Music editor: MusicMaker V8 Version 3.12 (update)
Thomas Winischhofer's 'MusicMaker V8' ('MMV8') is a sample-based music editor which the author started back in 1986 as hobby project. As the author wrote, "much later it published in France and the German speaking parts of Europe by Data Becker (V1.76) and by Wolf Software (V2.358, Germany only)."
This version 3 dates back to late 1992 and was never published as a commercial product.
In the readme it is explained, that MMV8 uses "macros" which - unlike "patterns" in trackers - apply to a single channel only. Those "macros" are then put in a playing order, which is called a track. As MMV8 provides up to eight audio channels, up to eight tracks can be set up.
As Thomas Winischhofer told us some time ago, he "doesn't really want to do anything more on the MM except occasionally fix bugs that stand out." That would not be worth reporting. However, this has turned into a few updates in recent times, each of which has been published on Aminet. As the developer writes, he has small windows of time at the moment, which, unlike the DSP drivers - his
other Amiga project of the recent past) he can use sitting at the emulator to fix bugs and improve the source code from 1986 and the following years. But he definitely doesn't want to take away the character and charm of the 80s from the program.
In the latest versions the author mainly worked on the GUI and fixed several minor bugs.
Who of our readers had or has used the music editor?
Update: (07:43, 24.10.21, dr)
Meanwhile version 3.12 is available. Now "m" now shows instrument paths and minor inconvenience in the install script were fixed. (dr)

Review: Amiga python port of puzzle game 'Oil Worker'
In mid-July, developer Janne Peräaho had begun a series of Python conversions with the game Space Invaders. He now continued this series with the game OilWorker originally published by Wil Alvarez in 2008 as implementation for AmigaOS 4.1. Thereby he optimized the loading of the game data, created the possibility to reset the highscore and added a small manual.
The aim of the game is to lay an oil pipeline from the delivery point to the tank. The pieces to be used for this purpose must be placed next to each other in the playing field in a meaningful way, whereby a minimum number must be reached. In a preview at the upper right edge you can see the next four pieces to be processed for the pipeline. If one just doesn't fit the line you've started (the pieces can't be rotated), it can be placed anywhere on the board or built over an existing one (for a $50 deduction). The game features simple, but nice background music and also single SFX.
In our small test, 'Oil Worker' ran very smoothly and without problems on an AmigaOne X5000. Using emulated AmigaOS 4.1 (WinUAE on an Intel 2.20 GHz laptop), the game also worked, but only 1-2 FPS were achieved, which meant that setting the parts was still reasonably smooth. However, the time it took for the oil from the ground to reach the upper well and then flow through the pipe was disproportionately long, making the whole thing impossible to play sensibly.
The game is definitely recommended for all those who want to strain their grey cells a bit with a small game in between. However, it should be tested whether the game runs just as smoothly on weaker native hardware (X1000, Sam boards) or whether it can be used sensibly with a faster emulation (current PC). (dr)

Puzzle: Wheel of fortune game 'YAWoFFA'
Developer 'zooperdan' today released his BlitzBasic-written implementation of the Wheel of Fortune game called 'YAWoFFA' (Yet Another Wheel of Fortune For Amiga). The principle should be familiar: Spin the wheel of fortune, choose a letter and try to solve the word or combination of words you are looking for. The game can be played alone or with four players.
YAWoFFA requires Kickstart 2.x and 1MB chip ram. In the current version 0.4 the game supports only English terms and offers the four categories 'Amiga Games', 'Movies', 'Famous people' and 'Miscellaneous'. In future versions a computer opponent and more categories are planned. The game is available for free, a small donation is of course welcome.
Since we have accompanied the development of the game for some time and were in exchange with the developer, we asked whether a German-language variant would also be possible. The author kindly took care of it, but so far failed in the implementation of the 'umlauts' in BlitzBasic. He is happy about suggestions in this regard, but points out that the idea of reading the text file (with the words) with the correct code does not work in BlitzBasic. (dr)

AmiWest: Announcements of A-EON/Amigakit
Matthew Leaman (Amigakit, A-EON), Trevor Dickinson (A-EON), and Steven Solie (ExecSG) are not attending AmiWest in person, but will be talking about A-EON and Amigakit's projects and products in a live-streamed video conference. Most of the points addressed can be seen in the screenshots of the respective presentation below, but we have briefly summarized some additional points addressed:
- New versions of Enhancer and DvPlayer are available now (see screenshots)
- Matthew Leaman talks about Enhancer Release V54 - the in-house OS project, which he consistently calls a "distribution": It is installed on its own partition without changing the AmigaOS 4 partition - many users had wished for this. The user could then choose during the boot process whether to start Enhancer Release V54 or AmigaOS 4.
- Hans de Ruiter is working on "NovaBridge", a Warp3D driver that does not access the hardware but Warp 3D Nova. This makes it possible to run old Warp3D titles - WipeOut 2097 is shown - on modern graphics cards for which no W3D driver exists.
- Dickinson shows screenshots of AmigaOS 4.1 on the latest revision of the A1222plus motherboard and describes the current state of work. He does not want to give an estimate when the motherboards might be available.
- Dickinson wanted to present a "video demo" of the long announced LibreOffice port, but due to a "hardware mishap" of the responsible developer the video did not materialize.
- Andy Broad is working on an OS4 port of ImageFX

AmigaOS 4: Preview to Qt 6.2.0
In 2011, Alfkil Wennermark released a first native port of the C++ class library Qt 4.7 for AmigaOS 4.
At the end of August on amigans.net, the author reported that he is about to port Qt6. Now he has uploaded a first preview of a text editor to OS4Depot ceated with QT 6.2.0. Following the instructions of the author, we get the following impressions:
The text can be smoothly marked and formatted using the corresponding icons. The tool runs without any problems or crashes. On amigans.net the author also has introduced other applications like a clock or a calculator. He also has confirmed that at one point he will also port the Qt WebEngine. Further details he will provide in a future Twitch stream.
If you want to support the author you can do it using his PayPal address. (dr)

Game announcement: 'Balloons' for all Amiga systems
Achim Kern is not only continuously working on his 'SmartHome' project for automating one's own four walls (amiga-news.de reported), but also uses the multimedia-oriented programming language Hollywood used for this purpose to develop games such as Mars Tank Attack.
In his latest game project, 'Balloons', those balloons have to be shot at a fair, with the difficulty increasing from level to level: with more balloons, shorter time and a limited number of shots. Likewise, in higher levels, certain sequences are given, such as three blue, two red, four green balloons. This sounds simple, but the player has to remember this order...If you have further ideas for levels, please contact Achim Kern. The screenshots kindly provided by the author should give a first impression. The game will be available for free for all platforms supported by Hollywood Player and is planned for the end of the year.

MorphOS: Adventure interpreter ScummVM 2.5.0
Press release: Twenty years ago today, on Tue Oct 9 16:30:12 2001, Ludvig Strigeus pushed the initial revision of the ScummVM code, which was version 0.0.1 of the project. Time flew quickly and, fast-forward to the present day, we are proudly releasing ScummVM 2.5.0 "Twenty years ago today…"
The list of changes is tremendous.
First of all, this is the first release that supports 2.5D games (almost 3D), thanks to the merger with ResidualVM. With this release we announce support for Grim Fandango, The Longest Journey and Myst 3: Exile. This is why we jumped straight to 2.5 in our versioning. Please note that only desktop platforms currently support these games and other platforms may or may not gain the support later depending on their capabilities.
In addition to these 3 games and engines, we officially support 10 more new engines and subengines that add compatibility with the following games:
- Little Big Adventure
- Red Comrades 1: Save the Galaxy
- Red Comrades 2: For the Great Justice
- Transylvania
- Crimson Crown
- OO-Topos
- Glulx interactive fiction games
- Private Eye
- AGS Games versions 2.5+
- Nightlong: Union City Conspiracy
- The Journeyman Project 2: Buried in Time
- Crusader: No Remorse
- L-ZONE
- Spaceship Warlock
We love localized game releases and multiple platform versions, thus with this release, we enhanced the support for Lure of the Temptress Konami release, Blue Force Spanish, Ringworld Spanish, Amazon: Guardians of Eden Spanish, Mystery House French, Russian translations of Sierra AGI games, Elvira 1 Japanese PC-98, Bargon Attack Russian, Woodruff Russian, Eye of the Beholder Japanese Sega-CD, Legend of Kyrandia Hebrew, Legend of Kyrandia 2 Hebrew, Legend of Kyrandia 3 Simplified Chinese, Inherit the Earth PC-98 Japanese, Gabriel Knight 1 Macintosh, Xeen Russian to name but a few. Notably, Macintosh b/w versions of Loom and Indy 3 are now also supported.
Besides the new games and game versions, ScummVM 2.5.0 brings many notable improvements and new features. We have completed a major rework of the GUI: We now support Unicode characters everywhere. The GUI also adapts to high resolutions used in HiDPI screens. The Nintendo DS port has been significantly rewritten. We added GOG and Steam achievements to a large number of Wintermute games and enabled KeyMapper in more games. Thanks to the work of one of our GSoC students, we have now added an option for text-to-speech to the games Sfinx, Soltys and The Griffon Legend.
You may find all of this goodness available to a number of platforms on our download page or let the autoupdater kick in on Macintosh and Windows.
We wish you great adventuring, happy puzzle-solving and exciting journeys to RPG worlds, and hope to see you around in the coming years.
And by the way, GOG.com is running a special promo tied to the release and our anniversary, where you can buy many ScummVM-supported games at a discount.

Floppy disk images reading and writing on PC or Mac: Greaseweazle 0.31
Keir Fraser's "Greaseweazle" does - similar to Kryoflux - read the magnetic information on a floppy disk independently from the format used and saves as much information as possible to generate a so-called "Flux Level Image" in Supercard format (SCP), which enables reading and back-writing of copy-protected disks (amiga-news.de reported).
The adapter gets connected between a floppy disk drive - e.g. a standard 3.5" PC one - and a USB port of the PC or Mac. Now released version 0.31 increases USB buffer size from 16 to 64 KB. Greaseweazle is available at various dealers. (snx)

Graphics card ZZ9000: New firmware 1.9.1
Lukas F. Hartmann's ZZ9000 is a graphics card with additional features and ports (network, USB, SD cards), which can be preordered in different versions (amiga-news.de reported).
Yesterday the new firmware version 1.9.1 was released. It requires the new RTG driver 1.9 (can be downloaded under the title link) and includes the following changes:
- Fixes issues from 1.9:
- PAL/NTSC/Interlace switching was sometimes unreliable, leading to garbage states if loading monitor driver after loading Workbench
- Video formatter writes (esp. for sprites) could be interrupted with other video formatter writes by vblank/split interrupt, leading to undefined states and garbage or doubled screen when switching modes (esp. with RTG/native mode switching)
- ZZ9000Installer had a bug that would not rename the correct driver for Zorro 2 systems (A500/A2000)
- Improvements vs 1.8:
- zzusb.device now in ZZ9000 ROM (Remove Devs:ZZ9000USBStorage.device!)
- Automatic discovery and boot from USB stick partitions (currently OFS/FFS only)
- "Turbo" method of setting up drawing registers now the default (helps with CyberStorm MK1, for example)
- 2 different palettes supported for 8-bit P96 split screen (requires P96 3.1.4+)
- Support for new Multi Monitor feature of P96 by setting DISPLAYCHAIN ToolType of ZZ9000 to NO (requires P96 3.1.2+)
- Horizontal Panning support in RTG modes
- Ethernet negotiation doesn't block boot anymore
- Native Capture: Fix rare Column Swap Bug
- Native Capture: Optional "Non Standard Sync" modes that are closer to the original refresh rate, enabled by setting ENV:ZZ9000-NS-VSYNC. Needs a tolerant display
- Native Capture: Moved all switching (incl. NTSC/PAL) code to vblank interrupt, fixing some RTG/native switching bugs
- INT6/INT2 Interrupts reworked in ZZ9000Net.device to support interrupt sharing with other cards and ZZ9000AX.
- New Screen Modes: 2560x1440@30Hz, 1600x1200, 720x480
- Fixes compatibility with some displays vs 1.8
- Known Problems:
- 256 MB AutoConfig Memory enabled only after first reset
- Autoboot and AutoConfig Memory features can lead to problems with some special Amiga setups. Use alternative firmware versions to disable these. With Autoboot disabled, you can use zzusb.device from Extras drawer in the installer archive.
- USB storage can be crashy with CS MK1 accelerator

AmigaOS 4: MediaVault 1.4.1 (Update)
MediaVault is an open source application for AmigaOS 4 which can be used to discover online radio stations. An external player like AmigaAmp and the jansson.library v2.12.1 are required. For the first time now Podcasts also are supported. The author George Sokianos wrote:
"I just released the new version of MediaVault 1.4.0, which brings one of my favorite features, and I am talking about the podcasts support.
MediaVault uses PodcastIndex.org to get data for the listed podcasts and episodes. It has more than 4.2 million of podcasts in it's database, making it one of the biggest online sources. I am sure you will find your beloved podcasts in there, as well.
MediaVault is the first native application for AmigaOS 4 that brings podcasts at the tip of your fingers. And I am sure that you will love it as much as I did developing it.
For now, MediaVault returns only 100 podcasts based on your search criteria, and only the latest 100 episodes of the selected podcast, but I am sure, until you listen to all of this content, the next version will be ready, bringing unlimited access.
The new version can be downloaded from the project GitHub page. If you already use the previous version, there is a self-update process, which you can find at the application menu. This can be used to update to the latest available version automatically.
I would like to thank all of my supporters for helping me develop MediaVault, adding new features and making better and better."
Detailed changes:
- You can now search for podcasts based on their title, see info and their avatar and a list of the latest 100 episodes.
- By selecting an episode and clicking the play button the audio is loaded to the player and starts playing.
- Changed the way the avatar images are downloaded, which is now faster and solves a lot of errors with network access, which resulted connection error messages to appear.
Update: (05:01, 11.10.21, dr)
Meanwhile version 1.4.1 is available. You now can choose your favourite player. With regard to playing Podcasts it seems that the 'Emotion' media player developed by Entwickler-X is most suitable. It can be purchased directly from the developer or e.g. in the Alinea Computer Shop for 25 Euro. Detailed changes:
- Added an error message when podcast response is not a successful one
- Added scripts/start_player.sample script. This can be used to set the preferred player. This needs to be renamed as start_player to be used. The reason the file is named like that is to avoid replacements in future updates. The file includes configuration for different supported players, but more can be added.
- Added Trending Podcasts search based on category and/or language
- Added radio station bitrate and codec information in results list and at the right sidebar.
- Changed the about window to add more information.
- Fixed the error of not finding the texteditor.gadget on start

Programming: 'Rust'-Support for Motorola 68000 announced
As Golem reports, the Rust programming language has received experimental support for the Motorola 68000 CPU architecture and processor family for the first time, thanks to a LLVM port. The associated code has been contributed to the main branch of the language's open source repository.
Golem further points out, "Currently, the Rust port to the M68k architecture is still considered experimental and is arguably not complete. In addition, the compiler test suite is not tested by default and the team makes few guarantees that the port will work. For native builds, those involved currently recommend using Debian's M68k port in the documentation, as well as old machines with the CPU such as the Atari or Amiga.
Supported and mainly supervised the work on the LLVM port to the processor architecture, which is now about 40 years old, by a small team of volunteers. The most important goal of the work here is to support the retro computing scene with the work on the compiler. So, together with the Rust port, it will be possible in the future to run other modern software written in Rust on the cherished old computers." (dr)

m68k assembler support: Plugins for JetBrain and Visual Studio IDEs
Recently we reported, that Chris 'platon42' Hodges is developing a (e.g. USB-Stack Poseidon) Plugin for the integrated development environment (IDE) of Jetbrains (e.g. CLion and IntelliJ for Windows, Mac OS and Linux) providing support for m68k assembler. It equips the IDEs with syntax highlighting and code refactoring capability for Motorola's instruction set.
This project also is available on GitHub and meanwhile the plugin is available as version 0.7 providing the following changes:
- Bugfix: 'btst' with pc-relative and weird immediate mode was missing (courtesy of Yann).
- Bugfix: 'movem' with pc-relative mode was missing for weird immediate mode (courtesy of Yann).
- Bugfix: Special registers for address mode matching only worked with lower case register names (courtesy of Yann).
- Enhancement: Assembler syntax with implicit immediate 1 for shifts and rotations no longer cause syntax errors (courtesy of Yann).
- Enhancement: Documentation for instruction with special register shows specific register expected.
- New: Added documentation provider info for global labels. Shows directives and comments above.
- Bugfix: Fixed BNF for labels with preprocessor statements.
- Disabled: 'END' detection was breaking parsing, causing havoc.
- Full changelog available at Github project site.
There is also a second, similar approach of the JetBrains employee Yann Cébron. However, there is no public version yet.
For Microsoft's IDE Visual Studio (among other supporting Visual Basic.NET, C, C++, C++/CLI, C++/CX, C#, F#, SQL Server, TypeScript and Python as well as HTML, JavaScript and CSS), there is also an extension providing support for Amiga's assembler language. (dr)

Controlling Sonos speakers: SonosController 1.1 (OS3/4, MorphOS)
Known for his workbench simulation TAWS, Michael Rupp had released his first Amiga program at the beginning of August, which is used to control Sonos speakers: SonosController (amiga-news.de reported). Now he has released version 1.1 for his program written in the programming language Hollywood, which for the first time is available for AmigaOS 3 in addition to AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS and includes the following changes:
- NEW: first release for AmigaOS 3.x besides 4.1 and MorphOS
- NEW: lots of performance improvements to make it usable on a 68060 cpu, resulting in being blazingly fast on PPC-Amigas.
- NEW: MUI 3.8 compatibility (instead of 5.0)
- NEW: zones (= rooms) are now saved in the config file so when starting the app the next time no network scan is necessary, resulting in a much quicker startup.
- NEW: to save on network traffic and CPU load, loading of the current queue can now be deactivated in the Preferences.
- NEW: network scan can now be cancelled and it's no longer possible to start a second scan while one is already running (this led to speakers being listed multiple times in v1.0).
- NEW: queue lists are now cached in memory and are only reloaded if a change has been reported by the according UPNP event.
- NEW: various zone values are now cached in memory and are no longer reloaded when switching between zones.
- NEW: loading of album art for radio stations
- NEW: timeout for UPNP subscription has been increased from 10 minutes to 1 hour (same as with the original Sonos app).
- NEW: added progress in percent while loading a list in the music source
- NEW: added the possibility to cancel loading a list in the music source
- NEW: "Settings" menu to accomodate the menuitems "Preferences..." and "MUI..."
- NEW: "About MUI..." menuitem to follow the MUI styleguide
- CHANGED: shortcuts for "Next" / "Previous" from Ctrl-LEFT/RIGHT to Alt-LEFT/RIGHT because on an Amiga keyboard the Ctrl key is quite far away from the cursor keys.
- REMOVED: browsing the music library by song: it was useless and took ages, it's much better to use the search instead.
- FIXED: renewal of UPNP subscription as well as unsubscription
- FIXED: TV input is now handled correctly.
- FIXED: improved handling when clicking like mad into the track position slider.
- FIXED: disable play button if action "Play" is not available
- FIXED: lots of minor bugfixes

BASIC compiler: AQB 0.7.2
By his compiler AQB, Günter Bartsch aims to implement a modern, clean, Amiga compatible and future-proof BASIC that is geared to, but no clone of Microsoft's AmigaBASIC and QuickBASIC, respectively.
In version 0.7.2, besides further function calls and bugfixes, an online documentation in AmigaGuide format has been added and the Auto-Format feature fine-tuned. Most formattings and spellings of identifiers are preserved now. Keywords are still recognized and turned into upper case letters, indentations are carried out automatically and folding is also still supported. (snx)

Puzzle game: Crazy Columns 1.03
Jochen Hoffer keeps on working on his port of the Sega classic 'Columns' (Video) and has released version 1.03 (amiga-news.de reported).
In the new version the input in the highscore has been revised. Now the input is not terminated when pressing the fire button or the corresponding keys. Only at the last position of the name, the input is completed. Once you have entered a name in the highscore and confirmed the entry, an Online Key will appear on the screen. This can now be entered in the online highscore.
Furthermore the online highscore can be downloaded now to see the rankings even on the Amiga. This file highscore.dat can be copied on the disk or HD.

Music: C64 & Amiga Game Music Remade as Epic Film Scores
The independent video game developer Prismatic Realms has officially started its Kickstarter website for financing the very special music album 'Epic Action Vol. 1': C64 & Amiga Game Music Remade as Epic Film Scores. The following Amiga games will be used:
- Lost Patrol
- Dune - Ecolove
- HeroQuest
- Nicky Boom
- Shadow of the Beast
- Turrican II - The Desert Rocks
- Lotus Turbo Challenge 2
- Another World
A first impression you can get by listening to five samples via Soundcloud, among others 'Lost Patrol' and 'Dune'.
About the background of the project the initiators wrote:
"Epic Action is our fantasy music album project that focuses on melding two genres together that we believe are a perfect fit: Classic Video Game Music and Epic Hollywood-style Action Film Scores.
Growing up, we were blown away by some of the music that classic computer systems were able to produce. Since you are here, chances are you were too! Rob Hubbard, David Whittaker and the late Ben Daglish (among many others) were prolific composers on the C64 and Amiga scenes. So much so that their game music tracks are still listened to, remixed and remade to this very day.
At the same time, we are a big fan of Hollywood action films. John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Alan Silvestri and many others are responsible for helping turn great movies into experiences that are bigger than life by scoring riveting masterpieces that leave you on the edge of your seat.
The idea behind this album is to deftly combine those two worlds. We've brought together talented and hard-working folks to turn this concept into reality. It is our hope that you find this project as interesting and exciting as we do and we thank you for your support!" (dr)

- Worked around an issue in objc runtime that caused Wayfarer to stall during download notifications. Do note that notifications must be reconfigured in Magic Beacon as some keywords have changed.
- Improved handling of websites that constatly request http auth credentials instead of caching the state

Hollywood: APK Compiler 4.0 released
Press release: Airsoft Softwair, the hardest working men in code business, are proud to announce the immediate availability of Hollywood APK Compiler 4.0. The Hollywood APK Compiler is an add-on for Hollywood that allows you to compile your Hollywood scripts into stand-alone apps for Android, ready to be distributed via the Play Store!
Hollywood APK Compiler 4.0 is a major update which now supports compiling Android App Bundles (AAB) as well. Starting from August 2021, new apps uploaded to the Play Store must use the AAB format which is why the Hollywood APK Compiler supports this format now too. Of course, it's still possible to compile APKs because those are really useful for sideloading or distribution outside the Play Store. Another new feature in Hollywood APK Compiler 4.0 is support for the final version of RapaGUI 2.0. Everything in the final version of RapaGUI 2.0 is now supported by the Hollywood APK Compiler as well!
The update to Hollywood APK Compiler 4.0 is available free of charge for all existing customers and can be downloaded from the restricted download area.

CDTV: New ROM version 2.35 announced (update)
The website CDTV Land is about Commodore's home multimedia entertainment and video game console CDTV which was launched in April 1991. It has now announced the new OS-Version 2.35.
The update will be available for free and "fixes a couple of long standing bugs which have plagued CDTV owners for many years and it throws a couple of small improvements into the mix for good measure". Changes compared to the last known original Commodore ROM release (2.30) from 1992:
- Support for systems with 68030 CPUs
- Support for systems with 32-bit Fast RAM
- Memory card support restored for CDTV players
- CD+G functionality restored for CDTV players
- Buffer overflow bug fixed in bookmark.device
- CD-ROMs will now boot even without CDTV.tm file
- Ability to access the CDTV title screen when a harddisk is installed
- Option to force exit CDTV title screen
- OS build target device ID on CDTV title screen
- No error screen when no disk drive connected to CDTV player
Regarding the availabilty the website wrote: "CDTV OS 2.35 is about to move from alpha to beta testing (by late September 2021). This means the feature set is locked and I will only be fixing bugs that arise during the beta testing phase. Depending on how the beta testing goes, I foresee a release version for the classic CDTV player (CD-1000) before the end of this year. ROM releases for the A570 and A690 CD-ROM drive addons for the A500/A500+ will follow shortly after that."
Update: (16:50, 19.09.21, dr)
In a separate article the developer of the new ROM has written about technical and legal issues. (dr)

Pac-Man port: Pacman 500
As the author Jean-François Fabre wrote, Pacman 500 "is a (successful) attempt by jotd to create a 1:1 port of the famous arcade game on Amiga 500 using 100% 68k assembly. The display is 4:3 so scores, lives, bonuses are on the side rather than on top/botton (YouTube video).
Features:
- original visual & sounds
- original ghost behaviour & speed
- 50 frames per second (PAL) even on a 1MB 68000 A500
- all levels & bonuses & intermission sequences
- original intro
- joystick controlled (port 1)
- can run directly from shell or from whdload (fast machines/complex configurations)
1MB RAM is required (could be reduced to 512k with lower quality sounds). The source code is available on GitHub. (dr)

Individual Computers: Pre-ordering of Indivision ECS V3 started
From today on it is possible to pre-order the Flickerfixer/Scandoubler 'Indivision ECS V3' produced by Individual Computers. Some notes of the developer:
"Indivision ECS V3 will replace Indivision ECS V2. Although very unusual for iComp, I had to make a re-design without actually adding new features. The main reason why a new design was required was the global chip shortage that you've surely heard about in the media. Two rather low-cost chips, and the main FPGA were either wildly expensive, or not available at all. I was lucky enough to find a small quantity of FPGAs on the free market for a moderate premium of "only" 160%, but could not find the right footprint part for the H/V sync driver and the data drivers. Instead of the SC-70 package for the H/V driver, I found a slightly bigger part with the same functionality. Luckily, that part of the board had enough space.
The data drivers were a single 16-bit chip on the V2 design. This became unavailable these past months, so I replaced it with two 8-bit drivers.
Instead of soldering the male-to-male adapter directly to the board, I decided to solder a socket to the circuit board, where the male-to-male adapter will be inserted. Background of this decision is a few service cases where pins of this adapter broke off, and it was very tedious to replace the part. The improved order of parts makes V3 much more servicable, as the adapter can now be exchanged without soldering. I'd expect that most useres can replace the adapter on their own, so shipping the flicker fixer to us for service is becoming less likely to be required.
Another thing that got hard-to-find was the IC that I've been using for the 25MHz oscillator. I wasn't too worried when the distributor told me that the lead time for this part is just over 50 weeks, as we've had complaints from A600 users that the crystal conflicts with the RTC module in some cases. I have therefore decided to buy 25MHz integrated 3.3V oscillators. While this is considerably more expensive, it is only a small contribution to the overall price increase, and has the added benefit of being much smaller than the HC49S-sized crystal of the V2 design.
One thing that is truly different from the V2 design is the output stage. On a component level, it does look almost the same as V2, but went through an expensive CE approval process, and vastly improves picture quality when used on problematic Samsung monitors and similar models that use the same input stage.
The new output stage uses high-frequency transistors as drivers, allowing much sharper edges at higher drive strength, eliminating "ghosting" that was described with certain problematic monitors.
Another thing we have improved is compatibility with motherboards that have a mouse/joystick multiplexer chip from Mitsubishi: While V2 had trouble dealing with the extremely long propagation delay of this chip, the CPLD of the V3 design deals with this problem without the need to adapt to a specific Amiga main board revision. This CPLD code can also be applied on the V2 design, so we now have a solution for existing V2 customers as well."
