly from _UAEFSDB.___ files (if non-NTFS drive)
- Windowed mode status bar had gap on Windows Vista classic theme
- Epson matrix printer emulation red and blue colors were swapped
- Lzh/lha archive MSDOS-style timestamps supported
New features:
- Directory filesystem full Amiga 1/50s datestamp resolution support, previously resolution was only 1s (NTFS and archives only)
- Mount drag'n'dropped archive file as a directory harddrive only if removable drive support is enabled, without harddrive support attempt to mount as a disk image in DF0:

Hardware: AGA-Flickerfixer ScanJuggler XAGA
For the first quarter of 2013 new models of XAGA and XAGA Lite of the Hungarian Flickerfixer ScanJuggler have been announced which have been presented for the first time four years ago.
Under the title link you can find detailed information and pictures of the Flickerfixer which is developed for Amiga 1200 and 4000. The price for abroad has not yet been set but for Hungary it will be between 18.000 and 25.000 Forint (about 65 and 90 Euro).

AROS: Doom-Engine Odamex 0.6.2
Odamex is a version of the Doom-engine which combines the features of Boom with some new ones: The widescreen format is supported and you can control it with the mouse ("mouselook"). Additionally the game character can jump. The AROS-port was written by Szilárd "BSzili" Biró.

Directory Opus Magellan: Source code available

Arcade-Puzzler: Amiganitzu
Amiganitzu (screenshot) is a clone of the DOS-classic Paganitzu developed by Apogee Software. The Amiga port of the arcade puzzle game is similar to Chip's Challenge and includes all levels of the Shareware version of the DOS-original as well as 10 new sections.
Amiganitzu should run on all Amigas with at least Kickstart 2.0 and is available as LhA-archive and as bootable Disk-image. If there are any stability problems then the author recommends to increase the stack to 50000 Bytes.

WHDLoad: New package until 15.12.2012
With WHDLoad you can install games, demos and intros which originally had to be used from disks on your harddrive. The following installation package has been added until 15.12.2012:

MorphOS: KwaKwa 1.0 and NVM 0.7
Filip 'widelec' Maryjañski has updated two of his MorphOS-programmes. Version 1.0 of the Instant Messenger KwaKwa now supports the Gadu-Gadu-protocol as well as GIF-emoticons. With NVM 0.7 you can download YouTube-subtitles and convert them to the SubRip-format.

Programming language: REBOL-3 source code released
As announced Carl Sassenrath released the REBOL-3 source code on github under the Apache-2.0-licence yesterday. This first release is meant for non-Windows systems like Linux, Mac OS X, BSD and Android.

TCP-Stack: Roadshow for AmigaOS 2/3 in January, Demo-version available
Roadshow is a TCP-stack which was ported by Olaf "Olsen" Barthels and which is used under AmigaOS 4. About 10 years ago it was intended to release another version for earlier AmigaOS. This project failed due to the lack of a graphical user-interface.
Meanwhile Barthel decided to realise the project without a GUI and instead to explain the text-based configuration files with a manual. Because Roadshow can only be run from the command line shell and the printable PDF reference document which has more than 100 pages the author and APC&TCP wrote that "Roadshow is expected to be most useful for knowledgable, experienced Amiga users rather than for beginners."
The demo version of the stack is limited to 15 minutes and is already available on the website of APC&TCP. According to Barthel the release of the full version is planned for January. The price has not yet been set but Barthel guesses it will be 20-25 Euro for the download-version and a little bit more for the CD. (cg) (Translation: dr)

AmigaOS 4: Quiz game Ask Me Up
Jérôme "Glames" Senay who also is the author of Word Me Up XXL has released a new quiz game called Ask Me Up which for the present is available for AmigaOS 4.1 - a MorphOS version is to follow during the next days.
"Ask Me Up is a video game about general knowledge. The principle is quite simple: 1 question, 4 possible answers" (screenshot). "A "dual" mode is available in L and XL editions: two players compete in turn on the same set of questions." A demo version with 80 questions is available for free.

Jump and Run: Sqrxz 2 for OCS-Amigas
At the yesterday's fourth "Retro-Börse" in Vienna the developers Retroguru have released the second part of the Sqrxz-series for Amigas with original chipset on floppy-disk.
From now on the disk image can be downloaded for free. There is also a version which can be installed on harddrive as well as a CD-image for CDTV and CD32.

Developer tool: AnnPEGCC compiles PortablE source code out of Annotate
For developers who want to compile their PortablE-programs out of the editor Annotate, Christopher Handley has released AnnPEGCC. It was tested under AmigaOS 4 and AROS but should also work under MorphOS.

Puzzle game: G.E.M.Z. 1.1 for all Amiga systems
G.E.M.Z. written by Fabio Falcucci and Pascal Papara is a commercial puzzle game. The goal of the game is to push bricks of the same colour closely together to make them disappear (screenshot, video).
In version 1.1 there are some new preferences. Additionally the programm code was highly optimized:
- Got several FPS increase in all scenes for the High and Medium detail levels
- Huge speed up in the Play screen rendering +35% for High and Medium detail levels
- Fullscreen message was corrected for Amiga, OSX and MorphOS systems (alt/cmd/amiga+enter)
- Now it's possible to turn on/off the music in the main screen and in the pause screen, this setting will be saved for the next sessions
- During language selection the you may change the details level which will be remembered for the next game sessions
- Added Swedish and Japanese translations, fixed english translation
- Corrected the sprite layers order in LOW and MIN settings
- Now all musics are encoded using OggVorbis/128Kb, this means that the
game size is now around 130Mb (depending on the version), MacOSX PPC
is still 480Mb because a bug we are trying to resolve.
- Speed up in game matrix initial rendering, madness level rendering is
much faster now
- Reduced 20% SoundFX volume
Since November 2012 G.E.M.Z. has been sold for free with all sold AresOne complete systems. If you purchase the game now and later an AresOne you will get back the money for G.E.M.Z. Purchasers of the software bundle A-Live will get a free copy of G.E.M.Z.

AmigaOS 4: GemRB 0.7.2
Andrea 'afxgroup' Palmatè has updated his AmigaOS-4-port of GemRB ("Game engine made with pre-Rendered Background"). Among other changes a SDL2-based software keyboard was added.
GemRB is a reimplementation of the Infinity Engine developed by BioWare.
