AROS: Current status of development of the 64-bit version
In a post on the AROSWorld forum, Krzysztof 'deadwood' Śmiechowicz reports on the goals that have been achieved in the three areas of browser/software/hardware in terms of the development plan and the current status of the 64-bit version of the AROS operating system.

During the summer months, the focus was mainly on the software side. Eleven new software packages for 64-bit were uploaded to the archives. In addition, the core system received two updates with several bug fixes as well as updated and new components. These updates are now released every 2-3 months, bringing the latest developments to the user community.

In addition to the software mentioned above, work began on two major software products this quarter: Amiberry and RetroArch.

For the last quarter of the year, the developer plans to focus on providing more software for 64-bit AROS. This will be achieved by supporting other developers in porting or recompiling software, but also by releasing a first version of the ABIv0 emulator, which is specifically designed for software that cannot be recompiled for 64-bit AROS.

The long-term outlook remains unchanged, as reported in July. (dr)

Turn-based strategy: "Citizen Happiness Update I" for "Settle the World"
Christian Wiegel writes: "With this update, the citizens of a city begin to react to the supply of finished goods and the availability of required buildings. If the supply of finished goods is insufficient, the citizens become unhappy. Unhappy citizens can strike at production buildings, thereby partially shutting down a city's goods production. In the worst case, if unhappiness is very high, citizens may even leave a city and, with a bit of bad luck, roam the countryside as bandits. more ... (cg)

Computer history: Commodore's Atari joystick copy from 1982
On The Silicon Underground, technology journalist David L. Farquhar sheds light on an unusual part of early home computer history: Commodore's copy of the Atari joystick from 1982, which led to Atari suing Commodore. The article describes how Commodore attempted to replicate the Atari joystick technology, which was widespread at the time, in order to use it for its own systems - with some curious deviations from the original and interesting technical modifications. Amiga40: Live stream service
Amiga40 will take place in Mönchengladbach this coming weekend. For anyone who is still undecided about attending, there is good news on two fronts.

As things stand at present, afternoon tickets (admission from 4 p.m.) can still be purchased at the box office on Saturday. Tickets for Sunday are still available both in the ticket shop and at the box office.

For those who live too far away or don't have the time, Alisha from AUGS and Vitus from BBSindex will be providing a live stream of both days: The two use more than 1 km of fibre optic cable, 12 video sources and three video mixing consoles. And they do it all at their own expense.

Here is an overview of the planned schedule for Amiga40:
