Amiga-Emulator: FS-UAE 1.3.30
Frode Solheim's FS-UAE for Windows, Mac OS X 10.5+ (i386, PPC) and Linux (i386, AMD64) is based on WinUAE and can be completely controlled with a joypad.

Please note that the paths of the repository and the downloads have been changed and the launcher-database has to be scanned again.

Changes in version 1.3.29:

Implemented fs_application_exe_path for Unix-like systems.
Data files (“share”) are now also searched relative to fs-uae executable (executabledir/share and executabledir/../share) before checking the default system locations, and no longer searched for under cwd.
Fixed problem where A key press could mysteriously appear on OS X.
Fixed bug with shader passes being multiplied on mode switch.
Link with -headerpad_max_install_names on OS X [Tobias Netzel].
(Launcher) Saving configurations is now possible.
(Launcher) Added new “default” input device options.
(Launcher) Contract paths with $BASE or $HOME if possible.
(Launcher) Automatically scan local config files (.fs-uae) on startup.
(Launcher) Net play panel must be enabled with custom setting netplay_feature = 1 (temporary for 2.0 series).
(Launcher) New icon to distinguish the launcher from FS-UAE.

Changes in version 1.3.30:

(Launcher) New list control implementation for configurations list.
(Launcher) You can now type in the config list to jump to items.
(Launcher) Configuration list items are prefixed with an icon.
(Launcher) New setup page for importing kickstarts when starting the launcher for the first time.
(Launcher) Automatically scan for rom changes in main Kickstarts folder on startup.

Finnish Amiga Users Group (ANF) Event: Photos and videos of Saku 2012
At the title link photos and videos of the Saku 2012 have been published. The Finnish Amiga User Group comment: "The event was held on September 29th in Oulu, the northern Amiga capital of Finland. The event was a success with around 70 visitors, which was achieved with proper advertisement and also promotion in other public events.

For example, we were asked to arrange some retro gaming at Oulu Arts' Night earlier this year and we got around 200 interested nostalgia gamers there. Amiga is not forgotten! Maybe we just should participate in more mainstream events to get people interested in our specific events as well.

Saku 2012 featured thirteen Amiga compatible and three Commodore 64 computers, four video projectors, several sales tables, game and programming competitions with prizes, demo and video shows and a very enthusiastic atmosphere.

Next year we aim higher with the Saku 2013 event. It will be held in southern Finland where the potential of reaching the masses is a lot higher. It will also be our 20th anniversary event. Be ready for it!

Retro-Gaming: WHDLoad 17.1
With WHDLoad you can install games, scene demos and intros on your harddrive which originally could only be used from disks. Additionally several incompatibilities with new Amiga models were fixed.

Today the final version 17.1 has been released. Additionally since our last message with Antideluvian Sloppy Spectacle (Essence), created by BlackWine (info, image) a new package was uploaded.

Changes in version 17.1:

Fix: Formatting of termination reason string in register dump fixed on very long texts (Psygore)
Fix: If the vbr is moved by WHDLoad the interrupts of levels 4-6 (vectors $70..$78) are directly forwarded to the installed program now, in previous releases all the sanity checks and checks for the keyboard were done in each interrupt which has increased the latency and duration of the interrupts, now these checks are only performed in interrupt levels 1-3 or if the option CheckInts/S is used for all levels it seems that the increased amount of code put into the interrupts by the later WHDLoad versions has caused problems with several games, this is hopefully fixed now and these games will work with the current WHDLoad as good as with versions 16.8 or 16.9
Fix: On a 68020 the default cache setup was instruction cache enable, this bug has been introduced in version 17.0, now the default is again disabled (Toni Wilen)
Chg: The icon started from is only written if any gadget has been pressed, previously it were written everytime if Config or Expert was active (Graham)
Fix: Prevented a bug when FileLog/S will be disabled via the splash window
New: Resload_DiskLoad can now dump all read files, see autodoc
New: SnoopOCS/ECS/AGA/S checks also that writes to custom.aud*ptr are not outside BaseMem and are not equal zero, check is only performed on 68060 (Psygore)
Chg: WHDLoad now detects a filesize difference between the directory scan used for resload_Examine/ExNext requested by WHDLF_Examine and the file PreLoad, this may reveal filesystem problems in conjunction with dos.ExAll, e.g. ffs 39.x (issue #2575)
Chg: Documentation regarding patch lists in include and autodoc files improved
Fix: On chip memory only machines with Kickstart 3.0 or better slaves with WHDLF_Examine failed on building the directory cache due problems with exec.CreatePool (Psygore)

Amiga.org (Webseite) AmigaOS 4: avcodec.library 53.611
As a result of the bounty project on updating the avcodec.library (amiga-news.de reported) which is donated with more than 600 Euro Diego Cassoran has released the final version 53.611. With one exception all problems have been fixed.

The avcodec.library is the AmigaOS-4-port of the ffmpeg-library libavcodec. The last version 0.10.3 was called "Freedom" and released in May this year.

Moo Bunny (Forum) A-EON Technology: Announcement of RadeonHD-driver 0.54
As planned Hans de Ruiter has added full support for AMD Radeon HD series 7 graphics card in version 0.54 of the RadeonHD-driver for AmigaOS 4.1 (update 5) which is supported by A-EON Technology.

The Internet Archive should mainly be known for its Wayback Machine which since 1996 has been taking snapshots of the current state of many websites.

Besides, many printed magazines have been scanned and made available to the general public, among others many computer magazines.

AROS: New DevPak for AmiDevCpp
The last AROS-DevPak for AmiDevCpp (amiga-news.de reported on it) all system-includes and linker-libraries were included but most of the contrib-includes and linker-libraries were missing. In this version now all these files are included.

What is AmiDevCpp?

AmiDevCpp is an Integrated Cross Platform Development Environment for Windows, that helps you to comfortable develop C/C++ Applications for the AmigaOS (m68k), AmigaOS4 (PPC), MorphOS(PPC) and for AROS (i386, ppc and x86_64). In the best case, you can just select another Compilerset and compile the same program for different Platforms.

What is a DevPak?

DevPaks are Archives, that contains Includes and Linker Libraries for some Libraries. Those files are installed and deinstalled automatically by the AmiDevCpp Package Manager:

Exec.pl (Webseite) USB-Stack: ANAIIS 1.06
ANAIIS ("Another Native Amiga IO Interface Stack") written by Gilles Pelletier is an USB-stack which also runs on systems with a 68000-processor. The stack at least requires AmigaOS 1.3 and was written for Zorro-II-systems without an accelerator board.

In this latest version the complements ANAIIS-Bootdisk and ANAIIS-HostUSB were added. ANAIIS-HostUSB was written for WinUAE and provides the access to the libusb of Windows.

02.Oct.2012 Breakout game: BabeAnoid 2.5b1
Richard Fhager's Breakout game BabeAnoid was written in AMOS and released ten years ago. In 2003 version 2.0 was released. The next version 2.5 was never released because the author stopped developing Amiga software.

Upon request of an a1k.org-reader Fhager has provided a download link for a beta version BabeAnoid 2.5. This beta version is being not developed further and according to the author possibly has included "some special modes". BabeAnoid requires a 68020 as well as 2 MB RAM. It could be also played with computers with only 1 MB Chip-RAM if some preferences are set to a lower level.

Ohloh (ANF) MUI-Klasse: NList source codes "saved"
After Jens Langner could have saved the source codes of a lot of well-known MUI-classes ten years ago with a "emergency surgery" this time he did have to get help from the open source directory ohloh.net to restore the contents of the source code repository of mcc.nlist which have been accidentally deletated on sourceforge.net.

Since July there is a swedish Amiga print-magazine again - for the first time since seven years. Now the second issue of "Amiga Forum" is available, covering MorphOS and the AmigaOne 500 among other topics. Workbench replacement: X-bEnCH 0.73 (beta version)
X-bEnCH is an Amiga game launcher with 128 colors on screen (even on a simple A500). This frontend autoscans the harddisk to find WHDLoad games or .exe files and and organizes them into launching listings. X-bEnCh also has an integrated CLI fully compatible with the Workbench CLI feature.

Version 0.73 is a bugfix release:

Fixed the display speed problem on little cpu (68000/68010) in the menu
Fixed the display speed problems on high end cpu (68040/68060) in the menu and the launcher
Fixed a bad multitasking management when launching an .exe file

AROS-Exec (forum) AROS: Distribution AspireOS 1.95
Nikolaos Tomatsidis released a new version of his AROS distribution AspireOS. It is made for the Acer netbook Aspire One, but does also fully support the Toshiba notebook Satellite Pro A200; also on other hardware the distribution should run, but this is untested.

Changes include a Wifi scanning tool, the editor Annotate, an AmigaOS 3.1 theme, new wallpapers, an optimisation of the boing icon bar and a bugfix for downloading Youtube videos. This time there is no update option for existing systems available, though, instead a fresh installation of version 1.95 is recommended. (snx)

Amiga Inc.: Bill McEwen's name spotted at BlackBerry live demo
After the official Amiga Inc. press release on availability of classic Amiga games for the BlackBerry tablet PlayBook and the upcoming smartphone BlackBerry 10 (amiga-news.de reported), a video of this cell phone's live presentation has been discovered which supports the claim of a business relationship.

At the title link, Bill McEwen's name has been spotted as a contact person on the phone. Although the corresponding photo does not depict the longtime CEO - allegedly it is the junior -, the entry is titled "Amiga". Grzegorz 'Krashan' Kraszewski has updated two of his programs - the Sudoku solver Sudominator and the software synthesizer U1Synth. Both can be also installed by Grunch now.

Sudominator had some problem with new MUI 4 transparency effect for disabled gadgets. This effect has been unnecessarily applied to the sudoku field when live solver was running, so the whole thing was unreadable. U1Synth has got an octave switch, a first small step towards changing it from a toy to a simple, yet usable synthesizer. (snx)

Zormanita is another example how the Reggae-library can be used. The source code is available under a BSD-licence. Currently Zormanita can convert AIFF-, 8SVX-, 16SV-, WAVE- and MP3-files to the formats AIFF, WAVE or RAW. Altivec is supported.

Andreas Falkenhahn (ANF) Hollywood-Plugins for Android available
Since July the development environment Hollywood also supports Google's Handheld operating system Android. Meanwhile most of the Hollywood-Plugins also are available under Android.

The plugins are available in two different versions: The so called "armeabi"-Build works with floating-point numbers in a software library similar to AmigaOS' math*-libraries. The "armeabi-v7a"-versions use the faster floating-point hardware of modern processors which all newer Android-devices contain - in case of doubt have a look at the manual of the device if it supports hardware floating-point calculations.

Finnish Amiga Users Group (ANF) Event: Saku 2012 in Oulu (Finland)
Official press release:
OULU, FINLAND - September 22nd, 2012 - Finnish Amiga Users Group holds its 5th Saku event in Oulu, Finland on Saturday, September 29th. The event is free for anyone interested in the wide range of current Amiga compatible systems. Admittance is free of charge and refreshments will be available. Saku 2012 will start at 13:00 on September 29th at Oulun Tetra ground floor conference room at Mäkelininkatu 31.

There will be several classic and new generation Amiga compatible systems available for testing. Classic AmigaOS is running on several A1200 models and on an A4000/060 with three (you read it right, 3!) Picasso IV graphic cards. A SAM440ep system will be running the new AmigaOS 4, and the latest MorphOS 3 will be demonstrated both on a G4 Mac mini and a G4 Powerbook. AROS is running on a PC, and Minimig will also be available for testing.

Gaming is available on several classic Amiga systems. Linked games are played via two A1200/030 computers. The legendary A500 is also involved. A1200 expansions like the BlizzardPPC, BVision and Indivision AGA MK2 are among the hardware displayed, not forgetting the up to 16GB CF drives.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Commodore 64 we have a fully packed C64 with an LCD display and a keyboard, double SID chips, the MSSIAH MIDI expansion and a Turbo Chameleon multipurpose expansion cartridge. There will also be gaming competitions arranged on the C64.

Visitors can take part in several game competitions and a Hello World programming competition. Latest Amiga magazines are available for reading and visitors can also bring their used items for sale. Finnish Amiga retailer Gentle Eye will be present, and Effi ry is sponsoring the refreshments and also selling their support products. The user group has their promotional T-shirts for sale as well.

Workbench replacement: X-bEnCH 0.7 (beta version)
X-bEnCH is a graphical user-interace with 128 colours which replaces the Workbench for starting WHDLoad-games (.slave, .exe).

According to the developer the programm works with all Amigas (OCS, AGA) equipped with 68000 to 68060 processor and requires few virtual memory.

Changes:

Start faster than with the previous release
Added a roto-starfield effect in the background of the main menu
Now autoscan your keymap type (QWERTY, QWERTZ or AZERTY) and correctly assign the keys to the FastJump feature
You can now disable the unused listing with the setup
Added a rainbow effect to the title name of the displayed list in the launcher
Launcher reactivity optimisation
CLI fixed in many cases but maybe still buggy in some cases...
Now the name of a listing can be up to 8 character long (5 previously)
Now in the setup save the name of the listings if you change it either if you don't have updated any list
Fixed many ugly visual bugs when opening/closing the display
Fixed a redisplay bug in the Menuscreen and the launcher screen

Chris Handley's AmiSystemRestore offers a Windows-like system restore for AmigaOS 4.

AmigaOS 4: RadeonHD driver 0.53
Under the title link registered customers can download for free version 0.53 of the RadeonHD driver which is supported by A-EON Technology. AmigaOS 4.1 (update 5) is required.

Changes:

VRAM buffer management is now fully implemented. The driver can now handle 3D drivers allocating more buffers than fits in VRAM
Intelligent shadow buffering of VRAM buffers added - reducing the need to copy the buffer back out of VRAM should it be paged out again without being modified
The RadeonHD_RM.resource is now enabled

Heinz-Raphael Reinke (ANF) AROS: New DevPak for AmiDevCpp
The AROS-DevPak for the integrated development environment AmiDevCpp was updated. The AROS versions AROS-i386, AROS-x86_64 and AROS-ppc are supported.

A DevPak includes all parts of a Software Development Kits (SDK) which are required to create executable programs for a platform. This means they are archives which consist of Includes and Linker-libraries. Those DevPaks are installed by a package manager included in AmiDevCpp. An automatic deinstallation is possible as well.

In order to accelerate the development of the 3D-driver for the R300-chipset which is used in several Powerbook models (as well as Radeon 9500/9700 graphic boards) the MorphOS-user William "Fraggle" Morris has made a donation of 2000 Euro to the developer Mark "bigfoot" Olsen. Grzegorz Kraszewski (ANF) MorphOS: Audio-converter Zormanita
Zormanita is another example for an application of the Reggae-library. The source code of the program is available as BSD-licence.

Currently Zormanita can convert AIFF-, 8SVX-, 16SV-, WAVE- and MP3-files into AIFF, WAVE or RAW. Each audio codec which is added to the system is automatically supported by Zormanita. The program has a graphical user-interface and supports Altivec. (cg) (Translation: dr)

In a blog entry Carl Sassenrath - who also is the author of "Exec" - has announced that he will probably finish the development of his programming language REBOL.

Originally the language has been a commercial product. But the "old model of how proprietary software products make money has been turned inside-out." He also said that "I also need to tell you that I don't have much time to help out with whatever the REBOL future may be. I can help a little from time to time, but generally I'm very busy these days."

The recently released port of Sqrxz for OCS Amigas is now available as free download in the form of an ADF image. The game requires at least Kickstart 1.2 as well one megabyte of memory, of which at least 512 KB should be ChipRAM. A version of the game which can be installed to a harddrive has already been announced.

Scriba is a simple text processing softare which is still in development written by Carsten Siegner. With version 0.6.0 all limitations of importing OpenDocument text files of the previous version (amiga-news.de reported on it) were lifted. Additionally the TurboPrint print module was reworked.

X-bEnCh is an Amiga game launcher & more. In a 128 colors display (ECS compatible), this frontend can autoscan your hard-drive to find your WHDLoad games or your .exe files and organize them in launching listings. X-bEnCh also has an integrated CLI fully compatible with the Workbench CLI feature.

Fixed some files check on startup that were wrongs.
Now pressing the "Del" Key when startup will cancel the X-bEnCh loading.
Now display the release number under the X-bEnCh startup logo.
Now working with a temp dir to leave the Ram free.

FastJump added. Now simply use your keyboard's key to jump where you want.

Kjetil Hvalstrand has published version 2.0 of his programm NoYellow which stops yellow guru mediations. It now consists of two hacks nodisplayalert and noalert.

noalert stops exec.library/alert from displaying, nodisplayalert stops intuition.library/displayalert from displaying.

noalert does not recover errors it only intercept the exec.library alert function.

Amiga Future (Webseite) AmigaOS 4 / MorphOS / AROS: XAMOS 0.28
The latest alpha version 0.28 of the AMOS-reimplementation XAMOS now is available for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS/x86.

The update adds an experimental hardware-accelerated OpenGL frontend. "This is currently disabled by default and not yet working correctly with all examples, or on all platforms." The website IntuitionBase offers an overview of AmigaOS-4-compatible software and hardware and now was updated with 140 applications, new hardware and articles. IntuitionBase will also be represented with an exhibition stand on the AmiWest.

Amiga-Emulator: FS-UAE 1.3.25
Frode Solheim's FS-UAE (screenshot) for Windows, Mac OS X 10.5+ (i386, PPC) and Linux (i386, AMD64) is based on WinUAE and can be controlled with a joypad.

Properly close OpenAL device on shutdown (avoids error on shutdown on Windows with OpenAL Soft implementation)

Chris Handley's AmiSystemRestore adds the possibility of a system restore to AmigaOS 4 similar to Windows. If a new programm is installed AmiSystemRestore backs up the system files (SYS:).

The second public beta version fixes several bugs, has a pictogramm. File names are no longer limited to 50 characters.
