BBS: System-X v1.08 beta3
On October 13th, version 1.08 beta 3 of the BBS software System-X has been released. Conference passwords should be functional in this version.

System-X is a freeware BBS software for the Amiga, just like old AmiExpress.
System-X is in many things compatible to AmiExpress, and aside from the door ports for XIM/AIM also supports CLI/STDIO, DayDream and DayDreamRexx doors, MAXS, and an experimental Famedoorport.
Peter Zelesny, currently programmer of XChat for Linux, started the project 1996, which is today continued by Michael Clasen and Eric Beragg. (ps)

AmigaAMP v2.7b8 released
Thomas Wenzel writes:
I just released the new beta version v2.7b7 of AmigaAMP on my homepage. Because of the persistent troubles with the datatypes I now try to work around this with the guigfx.library. If this should lead to more troubles instead of less troubles, this can be switched of with the NOGUIGFX tool type. The guigfx.library however contains several workarounds for errors in the datatypes, so it should run better. (ps)

Silversurfer 2.101 and howto
Jens Schönfeld writes:
Changes from 2.99 to 2.101: Silversurfer and Catweasel MK2 can be used on the same clock port. This however requires some modifications to the Silversurfer - better directly order a readily modified Silversurfer from your dealer.
Second change: the limited edition of the Silversurfer is recognized on the MK2, without modification! The Catweasel MK2 also has a 26pin expansion port, which I did not really make use of so far - the limited edition is the first product to run on it.

"howto"-area
On my website, at "support", I added a "howto" area. Here I am posting tips and manuals about my products. For starters, I posted how to install a hard drive with TD64, since I keep recieving e-mails about it. In the future, I will answer questions I recieve by e-mail in readable text and post it here, to create an archive that (hopefully) answers all problems, even when I am not answering e-mails for some days. Only 200 prepayments so far for FusionPPC
According to Paul Lesurf of Blittersoft, the current count of prepayments for FusionPPC is very low. While 600 promised to place a prepayment, only about 200 have actually done so so far. Read the complete statement at the title link.

While Amiga users have been wailing about empty promises by Amiga Inc. and other companies, it's a shame that an effort to bring a professional software product to the Amiga market is rewarded with just the same kind of empty promises. Silversurfer Update
Jens Schönfeld writes:
Sales of the Silversurfer started surprisingly well. Preorders have been catched up, so there will be no more delays for orders.
Since October 15th, there is a software update available from my website. Changes:
  • device now 68000 compatible
  • A600 adapter supported
  • crashes with Z4 board fixed
  • Installer script optimized
  • successful installation can now be checked by the power LED "morse code" even without a 15kHz monitor

Start of delivery for the A600 adapter is November 10th, 1999. Preorders are not accepted, to avoid confusion with people who placed pre-orders but bought one at the Cologne show.
Available since Thursday is the Silversurfer limited edition. It has a 26pin port for connecting with old Buddha controllers (those with a green board) or the Catweasel Z-II (all versions). The number is limited to 88. The limited edition is not available in shops, but only by fax order from individual Computers. Due to the small numbers, the price is ~40 Euro plus ~5 Euro P&P. (ps)

Apex: Payback status report 2
There is a new status report about Payback from Apex Designs.
  • Bugs have been removed. There have been problems with collision control. It now works faster and more reliable, but needs some more work.
  • The sound mixing code has been implemented. It is a very flexible system. A total of 12 sounds can be mixed with their exact 3D position, and be reproduced in stereo via the inverse square law. Moreover, a realistic doppler effect simulation is available. All this runs on the Amiga soundchip "Paula", and will be optimised by Assembler code.
  • Talks have been made with several bands about the soundtrack. Perhaps more in the next update.

2nd beta of AHI/PPC
Martin Blom has released a new beta of AHI for PPC. This version supports WarpUp, but right now is 35% slower than the PowerUp version. Therefore you shouldn't expect much speed from this version, but simply tell Martin Blom if it runs.

XLight / LaserMax
XLight is a soft-/hardware project by Christian Entrup for controlling lighting systems for small and large events. On the homepare the following information is available in adition to the manual and screenshots:

Right now, ony a demo version of this software is available. It is a demo version WITHOUT HARDWARE OUTPUT on the parallel port. The subroutines for driving the hardware are missing in this version! The software is fully functional, however, including writing and saving lighting skripts. Sadly, the switch group and strobo group with their abilities cannot be marveled at, since there is no graphical representation on the user interface for them. Registering is not planned right now. A full version is not yet delivered. Since I am not sure about how to distribute the hardware (own manufacturing, construction set, giving out layouts, or...) and the hardware tests are not yet finished, this is delayed, since quality and safety are #1 issues. V3

V³ pre4
The latest version removes numerous bugs. It is recommended to reboot after installation to make sure no old libraries remain in memory. Additionally, V³ now sports a demo mode, so the program can be tested without keyfile for 30 minutes; and a new toolbar by Loonstar.
There is a seperate PPC version of VFlash V3.0pre3 is now available.
The current V³ versions are prereleases meant for testing and locating bugs; they are not final versions with more or less guaranteed stability.

Urban D. Mueller in dcsam

Aminet Status
Urban Mueller writes in dcsam that right now there is no way to say when Aminet will be running again. Older files can be downloaded from the usual servers, new uploads are still not exchanged between servers.
Reason for the trouble is that the main server in Paderborn has been hacked, and has to be completely rebuild.
If Aminet should stay down for duration, the main server will be transferred back to wuarchive, which would however take some time, too. (ps)
