Cooperation between Petsoff and individual Computers
After a long time the efficient Delfine soundcard continues being
produced with a DSP (digital Signal processor) at individual Computers.
The card was reworked on the Zorro-site to increase the performance to
a level which has never been there with unchanged Z-II buses: "Delfina
Flipper edition" gains more than 5MB7sec! This speed can be used to play
more channels than it has ever been possible on a different Z-II soundcard or to reduce the cpu-using while playing single channels. All known DSP functions and programs for the Delfina also work with the new cards inclusively the most interesting application which is playing MP3 files with minimal cpu-use. Thus an Amiga without a turbo board is able to play MP3 in best quality!
With the help of the Toccata emulation and of the AHI software interface the Delfina can be used by each software which needs a soundcard. A midi expansion connects the Delfina to midi-expanders, synthesizers and keyboards.
By reworking the Delfina s
oundcard by individual Computers the costs could be enormously reduced.
The new cards will be probably available in summer 2001.

Hyperion Entertainment changes status of Warp3D V4
Hyperion Entertainment changes status of Warp3D V4
We would like to inform you that after extensive deliberation, Hyperion
Entertainment has decided to upgrade the status of Warp 3D V4 from a
freeware product to a commercial OEM product which will offered to Amiga
hardware developers for a moderate license fee.
This decision was prompted by two major reasons:
- Hyperion Entertainment has reached an agreement with Amiga Inc. to
incorporate Warp3D V4 into Amiga OS 4.x on a per unit royalty
basis. Producers of zico compliant hardware (Amiga One etc.) will be
required to license Amiga OS 4.x and will as such be paying
indirectly for Warp 3D V4 drivers. It would be unacceptable to both
Amiga Inc. and these hardware producers that they would be required
to pay royalties for a product which other hardware producers would
receive free of charge.
- Warp 3D started out as a freeware product developed by non-commercial
developers to support the Virge and Permedia 2 chipsets. Compared to
current chipsets, the Virge and Permedia 2 are extremely primitive
and feature-poor. The effort and time needed to adequately support
modern chipsets such as the Voodoo 3 and Matrox G450 with their rich
and advanced feature-set is far greater than the effort required to
support the Virge and Permedia 2 chipsets. Combined with the fact
that there are currently no less than 7 different PCI product from
three different manufacturers, it's clear that the effort required to
support modern chipsets on all the different PCI hardware available
goes far beyond the scope of a freeware project.
As the original Warp 3D developers have now moved on to commercial
development, maintaining Warp 3D as a freeware product would entail that
development of new Warp 3D drivers and extension of the Warp 3D API
would be very slow as development could only take place "after hours".
This is not only not in the interest of Amiga users but it is also not
in the interest of hardware producers and resellers who rely on the
availability of Warp 3D drivers to successfully market their Amiga
hardware.
Hyperion Entertainment fully understands that the company has a
responsibility towards the Amiga community including the hardware
producers because of its control over the Warp 3D API and no attempt has
ever been made or will be made to exploit this position unfairly.
We have already successfully negotiated agreements with Matay and DCE
regarding Warp3D V4 support for the Voodoo 3 on their respective PCI
hardware. We are therefore happy to report that Voodoo 3 drivers for
these PCI solutions will be available shortly.
A similar proposal was made to Elbox but so far we have not received any
reaction.
Users considering purchase of a PCI solution for Amiga and who are
interested in high-performance 3D graphics should investigate the
availability of Warp3D drivers prior to making their decision to opt for
one or the other PCI solution.
It should also be noted that Warp3D will remain free for end users.

the search function has been strongly enhanced, so among other things
searching inside of the scene demo database is now possible, too.
New links as well as game and scene demo entries were added and some days
ago the GFX-Base introduced the last week's Aminet highlights.

PCI: Matay and Elbox (Update)
Matay published an official statement about the letter Elbox Computer
sent to Fabio Trotta. The letter by Elbox bears on Fabio Trotta's test
of the Prometheus board on NoRiscNoFun and
is part of the statement.
Supplement 27 May 2001
Elbox accused Matay to use graphics board drivers by Elbox without permission,
whereas Matay refers to an existing contract with the Picasso96 team.
(Desiatox)
(sd)
Supplement 28 May 2001
Today also the Picasso96 team piped up to definitively invalidate the accusation,
"we, the Picasso96 team, just want to straighten out that the Voodoo
boards driver utilized for the test was written by ourself. After all we have
experiences with this chip-set since the MacPicasso850. Furthermore Matay are
respectable business partners of ours. From our point of view all of the accusations
launched by Elbox are completely weak and of unbelievable bad style".

New pictures and report from the 'Japanese Business Show 2001'
As already reported,
Sharp Corporation presented the Sharp Zaurus pocket computer with AmigaDE as application
for the first time at their booth at the 'Japanese Business Show 2001' in Tokyo. Ralph
Ewers, an amiga-news.de reader currently living in Tokyo, has visited the show for us
and sent us more pictures and a small report.
Ralph Ewers had the chance to talk to Sharp's planning manager and obtain the following
information:
The Zaurus is supposed to be available in America this autumn running Linux (in English) instead
of the Japanese ZaurusOS. The American version will most likely contain some improvements:
in the same case, a faster CPU may be built into (the current CPU was at times indeed
slow running the DE), a battery with longer life and a keyboard with larger keys is planned
as well. Whether AmigaDE will be included depends on the licence fees which are currently
not decided yet. A first prototype of the English Zaurus may be seen at the Java-One taking
place in early June in America.
At least, Bill McEwen (here only called "Mister Bill" since it's easier to pronounce for
the Japanese) has had some successful meetings with a Sharp manager (these personal
meetings are very important!). He's at least in e-mail contact with the "planning manager"
I spoke to.
Amiga is definitely seen "only" as "content provider". A native DE hasn't been
thought about so far. (At least that's the official reply!)
Other "highlights":
The color display of the Palm m505 is at least in the default configuration
rather ugly and strongly reminds of the PalmIIIc. It also reflects awfully
(it has that - sadly - in common with the Zaurus). Regarding this, the
Cassiopeia s700 (or was it i700) impressed me very much. Subjectively not
any heavier than a Palm V (slightly deeper) and a great display with higher
resolution.
Logitec plans to release a DVD-R/RW (yes, "R") drive with FireWire in June,
the price is interesting: 120,000 Yen (plus 5% tax here in Japan).
Bluetooth was a big topic. Panasonic for example has presented miscellaneous
hardware; some kind of Gameboy, headphones, expansion cards for the
memory card slot and so on, and there's also a lot of choice for the Zaurus.

Game: Amerikan Chajnik In Russia
This game dedicated to all "Simpsons" cartoon fans. But now Homer Simpson
adventures are in Russia. The word "chajnik" in title mean "dummy" (it's

Russia. Autor -- Vladimir Berezenko aka Q-Master. Original version of this
game was developed by Vlad Scherbakov and Renat Farhulin (aka Mr. Gluk)
for ZX-Spectrum (yea, this computer still popular here in Russia).
There are English text strings in the game - you have to click on "AMERIKA"

Audio: ProStationAudio Update - 24bit Import
Beyond 16bit audio.
The current trend in the audio industry is to propose
alternatives to 16bit audio storage. Efforts are
targeting opposite directions: uncompressed high
resolution (24bit/96KHz) and high compression ratios
(MPEG).
In order to keep up to date in handling data generated
by latest Mac and Windows audio applications the new
ProStationAudio 4.10 now can import and convert to
16bit for multitrack editing from:
- 24bit/96KHz (packed data, mono and stereo) AIFF (Macintosh)
- 24bit/96KHz (packed data, mono and stereo) WAV (Windows)
- Raw MP3 files
- WAV MP3 files (0x55 format)
- WAV MP3 files (0x50 format)
- Shoutcast live streaming MP3
Enhancements over 4.05 include a mouse-over capability
that allows to inspect objects' attributes by moving the
mouse pointer over the timeline, and fixes. The product
is ready now, there's no new public demo for 4.10.
ProStationAudio 4.10 will also be available to current
customers in a few days, free update as always.
ProStationAudio runs on AmigaOS (classic only) systems
(Amigas and Dracos). An additional version for Windows
is in the works.

«1. no dealers have yet been announced
2. no pricing has yet been announced to any dealers
3. epic/amigastuff are just guessing to test the market reaction IMO.

ARexx: Selection Script for Miami
Everybody who wants to save money and therefore assigns his online times
to several providers, knows the problem having to call in Miami the cheapest provider
for the time being via "Load settings" every time. Frank Seidel has written a
small ARexx script to simplify this.
If you call the script for example via the Toolmanager Miami is started (if not
already running) and then you can immediately choose via button the wanted settings
file. There are four buttons available:
| Standard | Mon - Sat | Sun + holiday | Choose yourself |
Clicking on ´Choose yourself´ opens a file requester in the Miami
directory, and you can choose the file yourself. After that Miami goes online.

Microcode Solutions announces PowerPC Hardware
Microcode Solutions announces PowerPC hardware for PC's and new Amigas,
along with Power Macintosh emulation!
Jim Drew from Microcode Solutions wrote on
the 18.05.2001:
Today, Microcode Solutions finalized preparation for the production of
PowerPC hardware to be used in PC compatibles and next generation Amiga
machines.
The hardware will come with software to emulate a Power Macintosh (tm)
computer. More information concerning the emulation will be released in
the near future.
Specifications for the hardware will not be released until the hardware
is ready to ship. However, we can say that the hardware will have some
astounding features designed around simplifying 3rd party development,
including emulation technology.
Microcode Solutions will be offering free developer hardware to
qualified companies and 3rd party developers (including
freeware/shareware). Microcode Solutions will also be releasing a
complete SDK for the hardware to the public, and provide technical
support to anyone interested in developing software for this hardware.

Amiga Arena: Special Price Offer
About two weeks ago, the Amiga Arena offered in cooperation with Fun Time World
to get the package ´Image Engineer´ and ´Visual Engineer´ for a special price of DM 49,-;
on the condition that we would get more than 30 orders. Sadly, we couldn't reach even half of that so far.
We'll leave the order form online
until Sunday and hope for many orders. Maybe we'll manage to the special price for the collective order from the
programmer.

AMIGAONE Yahoo Chat
Shawn (aka Amigaone) has created a chat with subject ´AmigaOne´ at Yahoo.
To take part a JavaTM capable browser is required and you will have to register for
the chat at Yahoo. On Saturday, 9 June (7 pm) a live chat will start where users will
be able to discuss theire wishes, criticism, and suggestions for the AmigaOne. The
log-file will be forwarded to both Bill McEwen and Fleecy Moss. Who would like to
receive the log-file, may contact amigaone@powerh.net.
Supplement:
Since we were advised by many people that the initiator is about to be somebody
who lacks seriousness, we suggest to read the
comments, too.
Original message with more details.
This chat will include voice. Just get your mics and plug them in. Or
at least turn the voice on. First go to yahoo. Then click on the Chat
link. Register as a user if you haven't done so. Don't download the
messenger because its windows unless you have a windows machine then
come early and download yahoo messenger.
Once logged in, click on the start chatting button, its java so it best
to use a Java capable browser. Go to AMIGAONE room and I AMIGATHEONE will
be there. Along with many others.
Starting SAT JUNE 9th, 7pm central and lasting till whenever there
will be a live chat on the new AMIGA. All may truly express their
feelings on what they dislike and this log will be submitted to Bill
and Fleecy.
You may contact me at amigaone@powerh.net
to get the log of the show. I personally invite people who wrongly
believe in the pci and agp solution. IF they aren't there it only proves
that they are wrong and cant put up. This is an enlightening forum for
truth and helpfulness. Nothing else. Absuses will not be tolerated and
anybody doing so will be booted by me or my assistance whom I trust.

Christoph Poelzl of

more and more digital cameras (e.g. Canon EOS D30, Olympus E10, Kodak DCS 760....)

the two new loaders ´RAW Grey´ and ´RAW Color´ the
ImageEditor
in principle can read any raw formatted picture (e.g. sculpt), now.

'Business Cards' of Chip Designers
Any Amiga user is aware that hardware and software designers like to leave some
personal remarks (easter eggs) in their work. More difficult is to find such 'business cards'.
Those reside on silicon chips and can be made visible only by using a microscope (or even an
electron microscope).
Here are two pictures from Motorola PowerPC chips:

Programming Language: Emperor Introduces Itself
Emperor is an object-orientated programming language which enables the user in a most simple way to
write applications and tools for the new AmigaOS 3.9 as well as for AmigaOS 2.0.
Standard-GUI-elements like windows, menus, requesters, ASL-requesters, ReAction- and GadTools-gadgets
are integrated by clicking the mouse and can be programmed with the help of macro functions and integrated
text editor. The gadgets can communicate by implementing of so called Interconnection-maps without
typing a single line of source code. It is also very easy to create locale-catalogs and variables, to
integrate libraries and so on. Emperor has an easily understandable and user-friendly ReAction-Gui and
a detailed online-handbook in the ".guide"-format.
Programming the new AmigaOS becomes a pushover!
Emperor is available in the completely reworked version 4.0 and has the following features:
- Immediate visualizing of each element available
- Generating C/C++-source code
- Integrated text editor
- StormC-connection via ARexx
- Generating source code for AmigaOS 2.0, AmigaOS 3.9 or in mixed modus
- Memory use drastically reduced (requires: 3 to 4 MByte)
- Fixed some minor bugs of the previous version
- Extended handling of GadTools-gadgets
- Understandable layout
- More complex menus
- FREEWARE
You can download version 4.0 of the program on Aminet-directory "dev/c".

Heise: Karlsruhe judges Future of Domain Names
»Federal Supreme Court in Karlsruhe will effect a Domain hearing on Thursday which is considered to be
trend-setting for handling general describing web-addresses.
First the conflict about the domain www.mitwohnzentrale.de had exercised judiciary of Hamburg. In the end
of 1999 regional court of appeal allowed the suit of the roommate center compound HomeCompany and
had forbidden the defendant Ring Europaeischer Mitwohnzentralen (REM) to continue using the domain because of
anticompetitive action. The use of terms without individual additives would interfere competition at
the expense of competitors. This would lead to an "interception" of possible customers just wanting to
explore the tender at the market section by 'hit or miss'-typing the Domain name. Because of that they
would accidently come to the defendant's sites and would stop searching for other competitors and
therefore would not compare other services.«

IBM will publish a WebPAD with QNX Neutrino as OS and Opera as WWW-browser. A customer also has been found, yet.
If the device contains a PPC or a x86 processor was not mentioned in the message. IBM had announced PPCs

R-Type Title Song as Ringing Sound for your Cell Phone
Dennis Lohr, aka Psyria, has got another
licence from Chris Huelsbeck to convert one
of his songs into cell phone format. This time it's the title melody of "R-Type".
For everybody who doesn't need a picture, here's the notation sequence:
4G#4, 4D#5, 4G#5, 8D#6, 2C#.6, 8C6, 8A#5, 4C.6, 8G#5, 4D#.5, 8G#5,
2C#.5, 8D#5, 8F5, 4D#5, 4D#5, 4G#4, 4D#5, 8D#6, 2C#.6, 8C6, 8A#5,
4C.6, 8G#5, 4D#.5, 8G#5, 2A#.5, 8G#5, 8A#5, 4G#5, 8G#5, 1P
First number: kind of the note (full, half, quarter, ...)
Letter : note height (if need be with "#" + ".")
Third number: Octave (note height)
People who'd rather see a picture can find this at Psyria on the homepage (title
link) at the download area.
On "www.mp3.com/huelsbeck" you can find
the old pieces of Chris Huelsbeck in studio quality.
The next conversion for the handy will be "Giana Sisters". Be anxious. ;)
Psyria wrote:
You have to set the speed for the song for yourself!
This is needed because every cell phone producer uses a different way for the speed
display. For example: for Siemens cell phones it's 1 = slow to 30 = fast and for
Nokia cell phones it's in bpm.
On Siemens cell phones it would be 7 or 8 ;) (tested on S25 & S35)

REBOL: Function Dictionary, Sound Support, VID FAQ
Function dictionary
On the 10. May 2001 has REBOL Technologies released an update of the
'Function Dictionary' where the functions of the REBOL system
are described. The functions are sorted by categories and alphabetically. The
dictionary is available as
HTML file (almost 900 KB)
and in the REBOL desktop via 'REBOL.com/Ref-Make'. This script loads around 40
KB from the REBOL site and generates the file
'/public/www.rebol.com/view/docs/dictionary.html' within the REBOL directory.
Sound support
REBOL/View/Pro supports from the version 1.2 on the output of sound samples.
For the loading of samples is a subset of the WAV format (PCM samples with 8 or 16
Bit) supported.
The sound output is possible on the systems AmigaOS (AHI, audio.device),
BeOS, Linux/x86 (Open Sound System) and Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000.
Further information can be taken from the
REBOL sound documentation.
VID-FAQ
A faq regarding the REBOL GUI dialect 'VID' can be found via the REBOL desktop
on
http://www.compkarori.co.nz/index.r within 'VidWiki'.
Information: REBOL
REBOL is a cross platform system developed by Carl Sassenrath (Amiga-Exec) that was
first released in November 1997. The REBOL programming language
allows an easy use of the internet including the programming of CGI scripts and
the easy creation of GUIs.
On 24. April 2001 was REBOL/View V1.1 released. From this version on
REBOL offers the REBOL desktop. This makes it possible to put REBOL scripts on
every web server, so that these scripts can be called and executed via the
desktop. Herewith REBOL offers similar possibilities as Java does. The
examples listed on REBOL include
games like Tetris and Minesweeper and tools like a pocket calculator and a
script for sending e-mails.

Amiga port of SiN Finished, but...
From a posting of Ben Hermans of

that the Amiga port of the game 'SiN' is ready but the actual Amiga hardware
isn't enough to cope with the requirements of the game. The port will be hold

Hermans said that particularly the lower-end Blizzard acceleration cards couldn't offer

Intel: Itanium Set in May
Intel plans the release of the first batch
Itanium chips for the end of this month. It is expected that two or three
versions of this chip will arrive. One with 733 Mhz and a 800-Mhz version with
2 MB cache. A 800-Mhz version with 4 MB cache is said to come, too. Amiga should
now mention whether an Itanium compatible translator (VP) is planned.
Itanium chips are 64Bit processors that can among other things manage 32 GB
memory. Enough for complete websites or the content of big harddrives.
IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Dell and other big computer distributors will soon present
computers with 2, 4 and even with 16 processors that for the first time will have
the 64 bit Itanium chip.

Amiga Network News more Comfortable
Christian Kemp did a technical extension of the Amiga Network News website (ANN),
re-activated the notify service, and changed the HTML code.
Now the page optionally supports cookies. If cookies are active the current
settings, own name, and e-mail address is saved to cookies. This facilitates entering of comments.
The notify service was re-activated, so subscribers are automatically informed about updates, again.
The layout was reset to the previous version and all of the MS Internet Explorer specific changes
has been removed, since it seemed to be impossible to request all of the Amiga browser variants,
which indeed announce themselves as CSS2 capable browsers via spoofing, but do not support every
CSS2 feature.
Amiga Network News offers commentable topical messages from the Amiga sector.

dynAMIte CD Version News
The recently started dynAMIte CD project is progressing in some way, but unfortunately not
as fast as we had hoped. We are on a good way to it, but still need some pre-orders to
achieve a minimum of 100. We got some questions about the content of the CD:
- dynAMIte (the game itself will stay freeware!)
- New dynAMIte Gfx-Styles
- New dynAMIte Sample sets
- At least 100 new levels
- Extended manual in any imaginable language
- Big Intro
- CD sound track
- and some more surprises which we hopefully will be able announce, soon.
We are looking forward to more pre-orders!

Amiga Arena: Special Price for VideoEasel
In co-operation with Thomas Richter Amiga Arena makes VideoEasel available at a
special price. The special price is valid until the 31.06.2001. You can find the
special price campaign in the section "Aktionen"!
About VideoEasel:
It is tricky to describe this program, it's best described as a "mathematical
toy", entertainment on the highest level.
Maybe Conway's "Game of Life" is known, a cellular automaton that can be used to
imitate "biological looking" processes. At its time this "game" went through the
press, with its variations. Indeed VE can deal yet more; things like the kinetic
gas theory, oscillating chemical reactions, simulated circuits, diffusion
processes and more can be simulated. Own automatons can be developed, VE is
programmable.
The idea is simple: the screen is divided in cells (the screen pixels),
the condition of a grid pixel at the time t+1 then depends on the condition of
the cell itself and their neighborhood at the time t via a simple (programmable)
rule. You can here already simulate very complex processes with very simple
rules, and the results aren't always easily predictable. some of the automatons
have serious applications and are used as models in the statical physics ( grid
gas, Ising model of the ferromagnetism), partly it's just an interesting toy
(Game of Life, Brian's Brain, many more).
VE comes with a manual that contains several dozens experiments next to example
data starting points. Just test out the demo version.
Further information can be found at
Thor Software.

Digital Almanac III - Update and News
There's again an update of the astronomical program ´Digital Almanac
III´ with new features and improvements. The new version is numbered 3.3.
Highlights this time are:
- Calculation of "Killer asteroids" (so called PHAs). Who comes nearest to the
earth?
- IFF ANIM compression now also in the PPC mode. For animations and pictures
only the actual star map is saved, not the whole screen anymore.
- Extended toolbar with buttons in the GlowIcon style by Martin Merz.
- The DA III screen has now a name, so that some commodities (for example MCP)
can access it. With a new menu item you can now fade in the screen bar with
depth gadget.
Bugfixes:
- The ways of several small bodies was drawn wrong because of a false Perihel
calculation.
- The printout was unfortunately distorted since several versions.
This error was unfortunately discovered just now.
As usual, the update will be sent to all registered users via email.
Remarks to WinUAE and MorphOS:
DA III runs perfectly under the new WinUAE JIT version in the 020/FPU mode.
Under older UAE versions (for example: Cloanto's latest version in the AmigaForever
v4) DA III is only usable with the non-FPU version in the pure 020 mode, as the
FPU emulation here is still buggy. DA III in all versions does not run under
MorphOS. It seems that not all FPU instructions are correctly emulated. Only the
020 version runs with restrictions. A special MorphOS version will definitely
not happen. When the WarpOS version of DA III runs stable under MorphOS, a
special MorphOS version becomes unnecessary.
PC port?
DA III won't be ported to Windows, Linux or another OS. Previous requests for
such a port had unfortunately to be refused. DA III is and
keeps an Amiga program. Especially under Windows there's a big number of similar
programs of high value. (ps)

AMPlifier V2.26
AMPlifier is in the first line a comfortable player program for MP3
(MPEG) audio, but can also play different 16-bit sound formats (AIFF,
MAUD, WAV, RAW). AMPlifier supports hardware based MPEG audio decoder as much as
software decoding via MPEGA.library.
The graphical design can be fit to everybody's own likings via so called 'skins'.
As the same system as in WinAMP is used there are several thousands ready skins
available.
Now AMPlifier is available in a new version with several new functions.
- Shoutcast/Icecast MP3 streaming ('.m3u' and '.pls')
- ID3v2 tag support
- new AREXX instructions
- 8-bit WAV support

c't issue 10/2001: Amiga-Comeback?
On page 32 of the latest c't (German computer print magazine), the following can be read:
»Amiga Comeback?
Despite otherwise read rumors Sharp's for
the end of the year announced Zaurus PDA will not run with a new developed Amiga
OS. Instead of this a specially adapted version of RedHat-Linux will be used.
Amiga Incorporated, the remainder of the same
named computer manufacturer with rich traditions, will indeed develop numerous
Java applications for the organizer, so that the GUI may indeed remind of old
Amiga times. (dal)« (ps)

Psyria: New Piece of Music
Psyria produces its music exclusively on the Amiga. Two days ago Psyria has
released a new megamix which is ready for download only for a short time!
"Psyria in the Mix" is an almost 30 minutes long megamix out of 6 songs. It
contains also still unreleased music pieces which will be found on the coming
album (presumably summer 2001).
To give not only DSL and cable users the possibility for downloading the whole
thing comes in two versions. Once in high quality (around 33 MB in size)
and once as low quality (around 20 MB in size). All those who want to gather more
information about the project Psyria can subscribe to the newsletter or simply
