Real-time strategy: Vanilla Conquer with 'Mission Pack' support
Artur Jarosik is known for various game ports like the platformer Hydra Castle Labyrinth or the action adventure Heart of Darkness besides his SDL implementation of the browser NetSurf. As a contribution for the AmiGameJam he started to port the first part of the realtime strategy series Command & Conquer to the Amiga and named it "Vanilla Conquer" (amiga-news.de reported).
Today the developer has added support for mission packs and by that 15 new missions and seven new music tracks. The game is intended for Amigas equipped with Apollo/Vampire V4 or PiStorm/Emu-68 expansions.

Game Construction Kit: Scorpion Engine V2022.4
The "Scorpion Engine" developed by Erik 'earok' Hogan allows you to develop games. The engine itself is closed source, all demos and example games are open source. The editor runs under Windows. Graphics are imported as PNG files, levels created by using the editor Tiled eingesetzt. For importing and creating sounds, music and animations the Amiga formats (mod, 8svx, anim5) are used.
A few moments ago he has relesaed version 2022.4 with the following changes:
- New sample: AlarCity title screen
- New sample: Vertical Parallax AGA
- New sample: Render modes and palettes
- Rendermodes for making actors blink, flash etc
- "NoClear" option for effects requiring that BOBs aren't cleared after being blitted
- Vastly improved real time palette manipulation
- "Parallax locked" movement type for creating objects that are tied to the parallax background
- Ability to link sounds to levels (so they're loaded and unloaded with those specific levels)
- Rewrite of the codeblocks virtual machine for improved performance
- Lots of bug fixes and other minor improvements

MorphOS: Web browser Wayfarer 3.8
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek has released version 3.8 of his web browser Wayfarer for MorphOS which, additional to a bug fix, introduces basic drag & drop of web elements of a website.

MorphOS: MouseSpotter 1.0
The #amigazeux team has released the Commodity MouseSpotter, which helps to find the mouse pointer again by simply pressing a hotkey if you have lost sight of it.
MouseSpotter offers a number of options for customisation, such as adjustable colour, duration, different interpolators for the animation and more. (dr)

Farming simulation: Farmiga
The Polish developer 'Tukinem' is writing a farming simulation in AMOS, which he has named 'Farmiga':
Various vegetables and cereals have to be grown, sold at the market and cows or chickens bought with the money earned. The last update on 4 June added a new graphic design, an intro and a selection screen for saving and loading, as well as German and English menu navigation. Music is still missing.
The author has tested his game on an Amiga equippd with Kickstart 3.1.4, 512kB Chip RAM and 2MB Fast RAM. (dr)

Hollywood addon: Remedios 1.2 released
Airsoft Softwair has released version 1.2 of Remedios. Remedios allows Hollywood scripts to be compiled as standalone apps for iOS and iPadOS. Remedios 1.2 is a minor update that now adds support for Hollywood 9.1 and Xcode 13. The update is available now for all customers for free in the protected download area. (dr)

Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.9.10
RedPill, developed by Carlos Peris, is a game construction kit written in Amiblitz 3.9, which allows the development of games from various genres (see short tests of two Redpill games). RedPill is compatible with AGA and ECS, the "player" for playing the finished creations requires a total of 1.5 MB RAM.
The new version 0.9.10 offers besides numerous improvements and fixes now support for AGA fetch modes, which allow the Amiga chips to work in bigger chunks, making graphics operations faster:
- EXPERIMENTAL: Fetch mode can be set in the Screen menu for AGA games: Normal,
Double and Quadruple fetch modes are supported.
- Increased Fetch modes can improve game speed, specially in machines without
fastram.
- With higher fetch modes, funny effects could happen when using sprites or
changing the screen width of the screen.
- Resize of the map dimensions now can automatic replace the tiles to the new
dimensions.
- Multiple WHDload slaves added:

- Action Set NTSC moved to General category.
- In Level Objects screen you can select snap to tile to move objects only in tile exact coordinates.
- In Level screen you can import and export maps in CVS format.
- General optimization.
- When an object is attached to mouse movement now it takes into account the scrolling area.
- Fix in camara not reaching end of the level with reduced screen widths.
- Fix in brush width and height when using the tile shortcuts.

MorphOS: Bounty for improved OpenGL support and new graphics card driver
MorphOS team developer Mark 'Bigfoot' Olsen offers a Bounty project for improved OpenGL support as well as drivers for more Radeon graphics cards under the title link. Support for the R600, R700, Evergreen and Northern Island chips would open up many commonly available PCI Express graphics cards, such as those that would be usable in the Sam460, X5000 and PowerMac G5.
Completion is promised within three months at the latest after full financing. So far, almost one fifth of the required eight thousand euros has been donated. Donations can be made directly by bank transfer or via PayPal in Euros, British Pounds, US and Canadian Dollars. Those who wish to support in another currency can contact Mark Olsen - otherwise please support him by accepting the exchange fees in Euros.

Do it yourself: Amiga 500 Mod PCB project (HDMI, DF0/DF1, low-pass filter)
Jeremy Parker's Amiga 500 Mod PCB project provides, among other things, a Raspberry Pi used as an RGB-to-HDMI converter with an HDMI output on the back of the Amiga 500. A small switch allows access to the menu of the single-board computer.

Bridgeboard program: Viaduct 1.5
Karoly Balogh's Viaduct is a clone of Commodore's PCWindow for displaying PC-side graphics output on Amiga systems with a bridgecard. His replacement was written for faster Amigas equipped with graphics cards. Version 1.5 now supports ToolTypes and is localized, supported so far are Hungarian, German and English. Also the documentation has been transferred to AmigaGuide format.

Amigas in films: Amiga 1000 in fourth season of Stranger Things

Jump'n Run: Second demo version of 'Duckstroma' released
At the beginning of May a first playable demo of the Jump'n Run 'Duckstroma' was released (amiga-news.de reported). Due to the upcoming release of the full version, a second demo version is now available, which provides small improvements.
In 'Duckstroma', as duck Aura you have the order to deliver eight floppy disks to a customer. To fend off all sorts of hostile enemies, you can jump on weak opponents and lay an egg to reach higher places (YouTube video). The game requires 1MB of RAM. (dr)

16 years ago the first version of the http-handler published by Chris Young was released, what amiga-news.de reported about. The day before yesterday the developer released the "jubilee version" 1.11 (Queen Elizabeth II) which now supports AmiSSL 5. His http-handler provides a virtual drive "HTTP:" which can be used to access resources on the Internet. Features of the handler:
- Allows access to web-hosted files via a virtual HTTP: device.
- Also supports secure sites with AmiSSL and a virtual HTTPS: device.
- Basic authentication supported using an addressing scheme like "http://user:pass()www.domain.com"
- Supports Open(), Read(), Close() and Seek().
- Implements HTTP redirects (301,302,307) as soft-links - even works with redirects that point to local files.
- Optionally supports gzip content-encoding for faster download times, if z.library is installed.
- Will work through a proxy server.
- Can connect to HTTP services running on ports other than the default.
4Shortly after the release of the first version, the developer had conducted a survey on WebDAV support. Based on the positive feedback, he started implementing it, which originally resulted in version 2 - which he initially abandoned at the time - and later 3. However, as he tells us, he lost support for the other protocols in these versions, which is why a WebDAV beta version 6 was released, which is available on Open Amiga. (dr)

ReAction GUI for XAD: Avalanche 1.6 for AmigaOS 3 and 4
Chris Young has released version 1.6 of his ReAction-based graphical user interface Avalanche for the unarchiving system XAD, which also supports the xfdmaster.library and can search for viruses using the xvs.library. The developer has written his tool explicitly for AmigaOS 3.2 (but it has also been tested under AmigaOS 4), because it uses a new window.class, so it might not work with older OS3 versions. Changes
- Add ability to extract disk archives to images
- Add ability to extract files from disk images/archives
- Double-clicking now extracts the clicked file to a temporary location and opens it. NB: This has required the previous "single click to select/deselect" to be disabled, as the functionality was incompatible.

Retro gaming: WHDLoad 18.8
Using WHDLoad, you can install games, scene demos and intros from cracking groups to your harddisk that were only working from floppy disks previously. Version 18.8 provides the following changes:
- fix: new created files in sub directories which are cached are now correctly reported via Examine (issue #5536)
- fix: when new created cached files are deleted WHDLoad no longer tries to delete them on disk
- chg: the memory of detected freezers is now cachable if MMU is used
- new: the gadgets in the splash window can be controlled via keyboard and joystick now, up/down selects the gadgets via mouse move and left/right switches the gadgets

MorphOS: Web browser Wayfarer 3.7
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek has released version 3.7 of his Wayfarer web browser for MorphOS. This version focuses almost exclusively on media playback in various modes. Many web pages and streams should work much better with version 3.7 and watching streams should be possible for a long time without running out of RAM.
Changes:
- Rewritten MediaSource player state machines to improve seeking, end-of-stream handling
- Fixed a bug that caused a/v decoders to keep increasing the read-ahead decoded frame buffers infinitely (causing out-of-memory sooner or later during playback)
- Fixed a memory leak in a/v de-multiplexer
- Refactored the HLS player to enable seeking in terminated playlists
- Reduced the memory footprint of MediaSource playback

Competition: 'Amiga Blitz Basic Game Jam' started
Today indie game developer Dan 'zooperdan' Thoresen (Wheel of Fortune implementation 'YAWoFFA') started the Amiga Blitz Basic Game Jam: until September 1st 2022 Amiga developers are invited to write and submit games in AmiBlitz or Blitz Basic (amiga-news.de reported).
The idea behind this contest is to increase the number of programmers and the knowledge around the Amiga and the use of Blitz Basic and AmiBlitz to create games. This means that all games submitted must include the source code so that beginners have examples to study and learn from.
Only games for 68k Amigas with AmigaOS are admitted, MorphOS, AmigaOS 4 and AROS are excluded. Likewise, submissions requiring Vampire cards, graphics cards or other special hardware will not be accepted. The game of the winner determined by a jury will be published on CD by Bitmap Soft. Unfinished Jump'n Run: Funky Monkey

Email client: YAM support for AmiSSL 5 in progress
About a month ago we reported that the development of the Amiga email client YAM was discontinued by the previous developer team. Since YAM is an open source project, however, there is the possibility for every interested developer to create an own fork and thus continue the work. According to this Twitter post from yesterday, the IBrowse and AmiSSL5 developer Oliver Roberts has now taken first steps to implement support for AmiSSL 5 (amiga-news.de reported) in YAM. (dr)

AmiTube: Preview video of 'Fancy List'
In today's blog entry, author Marcus 'ALB42' Sackrow gives a small preview of a feature of the upcoming version: the 'Fancy List'. Version bumper: RevFlex 1.0 for AmigaOS 3/4 and MorphOS

Background: MorphOS running on a Mac Mini G4 (Czech)
Martina Hřebcová is well-known for her detailed reviews and analyses of Amiga hardware, for example about Graphic cards for Sam440ep-flex, the Pegasos I or the PPC architecture evolution in Amiga world. Recently she got a Mac Mini G4 from a colleague and so in her latest article she reports how she made this Mac usable for MorphOS again which was provided without harddisk, WiFi and Bluetooth and makes several comparisons with a Pegasos II. Finally she reports that with the help of the never finished Moana project AmigaOS 4 can also be started (machine translation). (dr)

Accelerator board project: 'Buffee' supports Big Endian
In her latest blog entry Renee Cousins, one of the two developers of the accelerator board 'Buffee' (amiga-news.de reported) takes up the topic of Endianness and refutes the thesis that the AM335x processor installed on the Buffee did not support Big Endian.
As Renee wrote, "big endian is working. It works for DRAM. It works with the GPMC. The only exception is that the registers need byte swapping if you’re reading/writing in 16- or 32-bit because those remain in little-endian mode. And of course, there’s the matter of making a GCC big-endian C standard library and IO programming, but knowing that this actually works means proceeding."
For testers with an Alpha or Beta board, this means that there will be a 'Buffee Swapper' that will swap the external data bus bytes. This board will be a small shim that sits between Buffee and the motherboard, allowing Buffee to run in proper big-endian mode. The swapper will be shipped free of charge to any alpha and beta tester. Future Buffee boards will not need this shim. (dr)

Puzzle game: Demo version of 'Spheroid' released
About a month ago we were already allowed to test the puzzle game 'Spheroid' written by Andrew Vaisey in Blitz Basic, where you move a metal ball through a maze of tiles to reach the exit within the given time and the maximum allowed number of moves. Different tiles have different properties and affect the ball in different ways (amiga-news.de reported).
After a demo version was already available to the readers of Amiga Addict magazine for a few days, the developer has now released a ten-level demo version for everyone.

MorphOS: Screenbar-Plugin TopTasks 1.6
TopTasks.sbar is a Screenbar-Plugin for MorphOS that shows the task that is currently eating the most CPU time in the screen title.
When the titlebar object is clicked it opens a window displaying the top tasks (from 5 to 25) currently hogging all your precious CPU time. Furthermore it can display a history of the top tasks of the last configureable number of seconds/minutes/hours. Changes:
- The top tasks window opens now exactly below the screen title bar instead of using its own bottom border for position.
- Text displayed in the screen title can now be rendered off-center vertically by specifiying a pixel offset.
- Number of Top Tasks shown can be configured from 5, 10, 15, 20 to 25 tasks now. Previously it was fixed to 10 tasks.
- Now displays the rank of the tasks in the first column.
- Top Tasks and History Tasks CPU loads can now also be colour coded ranging from green over yellow to red (see settings).
- Comes with a real Installer script courtesy of InstallerGen by Rob Cranley now.
- Now also shows the respective task priorities in history list.
- Global task info group in the TopTask window can now be hidden (see settings).
- The TopTask window can now be made dragable (see settings).
- Width calculation has been updated to be a bit closer to the configured number of characters in settings.
- Number of entries held in History list can now be adjusted from 60 seconds up to 24 hours where 1 entry equals 1 second.
Once an entry was selected in history list it was not possible to deselect it making the list always keep the entry in the visible area scrolling the added top entries out. To deselect the entry now double click any entry in the list.

Arcade game 'Jump!': Demo version 1.10 available
At the end of last year we had the opportunity to (test) the alpha version of 'Jump!', a conversion of the game Yoomph, originally written for the Atari. The Polish developer Markus Duda now has released a second demo version (amiga-news.de reported) which has lower chip memory usage and provides some minor bugs fixes.
An Amiga 1200 with 14MHz and 4MB FastRAM is required. The demo version offers three playable levels.
The game can be pre-ordered at the title link as a digital variant for 29 Euros or as a 'boxed version' for 45 Euros plus shipping (depending on the destination).

Linux: Kernel 5.18 for AmigaOne X1000/X5000
Right after the release of the final Linux kernel 5.18, Christian 'xeno74' Zigotzky has compiled the kernel for the AmigaOne X1000 and X5000 and offered it for download in the corresponding thread of the Hyperion forum.
Additionally, he has compiled version 3.6.2 of the Commodore emulator VICE for the Linux distribution Void PPC, which is also available for the AmigaOne X1000 and 5000 (amiga-news.de reported). (dr)

Replacement keyboards for A500/A1200: Update on Kipper2k project
After an abundant year, the American dealer 'Amiga On The Lake' has published new information about the status of the Kipper2k replacement keyboards for the Amiga 500 and 2000 (amiga-news.de reported):
All pre-orders would be expected to be fulfilled by the end of June 2022, or mid-July 2022 at the latest. Staffing shortages and delays in receiving components would have further worsened the already tight schedule.
After the pre-orders were all processed, they would get to work building keyboards for stock and selling them as soon as they were available.
All customers would have received an email asking for confirmation of address information. If any pre-orderer has not received this, they should email Jeff with their full name, order number (if available) and shipping address. (dr)

Amiga emulator: Amiberry 5.2
Amiberry is an Amiga emulator for ARM-based single-chip systems like the Raspberry Pi, the Odroid XU4 or the Tinkerboard from ASUS, which brings some newly developed features like a "WHDLoad-Booter" or support for controller configuration using RetroArch.
Two days ago version 5.2 was released providing the following changes:
New Features:
- Added new CD32 config with 8MB Fast, use that with --autoload option
- Enable RTC automatically if enabled expansions have RTC
- Support for Cycle-Exact mode from XML options
- Ability to set default soundcard
Bugs fixed:
- Hotkey mappings didn't work with controller buttons
- Only check for hotkey buttons if they have been mapped
- When using Auto-crop and virtual mouse driver, the pointer would not reach the edges of the screen
- Launch Amiberry binary directly in macOS app bundle
Improvements:
- Updated bundled AROS ROMs to latest version

Shoot'em Up: SkillGrid 1.3
About three years ago, Simone 'saimo' Bevilacqua (e.g. BOH, Huenison) released his abstract vertical shoot'em up 'SkillGrid' (amiga-news.de reported).
Additional to several improvements, version 1.3 offers a new weapon (YouTube video) and for AmigaCD32 users the possibility to load and save highscores from/in NVRAM. However, since no testers were available, this feature is to be regarded as experimental. He refers to the readme.txt on the CD. (dr)

Internet: IBrowse 2.5.6 / AmiSSL v5.1 released
Oliver Roberts not only continues to develop his web browser 'IBrowse' for AmigaOS 3, MorphOS and AmigaOS 4, but from now on also maintains the encryption protocol AmiSSL, which now supports OpenSSL 3.0 and now also has its own homepage. Please read the press release:
IBrowse 2.5.6 is now available for download (OS4 users may use AmiUpdate instead), which is the sixth free update for registered owners of IBrowse 2.5. IBrowse 2.1-2.4 and 1.x owners may upgrade to IBrowse 2.5.6 via our store at discounted rates. Please note: IBrowse 2.5.6 requires AmiSSL v5, also released today, so you are advised to download it before updating IBrowse, otherwise you will be left without HTTPS access.
Whilst this releases fixes quite a few different issues, it brings the following improvements too:
- Adapted to fully use OpenSSL 3.0, via AmiSSL v5
- HTTP Brotli compression support
- OpenSearch autodiscovery support
- Gemini client, allowing loading of gemini: URLs
- Improved Gopher support
- JavaScript fixes and improvements
- Google/Gmail account login fixed (became blocked in March)
Changes of AmiSSL 5.1:
- Switched to OpenSSL 3.0 and updated backend to full compatibility with the latest OpenSSL 3.0.3 (3.5.2022) version, which brings new features, such as a built-in HTTP(S) client, along with security and bug fixes.
- Updated root certificates to latest Mozilla-based bundle provided by https://curl.se/docs/caextract.html dated 26.4.2022.
- Split AmiSSL release archive into smaller OS specific and SDK archives.
- OpenSSL tool now has a proper $VER string, with the version number matching the AmiSSL release version number.
- Fixed OpenSSL UI function m68k/ppc crosscalls, reinstating code from AmiSSL v3, that was unfortunately removed in AmiSSL v4.
- Added new streamlined OpenAmiSSLTags/TagList() function to amisslmaster.library which simplifies the opening of AmiSSL.
- Added simple httpget example code which shows how applications can use the new built-in HTTP(S) client.
- Added full autodocs for all the Amiga specific interface functions.
- Improved and structured the developer README-SDK file.
- Added OpenSSL stub link libraries for OS3 (GCC) and OS4 (GCC & VBCC).
- AmiSSL and OpenSSL switched to the Apache License, Version 2.0.
- We have a new homepage at https://amissl.org which provides links to all AmiSSL resources, old and new.

Custom chips: Replacement project of Buffee developers
As Renee Cousins, one of the developers of the turbo card project 'Buffee' (amiga-news.de reported), explained a few days ago, she has turned back to her original Amiga project dedicated to hard-to-find custom chips and their replacements. The first one is Gary and will be called 'Gary Zander'.
At the moment this board is 100% reliably tested on an Amiga 500 and only needs a bit more time during reboot. The lack of tri-state and open-drain pins on the Xilinx chip would be the reason not to release it now. The board would be produced and tested with these supplemented pins soon.
Following this, the replacement for the Agnus will be tackled, called 'Willoe'. Currently, 3D models of the board are being printed to ensure they fit into the PLCC socket. The rough functional scope of Willoe:
- 100 pin TQFP Lattice MachXO2 core (XO2-2000)
- Near instant-on (CPLD-like) functionality
- 16MB of 133MHz, 8-bit pSRAM for AGA+ bandwidth
- 1MB, 2MB Agnus and 2MB Alice compatibility
- Jumpered NTSC/PAL default modes (will also obey pin and software changes)
- Automatic 8372 and 8375 pin detection (universal socket compatibility)
- Many optional features to come

Amiga emulator for MacOS: vAmiga 2.01
After several beta versions the developer Dirk Hoffmann had released the final version 2.0 of his Amiga emulator vAmiga for MacOS ten days ago (amiga-news.de reported). Version 2.01 was made available yesterday fixing two crash causes (DMA debugger, drive export menu).
The minimum system requirement is macOS 10.15.

Workbench distribution: AmiKit XE 11.7.0 for Windows/Mac/Linux
An update to version 11.7.0 has been released for the workbench distribution AmiKit, which is intended for emulators. In addition to an emulator, AmigaOS 3.x and the Kickstart ROMs are required.

Development environment: Update on 'Grimoire' project
About a month ago we reported about Frédéric 'AmiDARK' Cordier's new project of a software development solution for Amiga computers: Grimoire. In two recent blog entries he reports about the progress on the project:
With the first entry he opens his developer diary and lists all changes he has made to the project starting in January 2020 until today. The second entry reports specifically on his progress with 'screens':
- 'getBestScreenMode' can be returned for Planar and Saga Chunky modi.
- 'OpenScreen' can open bitplanes screens (up to 256 colors).
- working on ’primitive’ copper list support for full screen view with 1 screen. This will later be replaced by a more complex system that can handle more than one screen in view and grid effects.

Accelerator board project: Buffee partly Open Source again
At the end of March we reported that the turbo card project 'Buffee', originally started as Open Source under a non-commercial Creative Commons license, is fully Closed Source. In a new blog entry from yesterday, the developers now announce that the source code for PJIT has been reopened and the private repository has been merged and closed. From now on there is only one repository for PJIT.
Closed Source on the other hand remains the firmware, which contains the boot loader, the PRU programs and the CPLD image, and the hardware design files. (dr)

Kickstarter campaign: 'Tank Mouse' update
The Polish designer Lukas Remis had successfully finished a Kickstarter campaign for the re-release of the wireless Commodore Maus 1352 (amiga-news.de reported).
In a short status update, the developer writes that he is in the process of updating the mouse firmware and finding the best solution for the USB-DB9 adapter regarding the chip shortage. Next up, he says, is the production of the injection molds. In the recent poll on which color shade to use, most votes fell on RAL 9002, which was also used for the campaign photos. However, the developer is looking into the possibility of using a second color shade: RAL 1013 (overview of RAL color shades). (dr)

Real-time strategy: Vanilla Conquer V1.0 released
Artur Jarosik is known for various game ports like the platformer Hydra Castle Labyrinth or the action adventure Heart of Darkness besides his SDL implementation of the browser NetSurf. As a contribution for the AmiGameJam he started to port the first part of the realtime strategy series Command & Conquer to the Amiga and named it "Vanilla Conquer" (amiga-news.de reported).
According to his developer log, today he has released version 1.0 providing the following changes:
- Fixed radar map display
- Fixed few enforcer hits
- Fixed Ion Cannon recharge time (was 0)
- Added ability to show FPS under F5
- Added ability to enable/disable framelimiter under F4
- Replaced Riva with FroggerNG
- Changed riva.txt to player.ini
- Added an alternate icon by P.Cotter
The game is intended for Amigas equipped with Apollo/Vampire V4 or PiStorm/Emu-68 expansions.

Aracade game: 'Green Beret' May update
Green Beret is a conversion of Konami's arcade classic of the same name to the Amiga, written using the Scorpion Engine and won third place at AmiGameJam.
In the May update, the "timeout jet" was also added to the Amiga port, which now no longer allows the player to delay the gameplay for longer, e.g. when stopping on the first truck in level 1. Also, blue soldiers now only fire one shot, making the game's difficulty more manageable. Finally, some pixel artifacts in the background of the title screen have been cleaned up. Besides an ADF file, a special WHDLoad version for the 'THEA500 Mini' is also available. (dr)

ACube Systems: Fifteen years of Sam440ep
Press release: Dear customers,
It was the year 2007 when we introduced our first “baby”, the Sam440ep. Fifteen years ago. We designed and produced the Sam440ep, a lovely mini-itx motherboard that many enjoyed running AmigaOS 4, AROS and Linux.
At that time, we, a bunch of mad amigans, resolved to do our best to bring this hardware to life for all the Amiga Community because it was in dire need of a new computer platform to run AmigaOS.
Without the Sam440ep, the future of AmigaOS would have been very difficult.
After all these years, just as the latest batch of Sam460ex LE is being produced, we choose to release the electrical schematics of the Sam440ep (PDF file) to the community.
We hope many of you will be happy to see one of the first image of our first project. (dr)

Amiga 500 HDD LED Adapter
Matthias 'DJBase' Münch has designed a simple HDD-LED adapter for the Amiga 500, which visually displays the activity of a hard disk on accesses (e.g. on a Warp 560, Vampire 500 and many other expansion cards) via the original LED board (DISK LED). Preview video: Kung Fu action 'Devil's Temple'
Devil's Temple features 10 stages of intense arcade kung fu action based on the classic Irem games Kung Fu Master and Vigilante. Over 300 frames of animation were packed into the game and every cycle of performance was used on the Amiga A500. The game will adapt to upgrades, so additional chip ram will result in better music, AGA will provide additional colors and a greater variety of enemies in the game.
Yesterday, a new preview video was released for the game in development, showing levels one through six. However, the developer points out that there are still "many annoying bugs to be fixed." The game is already available for pre-order as a boxed edition. Likewise, a demo version of the first stage is available on itch.io.

Emulator: vAmigaWeb v2.0
vAmigaWeb is an Amiga emulator for the web browser or a Progressive Web App (PWA) based on the Amiga emulator for MacOS vAmiga. After the release of its final version 2.0, the developer 'mithrendal' has incorporated the current vAmigaCore2.0 into his application. He has also fixed user-reported problems in this version. THEA500 Mini: Firmware 1.1.1 released (update)
Retro Games Ltd. has released new firmware 1.1.0 for 'THEA500 Mini', its replica of an Amiga 500, which among other things now supports adf files. The changes:
- Adds ADF (floppy) file support
- Adds Playlist support
- Adds Hot-Crop
- Adds Keyboard control of the user interface
- Allows the Virtual Keyboard to be accessed at all times
- Allows controllers to be physically swapped during play
- Swaps THEJoystick (THEC64 Joystick) fire buttons
- Fixes the Virtual Keyboard Cursor-Right button

Soundbar: Sonos Ray
After we had reported about 'SonosController', the Hollywood program written by Michael Rupp for controlling Sonos speakers, one or the other finger of our readers was possibly already on the order button of such a product, but aborted the process abruptly because of the proud price: so a Sonos Beam costs 499 Euros, a Sonos Arc even 999 Euros.
According to the German t3n Magazine, the Sonos Ray is now available at a lower price of 299 Euros. Instead of Dolby Atmos and HDMI, the soundbar offers Dolby Digital 5.1 and an optical connection in contrast to the higher-priced alternatives.
When asked, Michael Rupp confirmed to us that his SonosController software should work with all Sonos products (and compatible ones) without any problems and without the need for adjustments. (dr)

Workbench distribution: AmiKit XE 11.8.0 for Raspberry Pi 4/400
The update to version 11.8.0 (changelog) of the workbench distribution AmiKit XE for the Raspberry Pi 4/400 single board computer contains updated Amiga programs as well as the recently released version 5.1 (amiga-news.de reported) of the emulator AmiBerry which AmiKit is based on. Web emulator: vAmiga Online 0.9
At the end of November we reported about Christian Corti's web conversion of the Mac emulator vAmiga. He has now updated his project called 'vAmiga Online' to the latest version of the Mac emulator and furthermore preconfigured some demos and games which can be selected via the 'Rocket' button (second picture). According to our small test, the web emulator currently works fine with an original 1.3 ROM as well as 3.1 ROM (A600) provided by AmigaForever. Attempts with the AROS replacement ROMs or 3.1 ROMs od A1200 failed under Windows and using Firefox or Edge.

Arcade game 'Jump!': demo version available
At the end of last year we had the opportunity to (test) the alpha version of 'Jump!', a conversion of the game Yoomph, originally written for the Atari. The Polish developer Markus Duda now has released a demo version of his arcade game, so that everyone can get an impression for themselves. You need an Amiga 1200 with 14MHz and 4MB Fast RAM. The demo version offers three levels.
The game can be pre-ordered at the title link as a digital variant for 29 Euros or as a 'Boxed Version' for 45 Euros plus shipping (depending on the destination).

Animations tool: VectorAnim Player
The group 'ELECTRIC BLACK SHEEP', known among other things for the fantasy shooter Project Quest, which is currently in development, released a few days ago a simple animation playback and creation program, VectorAnim Player.
As one of the developers writes, he had been playing with the idea of creating animations as simple and small as possible on the Amiga for a long time. As a result this player was born. Compared to other similar players it uses vector data for the display as shown for example in The Black Lotus demo.

Porting Amiga applications to Linux: AxRuntime 41.3
Krzysztof 'deadwood' Śmiechowicz's "AxRuntime" is a runtime environment for Linux which emulates the AmigaOS-API and therefore enables porting Amiga applications on Linux and developing applications which can be compiled for AmigaOS/MorphOS/AROS as well as Linux (amiga-news.de berichtete). Examples videos show the AROS desktop Wanderer (MP4) and gmPlayer (MP4) under Linux.
One user reported that he got AxRuntime to work also under Windows 10/11, whereupon the developer made some more adjustments and finally released version 41.3. The use under Windows succeeds with the use of the 'Windows Subsystem für Linux' (WSL). This feature enables the execution of Linux GUI applications:
- Launch Linux apps from the Windows Start menu
- Pin Linux apps to the Windows task bar
- Use alt-tab to switch between Linux and Windows apps
- Cut + Paste across Windows and Linux apps
Since AxRuntime binaries are Linux binaries, they can also use this feature to give impression of running nativelly under Windows.

m68k assembly: 'Amiga Assembly' plugin v1.4.0 for Visual Studio Code
We just reported about an updated 'C/C++' extension for Visual Studio Code and also referred to an extension to support assembler for the Amiga Motorola 68000 machines and emulators. This extension, called 'Amiga Assembly' by Paul Raingeard, has been intensively developed recently, made the leap from pre-release versions to version 1.0 at the end of last year and was updated to the current version 1.4.0 yesterday (changelog).

Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.9.9
RedPill, developed by Carlos Peris, is a game construction kit written in Amiblitz 3.9, which allows the development of games from various genres (see short tests of two Redpill games). RedPill is compatible with AGA and ECS, the "player" for playing the finished creations requires a total of 1.5 MB RAM.
The new version 0.9.9 offers several improvements and bug fixes:
- Loading animation is now displayed during game loadings.
- F5-F10 Keys can be used as a shortcut for Play, Spritesheets, Animations, Objects, Tiles and Levels screens.
- Animation screen now shows animation frame shortcuts.
- Sounds are now also packed using Imploder.
- Editor now checks the project version before loading it, prompting for confirmation.
- In Game setup screen the game name and author can be setup, they will be displayed when loading the WHDLoad.
- When building the project all images are processed for safety and maybe even speed increase.
- New condition trigger to check if the game is running in an AGA machine.
- New trigger Instantiate Attached allows to Instantiate an object already attached to the creator.
- New triggers Custom to Var to set up global variables with Object custom variables.
- Additional checks for tileset loading.
- In Animation screen the name of the mirrored animation is now displayed.
- Improved UI in level editor screen.
- Improved UI in triggers screen.
- Projects updated, some improvements in Astro and Gravity games.
- Fixed memory corruption problems in certain situations.
- Fix in tileset shortcuts.
- Fix in Mutate trigger.
- Fix in Input screen.
- Fixes in palette handling.

Programming language: Amiga C/C++ Visual Studio Code Extension (update)
Bartman', member of the demo group 'Abyss', provides with 'amiga-debug' a 'Visual Studio Code' extension for "compiling, debugging and profiling Amiga C/C++ programs compiled by the bundled gcc 11.2 with the bundled WinUAE" (YouTube video). Yesterday he released the new version 1.3.3 with the following changes:
- fix some 68k cycle timings
- support breakpoints in .s files
- Assembly: show theoretical 68000 cycles as decoration
- Assembly: fix F12 on local labels
- Assembly: Autocomplete for opcodes, labels
- Disassembly: Hover over CPU instructions to view documentation
- Disassembly: fix loop cycle display in some cases
Various plugins for assembler programming support are also available for Visual Studio IDEs and JetBrain (amiga-news.de reported).

Amiga compatible joypad 'Protopad': Status update
Protovision, after successful crowd funding, is in the process of building new 'next-generation' joypads specifically designed for the C64, but equally compatible with Amiga: the Protopad.
Now there was a status update regarding this, which we quote here:
- "We have found a case that we could use. We are still exploring the idea of creating a custom case. Making your own case is tricky and very expensive, so we will see if that works out. If not, we will revert to the standard case we found worthy.
- We have come across unexpected technical issues. The pad sometimes gives wrong readings and it appears to happen when a button is pressed only lightly. This is extremely weird and we never heard of a similar issue ever. We believe it is some kind of power fluctuation problem and have created a new prototype that will make it easier for us to track the issue.
- We are shocked about price developments. A CPLD chip that used to cost 6 Euros now costs 40. We did not see that coming and it crushes our financial calculations. We might have to redesign to use different chips than initially planned.
- We are positive we will be able to master all these issues, eventually, but it takes way longer than we expected. Since Covid, not only prices have gone up but turnaround times are much slower. Example: receiving new Prototypes previously was a matter of days or weeks, now we have to wait months before we receive a new board."

Sensible World of Soccer: SWOS Total Pack 1.1
The 'SWOS Total Pack' is a graphical user interface written by 'Cool_amigaN' and 'jPV^RNO' for launching the game Sensible World of Soccer in an emulated environment.
As jPV^RNO explains, it includes almost all variations of the game and data about the game that have been officially and unofficially released over the last 30 years. Any combination of this data can be selected through the graphical user interface, from graphics and sound sets from different game versions and platforms to team/player data from different years.
There are countless data disks from the years 1930 to 2022, which are the result of the work of the SWOS community. Tournament lineups can be viewed as well as other documentation. Game tactics can be changed from the original versions and there is an extensive tactics viewer to analyze the new updated tactics/formations. The package also includes special versions of the game, from magazine cover disk releases to versions from other platforms (SNES, GameBoy, Game Gear, Master System).
The package also includes intro animations, music remixes, cracktros for launching the game. The first version was released in the middle of last year. Now an update to version 1.1 has been released, which can be installed either from the application itself or via Grunch. (dr)

After the release of A-Copy, a program similar to X-Copy for reading and writing ADF disk images under Windows using the ADF drive hardware, Arne Urbaniak now is in the process of writing 'G-Copy', a corresponding application for the Greaseweazle (amiga-news.de reported).
In the now available version 0.3 456 boot block viruses are now also detected and removed if you want. Minor bugs have been removed, the handling of windows in the code has been improved and Bamcopy has been fixed. In addition, the floppy selection (device) is now saved on exit.
In addition, the author has revised his website, which now lists his two programs, A-Copy and G-Copy, and provides a small documentation in English and German.

Event: Passione Amiga Day 2022 in Spoleto (Italy)

Jump'n Run: Demo of 'Duckstroma' released
At the end of 2020, the first preview video of the jump'n run 'Duckstroma' in development was released (amiga-news.de reported). Now a first playable demo has been released: As duck Aura you have the mission to deliver eight floppy disks to a customer. To fend off all kinds of hostile enemies, you can jump on weak opponents and lay an egg to reach higher places (recent YouTube video). The game requires 1MB of RAM and should be finished soon. (dr)

Mutation Software: First teaser for CyberPunks 2
Already at the end of last year Mutation Software announced the second part of their top-down shooter Cyberpunks (amiga-news.de reported). There is now a first teaser video for the game, which was originally supposed to be released in the third quarter of 2021, but is now announced for the fourth quarter of 2023. (dr)
