The OOP4A-Project joins forces with PowerD and WizardClasses
"The OOP4A-Project joins forces with PowerD and WizardClasses"
"Stefan Robl, author of OS 3.9's AmiDock, has agreed to support the OOP4A project by providing his class system 'WizardClasses' which is extensively used in all of his programs. The class system also contains - among many other classes - a GUI class system. We hope to release a first package sometime in Q1, 2002 - this will enable programs using OOP4A to use GUI in a truly object oriented way as well.
Martin Kuchinka, author of the PowerD programming language, agreed too to support the OOP4A-Project within PowerD. more ... (ps) (Translation: rh)

Amiga board elects Frank Wilde as Chairman of the Board (update)
Update:
Carsten Schröder of Amiga Aktuell explains in a special the following terms:
"First of all for clarification: in American companies the "chairman" is the head of the "Board of Directors", some sort of administrative council which is elected by the company shareholders and decides on the basic company politics as well as announcing the "Executive Officers" who are responsible for daily business. Thus the chairman has - at least formally - a higher influence as for example the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of a company." more ... (ps) (Translation: rh)

SuSE Linux 7.3 for PowerPC available
After a long waiting it is time again. SuSE Linux 7.3 for PowerPC is now available at SuSE GmbH and at the retailers. 8 CDs contain more than 2000 software packages. To mention only a small selection of new software here are some examples:

KOffice, OpenOffice, Ogg/Vorbis (DivX), KDE 2.2.1, Gnome 1.4.1
But the distribution's highlight should be the availability of the filesystems Ext3, JFS and ReiserFS (all journaling filesystems).

As in the past I'll create an installation guide for Amiga systems. In any case I'll let you know when these are available on the net. (ps) (Translation: wk)

SimpleMail V0.12
SimpleMail V0.12 released. Due to an exploit in MUI in combination with some PIPE-handlers we have released a new version now, everybody actually should update, as the old version has a really nasty security problem. The changes are:
  • Fix for the MUI exploit.
  • Messages can be also encrypted with PGP 2.6.x.
  • Switching away of columns in the message list is possible now. (save it via "Save Prefs")
  • Completation of email-addresses improved.
  • A small menu added to the readwindow that makes it possible to see the raw mail.
  • Mousewheel support of the readwindow is more tolerant now.
  • The attachments are better identified if you have OS3.9 and DefIcons. You can double-click on an icon to start an action (needs also OS3.9 and DefIcons, e.g. double-click on an archive will start UnArc in the default config of DefIcons).
  • Printing of messages and text-attachments is possible now.

PlanetLAN: background information about the Danish Connect12
»The Danish LAN party Connect #12 with 300 participiants in Esbjerg was closed by the Police on 20. October because of illegal data transfers. "AntiPiratGruppen" (APG), a private AntiPiracy organisation, has used undercover investigators who had created logs of the data transfers at the LAN party. Afterwards they ordered the police and the event got closed.
Many of the participiants are now accused to have exchanged illegal data. Furthermore is the organisator of the LAN party, the CompuClub, accused to have made the infra structure (the network) for the illegal data exchange available. The Danish Orgas have already agreement with the APG to pay 100.000 dkr (=25.000 DM) compensation.«
